Abstract

Türkiye Burslar? is a scholarship program for international students, but who would have thought that the existence of this scholarship was in line with Turkey's public diplomacy mission and thus became the country's soft power? The methodology used in this research is qualitative with references in the form of books, reports, and relevant journal articles according to the topic of Türkiye Burslar?'s role as Turkey's soft power and its relationship with Indonesia.

The Rise and fall of the Australian Agricultural Visa: An Analysis of Labor Migration Policies in the Context of Regional Geopolitics Saputra, Allan Dharma

Abstract

This article examines how domestic political dynamics and regional geopolitical considerations influenced the rise and fall of Australia's short-lived Agricultural Visa (AAV) program aimed at recruiting workers from ASEAN countries. Employing a qualitative case study approach and drawing on neoliberal economic theory, securitization theory, and complex interdependence theory, the analysis reveals key tensions. The AAV's genesis reflected neoliberal narratives of filling labor shortages, but its demise exemplified concerns over worker exploitation and adverse impacts on local labor standards. The visa also became entangled in Australia's strategic rivalry with China in the Pacific, with labor migration becoming a securitized issue. Crucially, the case exposes challenges of policy coherence, as actions in the security domain strained Australia's ASEAN relationships. The findings underscore the need for holistic approaches balancing economic needs, worker rights, regional diplomacy, and evolving security dynamics when crafting labor migration policies amidst complex global interdependencies. The AAV's failure serves as a cautionary tale about piecemeal, politically expedient migration strategies disconnected from on-the-ground realities.

Abstract

The key to successful education as a process or learning activity lies in the teacher's competencies to build effective communication with students in their learning process. This study uses a case study method at Wardaya College and measures the effectiveness of interpersonal communication in the learning system based on various indicators (openness, empathy, supportiveness, positiveness and equality). The sample consisted of 5 teachers out of 26 teachers and 11 students out of 85 students. The results of the study show a gap between the opinions of teachers and students. Teachers believe they have engaged in interpersonal communication, provided methods that are easy for students to understand, demonstrated empathy, consistently offered motivational support, maintained a positive attitude, and positioned students themselves as equals during teaching and learning activities. However, this is not consistent with the opinions of some students. Some students stated that it was not easy to understand the communication from some teachers, not all teachers showed openness in interactions, empathy, or presented content in ways that captured students' attention, nor did they give recognition or appreciation for students' efforts, and displayed a positive attitude and equality. This gap indicates areas for improvement within the institution.
