Abstract

This study aims to determine the students' perception of using worksheet in English Online Learning at the Ninth Grade Junior High School Number 2 Jambi City. This research methodology in this study is qualitative research design whose analysis setting of the research requires in-depth observation. The subjects of this study were students of class ninth grade junior high school number 2 Jambi city, was used Purposive sampling totaling six students as participants consisting of two students from low scores, two students from minimum scores, and two students from high scores and two students with high grades, and active students who get ranks from one to six. In collecting data this research gave interviews in class. The results showed that class IX students of SMPN 2 Jambi City this researchs found some difficulties in capturing meaning in the learning process using online worksheets but can help children's success in the process of learning English online. Worksheet can be    helps teachers and students in online learning so that students can use worksheet correctly and easily in implementing the application of worksheet in online learning.

Abstract

This research was done aimed at investigating the effect of using RCRR reading strategy towards the students’ reading comprehension at the seventh grade of SMPN 2 Jambi City in academic year 2019/2020. This research carried out in a quantitative method and quasi-experimental design. The sampling technique used in this research was simple random technique. The population of this research was the seventh grades students. The sample was two classes which divided into two group assigned as experimental (VII C) and control class (VII D). The experimental class was taught using the RCRR strategy as a treatment, while the control class was not. To collect the data, the researcher conducted pre-test and post-test of both classes. The researcher used t-test to know the effect of RCRR strategy.After conducting the pre-test, and post-test to both classes and giving the treatment to the experimental class, the researcher analysed the data. The mean score of pre-test session in control class was 55,46 while the mean of experimental class was 56,09. This score was increased in the post-test, the mean score of control class was 69,37 while the mean score of experimental class was 76,25. Based on the calculation, the value of t-test observation was higher compared to the value of t-test table, 5,010 > 1,998 at the degree of freedom (df 32-1=31) and the level of significance 5% in which thealternative hypothesis was accepted. The researcher interpreted the result that the RCRR strategy had a significant effect toward the students’ reading comprehension of seventh grade at SMPN 2 Jambi City.  Key Words:  Read, Cover, Remember, Retell.

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out the students difficulties and factor causes students difficult to pronounce English diphthongs at the Twelve Grade of SMA Negeri 8 Kota Jambi. The research methodology of this study was quantitative descriptive research which involved population and sample. The total population of this research was the XII IPS 5 students of SMAN 8 Kota Jambi, which consisted of 42 students. In collecting the data, this research gave test and interview at the class. The result of the research showed that the twelve grade students of SMA Negeri 8 Kota Jambi got difficulties in pronouncing English diphthongs sounds. The students’ difficulties in pronouncing diphthongs are producing sound (/ʌʊ/, /eə/, and /ɪə/). The highest percentage of the students score was 95,23% and the lowest was 15,23%. Where the mean score of the students test was 10 with a poor categories and percentage of students score test were /ʌʊ/ 15,23%, /eə/ 16,19%, and /ɪə/ 17,14%. The factors of students’ difficulties in pronouncing English fricative consonant are; the influence of students mother language, the lack of students knowledge about English sound system and the unsuccessful in using borrowed English words.

Abstract

Teaching strategy was very much important for smoothed transaction of curriculum. Teaching strategies was a learning activity that must be done by the teacher and student, so that the learning objectives can be achieved effectively and efficiently.  teaching strategies were approaches to teaching students. Reading comprehension was the act of understanding what you were reading. While the definition can be simply stated the act was not simple to teach, learn or practice. Reading comprehension was an intentional, active, interactive process that occurs before, during and after a person reads a particular piece of writing. This purpose this research is to know students’ ability about new strategies Bedsra in Reading. The population in this research is student of SMP N 2 KOTA JAMBI in Academic Year 2018-2019. This research uses Experimental Method, the sample of this research is 36 students class VIII B. The researcher uses quantitative method. The data of this research is collected through test. That is pre-test and post-test about narrative text. The result of this research is knowing about new strategies that is Bedsra in teaching reading comprehension. There is progress score from students’ pre-test to students’ post-test score. The average students score for pre-test is 80 with category B. The average post-test score is 40 with category D. The result of the “t-test matched” is 10,34. The number is higher than t table namely 2.03. So Ha is accepted and Ho is rejected.Key words: Bedsra, Teaching Strategies, Reading Comprehension.

