Abstract

This study examines the concept of multiculturalism from the perspectives of classical and contemporary Islamic law and its application in Islamic education. It employs a qualitative, library-based research approach, analyzing academic literature concerning multiculturalism, Islamic law, and Islamic education. The findings indicate that multiculturalism in Islam rests on a strong normative foundation rooted in principles of justice, tolerance, and respect for diversity. From a classical Islamic legal perspective, the multicultural concept is reflected in the Charter of Medina, the *ahl al-dhimmah* concept, and the social practices of early Muslim communities that accommodated plurality. Meanwhile, contemporary Islamic thought offers a reinterpretation of multicultural concepts through approaches emphasizing religious moderation, human rights, and democracy. Multicultural values can be implemented in Islamic education by developing inclusive curricula, strengthening teacher competence, and creating educational environments that value diversity. The study affirms that multicultural education within Islam impacts the cognitive, affective, and psychomotor development of learners, contributing to the creation of an inclusive and harmonious society.

Abstract

Comprehensive language skills—comprising listening, speaking, reading, and writing—constitute the primary foundation of human communication and cognitive development. However, in pedagogical implementation, these four skills are often taught in isolation (partially). This study aims to theoretically and conceptually examine the integrative relationship among the components of language skills and its implications for language learning models. The research method employed is a literature review (library research) by collecting, reducing, and analyzing data from relevant textbooks, scientific journals, and curriculum documents. The results of the literature analysis indicate that receptive skills (listening and reading) act as the primary stimulus (input) that determines the quality of productive skills (speaking and writing) as the output. This study concludes that language teaching approaches must shift from a linear-partial model toward an integrative-holistic model to cultivate meaningful language proficiency.

Abstract

Course scheduling is a complex combinatorial optimization problem frequently constrained by limited physical resources and time availability. This study formulates a mathematical model to optimize the Even Semester course schedule at the Computer Science Study Program, HKBP Nommensen Pematangsiantar University, which operates under critical infrastructure constraints: five regular classrooms and one computer laboratory. The Weighted Goal Programming (WGP) method with a binary Mixed Integer Linear Programming (MILP) approach was implemented using Python software. The model integrates hard constraints to guarantee a conflict-free schedule for both rooms and lecturers, and accommodates soft constraints through hierarchical priority weighting. Priority goals include optimizing laboratory allocation for practicum courses, equalizing lecturers' teaching workloads to prevent burnout, and minimizing late-evening class sessions. Computational results confirm that the model achieved convergence to a Global Optimal Solution with an objective function value of 19. The WGP model successfully eliminated all scheduling conflicts (zero conflict) and compressed the physical facility requirement from 13 rooms in the manual schedule to only five regular classrooms and one computer laboratory. Furthermore, the proportion of evening classes was significantly reduced, resulting in a more efficient, equitable, and operationally applicable course schedule.

Abstract

This study examines the functions and meanings of the Rote folk tales, “Teluk Aman Lailonda” and “Hak Aman Nepe Dae,” which embody local wisdom. The objective is to analyze their religious, moral, and ecological values, as well as their relevance to contemporary society. The study employs a qualitative method with a descriptive-interpretive approach through a literature review of texts recorded by F. H. van de Watering (1921) and translated by Ebenhaizer I. Nuban Timo. The analysis is based on the folklore theories of Alan Dundes and James Danandjaja, as well as Mircea Eliade’s concepts of the sacred and the profane. The results of the study indicate that these stories emphasize humanity’s dependence on transcendent forces, the importance of humility, work ethic, integrity, and ecological awareness. These stories serve as a medium for character education and the transmission of cultural values relevant to addressing moral and environmental crises.
