Abstract

This study presents a literature review on the development of a Nahwu learning model using chart media in Salafiyah Islamic boarding schools. The main problem is the difficulty students face in understanding i’rab and Arabic grammar rules through traditional methods such as lectures and memorization. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of chart media as a visual tool that simplifies complex grammatical concepts, evaluate the challenges and opportunities in its implementation, and formulate theoretical and practical contributions to improve Nahwu learning. A systematic review approach was used to review national and international journal articles published over the last 5–15 years. The findings of this study indicate that chart media promotes better conceptual understanding, increases student engagement, and provides pedagogical innovations relevant to the pesantren context. This study concludes that the chart-based model has a significant impact.

Abstract

This research analyzes the Arabic translation of system settings vocabulary in two operating systems, Windows 10 and macOS Big Sur. The study aims to describe and compare the lexical differences arising from translating the English display language into Arabic. The data were obtained from screenshots of both systems and compiled into pairs of equivalent entries. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the study identifies the translation techniques and strategies applied in each operating system. The findings reveal that the most frequently used strategy is diversion, followed by loan translation, either with or without spelling modification. This study provides insights into Arabic localization in digital interfaces and highlights linguistic adaptation in technology translation.

Abstract

Language has an essential role in human communication within society, and understanding the language requires a pragmatic approach. One of the topics in pragmatics is speech acts, particularly illocutionary acts based on Austin's theory, which can be conveyed in various forms, including political speeches. This research analyzes illocutionary speech act and their functions in the political speeches of Russian President Vladimir Putin. The data collection tools in this research consist of the researchers, the document, and the auxiliary table for analysis as the secondary tool. The technique of data collection is the listening-writing method. As for data analysis techniques, the researcher uses Miles and Huberman's method. It consists of four steps: data collection, data presentation, data identification, and conclusion. The results of this research are that there are five expressions of assertives, and their functions are reporting, informing, claiming, and complaining. And one is commissive, and a function is to promise. and six of the directive verbs and their functions: command, permission, prohibition, guidance, and question. And five of the verbs of expressives and their functions are criticism and admonition, and one of the verbs of declaratives and the function mentioned is acknowledgment. These results highlight how speech acts serve as strategic tools in political discourse to convey intentions, establish authority, and influence the audience.

Abstract

Language plays an essential role in global communication, with Arabic holding a prominent status alongside English due to its literary richness and its significance within the Muslim community. In Indonesia, Arabic language education is widely available, exemplified by the BBA (Belajar Bahasa Arab) program, which offers online instruction. This study explores the learning challenges encountered by tutors and participants in the program’s 13th cohort. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were gathered through interviews with one tutor and nine participants, supported by observation and phenomenological analysis. The results identify two primary categories of challenges: linguistic and non-linguistic. Linguistic challenges pertain to participants’ limited mastery of fundamental Arabic linguistic features, while non-linguistic challenges involve technical issues such as unstable internet connections and low learning motivation. These findings underscore the need for enhanced pedagogical strategies and improved technological infrastructure to increase the effectiveness of online Arabic language instruction.

Abstract

Student motivation for learning Arabic in secondary school appeared low, indicating a discrepancy between the learning objectives of developing communication skills and the teaching methods, which still focused on memorisation. This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of combining habituation, memorisation, and vocabulary understanding in shaping positive attitudes among students. The study used a descriptive, qualitative method, observing classes and interviewing Arabic teachers. The results showed that familiarisation through vocabulary media helped students become accustomed to the language, structured memorisation improved memory, and communication exercises provided confidence and a positive attitude. By combining these three strategies, Arabic language learning became more balanced in developing cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. This study made theoretical contributions to the development of an integrated Arabic language learning model and offered practical suggestions for educators to create a more contextual and communicative learning environment.

Abstract

This qualitative descriptive study examines the types, causes, and pedagogical implications of Arabic spelling errors among seventh-grade students at Al-Amanah Modern Islamic Boarding School, Junwangi–Krian, Sidoarjo. Data were obtained through classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, and diagnostic dictation tests, and analysed using thematic coding and error-percentage analysis. Findings reveal five major error categories: letter substitution or omission, misuse of solar and lunar “al,” hamza misplacement, confusion between tāʾ marbūṭa and tāʾ maftūḥa, and letter addition or deletion. These errors originate from phonological, morphological, cognitive, and affective factors, including weak phonological awareness, dialectal Arabic interference, cognitive overload, and low motivation. The study demonstrates that spelling accuracy strongly affects writing fluency and lexical quality. It contributes to Arabic L2 pedagogy by proposing an integrated framework that links phonological awareness with orthographic accuracy, emphasising the need for phonological–morphological training in a supportive, low-anxiety environment to improve Arabic writing competence.

Abstract

This research aims to address the low motivation and reading proficiency (maharah qira’ah) among 11th-grade students at an Islamic Senior High School in Malang through the implementation of the Culturally Responsive Teaching (CRT) approach. The primary objective of this study is to improve students’ motivation to learn and Reading achievement by applying culturally relevant, student-centred instructional practices in the Arabic language learning context. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) model carried out in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The findings demonstrate a continuous improvement in both motivation and learning outcomes. Motivation increased from 72% in the pre-cycle to 75.1% in Cycle 1 and rose again to 78.1% in Cycle 2. Learning achievement followed a similar pattern: the pre-cycle mastery level reached 70%, dropped to 63.3% in Cycle 1 as students adapted to new learning strategies, and subsequently improved to 80% in Cycle 2 following strengthened implementation of CRT, enhanced scaffolding, and diversified learning media. These results indicate that culturally responsive practices significantly support students’ engagement, comprehension of Arabic texts, and overall academic performance. In conclusion, the consistent application of CRT effectively enhances learning motivation and Reading proficiency in maharah qira’ah. CRT is therefore recommended as a relevant and impactful instructional approach for Arabic language learning in culturally diverse classroom settings.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze Mourid Barghouti’s memories in his memoir Ra’aitu Ramallah using a basic interpretive qualitative approach, drawing on Maurice Halbwachs’ theory of collective memory, Paul Ricoeur’s narrative theory, and Antonio Gramsci’s concept of cultural hegemony. The research focuses on how the memoir represents the suffering of Palestinians after the 1967 Naksa through the narration of personal memories that simultaneously reflect the collective memory of the Palestinian people. The study is based on an in-depth reading of the text and a review of relevant previous literature. The findings reveal that Barghouti’s recollections address crucial themes such as war, death, massacres, terrorism, occupation, borders, poverty, irony, and the Nakba. These memories do not merely depict individual experiences but articulate a shared memory aimed at recovering Palestinian national identity. The study also shows that Barghouti’s selection of memories is intentional, serving to shape his Palestinian identity and to employ the memoir as a form of counter-cultural hegemony intended to expose Israeli occupation and reinforce a narrative of resistance within collective consciousness. Thus, Ra’aitu Ramallah becomes a symbolic space of struggle through literature, where memory and narrative function as tools to resist forgetting and cultural dispossession.