Abstract

AbstractThis research aimed to find outtypes  of grammatical errors  in writing paragraph based on surface strategy taxonomy made by eleventh grade students of accounting in SMK N 1 Jambi. This research used qualitative method. This research involved 35 students of Accounting IV in SMK N 1 JAMBI academic year 2017/2018 and choosing them by using random sampling technique. The data were collected through test. In this research, the reseacher used classification of  errors based on Dulay’s theory. The findings show that students  committed error  into  four  types:  omission,  addition,  misformation,  and misordering. From  the frequency  of  each  error  types, misformation was the error which most frequently produced by the students. It took 44,70 % of the total errors. Moreover, 32,94 % errors fell into error of omission and 15,29 % errors fell into misordering; whereas, for addition, it only took 7,05 %.Keywords: Grammatical Error, Writing, Paragraph

Abstract

This study aims to determine students' perceptions about learning English in the twelfth grade of senior high school 8 in the city of Jambi. This research is a qualitative phenomenological research. The data collection technique was obtained through interviews. The results showed that according to students learning English is very easy to understand if students want to learn to understand it, the interest of students of SMAN 8 Jambi city in receiving learning is also supported by learning support facilities such as books, English dictionaries, and other online English dictionary sites. In addition, the assignment given by the teacher also raises student perceptions. Good teacher interaction in delivering learning can also lead to student perceptions. In this case the teachers at SMAN 8 Kota Jambi always use two languages to interact with their students. Good interaction between students and teachers is also supported by student activities. In this case, students of SMAN 8 Jambi City are always actively asking their teachers and friends about learning English. As for its application in everyday life, due to the lack of students 'ability in English pronunciation, and the lack of students' vocabulary regarding English learning, students lack confidence to interact with other people in using English. Based on the research results, it can be concluded that according to students learning English is very easy. Students' interest in receiving learning is also supported by supporting facilities for learning English such as books and dictionaries. Teachers always use two languages to interact with their students in learning English, namely by mixing Indonesian. Students always actively ask teachers and friends about learning English that students do not know, and students do not apply English in their daily life due to lack of vocabulary and lack confidence in interacting with other people in using English.Keywords: Students' Perception, Studying English

Abstract

The objective of the research is to investigate the use of transitivity of students in writing recount text and to find out the most dominant process of transitivity used. In this research, this research used descriptive qualitative method. Subject of the research in this study is students at tenth grade of Senior High School 3 Jambi City in academic year 2021/2022. This research used cluster sampling techniques and as a result the participants in this study is students in class X MIPA 3. The data is collecting by writing test. The data analyzed were 370 clauses taken from recount text written by thirty four students’ X MIPA 3 of tenth grade Senior High School 3 Jambi City. In these clauses, all process types can be found with varieties of the usage. The results were: material process (63%), mental process (15%), behavioral process (8%), verbal process (3%), relational process (5%), and existential process (6%). As for the participants, almost all can be found in students’ recount texts: actor, goal, range, senser, phenomenon, token, value, carrier, attribute, behaver, sayer, verbiage, and existent. Material process is the most process found in the data, it is about 63% or 232 clauses. Material process refers to process of doing and happening. According to Boardman (2008, p. 287) the significant common grammatical patterns of recount text that focused on specific participant, use of material process or action verb, use Circumstance of time and place and temporal sequence of events. The least appear is verbal process.

Abstract

The objectives of the research are to how the effectiveness of Think Pair Share to teach reading comprehension. The method used in this research was Think Pair Share technique. The subject of the research is the eighth grade students of SMP Negeri 2 Kota Jambi. There are 36 students of the eighth class E, and 36 students of the eighth class F. The conclusion in this research is a significant difference of the effects on the students’ reading comprehension between those who were taught using Think Pair Share and those who were taught without using think Pair Share. It can be proved from the score result of Null hypothesis (Ho) is accepted if the value of t-test is the same or less than the value of t-table ( t-test = t-table or t-test < t-table). In the fact, in this research, the null hypothesis is rejected because the value of t-test is higher than the value of t-table (5.437 > 2.032). Alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted if the value of t-test is higher than the value of t-table (t-test > t-table). Thus, the alternative hypothesis is accepted, the value of t-test is higher than the value of t-table (5.437 > 2.028. Based on the calculation analysis, it was found that there is improvement score on the students who were taught by think pair share technique. This can be seen from pre test result treatment and post test result after treatment.

Abstract

This research was aimed to find out the student problems on online learning in reading comprehension. This research took this title to find out what are the problems of students in reading comprehension on online learning. The setting of the research was in Junior High School 2 and the subject of the research was the Ninth Grade Students. The problems in reading online that there are five aspects of reading comprehension were determining main idea, making inference, identifying reference, finding specific information, and the understanding meaning of words or vocabulary. The research methodology of This research was a qualitative phenomenological approach research which involve purposive sampling. The total of respondents who researched this was twenty-two ninth grade of students. The results of the study explained that most of the ninth grade students had problems answering the test questions that had been given. The result is that only a few students understand the comprehension after they read about it. The cause of student problems in online learning is the lack of understanding of the meaning of the test so that they have problems in determining the information contained in a test. Lack of knowledge about vocabulary so that they have problems in learning reading comprehension.Keywords: Students’ Problems, Online Learning, Reading Comprehension.
