Abstract

This study aims to determine the effectiveness of using origami paper folding techniques in improving the fine motor skills of 5-6 year old children at Barunawati 3 Kindergarten in Samarinda. This study uses a quantitative approach with a pre experimental design, One Group Pretest Posttest Design. The sample used was total sampling, namely all 23 children in group B at Barunawati 3 Samarinda. The results of this study showed that the pretest score 50.10, categorized as developing, and after the treatment, the average posttest score was 75.43, categorized as developing as expected. The n-gain score obtained a value of 0.6 < 0.7 with a percentage of 67.05%. placing it in the moderate category, which means that the use of origami paper folding techniques in improving children’s fine motor skills is quite effective. The n-gain score results show an improvement in fine motor skill after treatment using the origami paper folding technique. Furthermore, the significance value obtained in the hypothesis test was 0.000 < 0.05, which means that the significance value is smaller than α = 0.05. the t-count value obtained was 41.356 and the t-table value obtained was 1.713, so it can be seen that t-count > t-table, namely 41.356 > 1.713.

Abstract

Marginalized women in urban areas face vulnerability due to social, economic, and gender inequalities that limit access to education, employment, social protection, and basic rights. This condition demands a contextual and sustainable empowerment approach, one of which is thru community-based non-formal education. This research aims to describe the role of facilitators from the KAPAL Perempuan Institute in empowering marginalized urban women thru the Sekolah Perempuan program in Jakarta. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with data collection techniques in the form of in-depth interviews, non-participatory observation, and documentation studies of facilitators, female school members, and institutional staff. Data analysis was conducted using the Miles and Huberman model. The research results show that facilitators play a strategic role in every stage of empowerment, namely the awareness stage thru the development of critical awareness of life experiences and gender inequality, the capacity-building stage thru gender-just education and strengthening local context-based leadership, and the empowerment stage thru cadre training, administrative mentoring, and women's rights advocacy. The role of the facilitator is not only technical but also transformative, serving as a bridge between women's experiences and critical knowledge. This research shows the role of facilitators in empowering urban marginalized women to the stage of empowerment; the facilitators successfully transformed their members into cadres for other vulnerable women.

Abstract

Special understanding is a fundamental ability that elementary school students need to develop as a foundation for recognizing their surrounding environment and understanding relationships among spatial elements such as location, direction, distance, distribution patterns, and spatial interconnections. In social studies (IPS) learning at the elementary level, spatial understanding is essential because it is closely related to geography content, which should be taught contextually and bassed on student's real enviroments. One strategic medium to develop spatial understanding is maps, as they provide concrete spatial representations that help students visualize geographic phenomena. However, many elementary students still experience difficulties in reading map symbols, understanding orientation, and identifying spatial realtionships. Similar condition were found at SD Negeri Bertingkat Naikoten, where maps have been used in learning, yet their contribution to students’ spatial understanding had not been clearly identified. This study aims to analyze the level of critical spatial thinking of fourth grade students at SD Bertingkat Naikoten in learning spatial material using maps. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method. The population consisted of all fouth grade students, with the sample being all students of class IV B. Data were collected trough classroom observation and written tests in the form of multiple choice and essay based on indicators of spatial critical thinking in map reading. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistic. The results show that most students achieved good to very good levels of spatial understanding. The dominance of these categories indicates that students were able to comprehend basic spatial concepts effetively trough map based learning. These findings suggest that help students organize and reason spatial information. Overall, the study confirms that the effective use of maps can significantly support the development of spatial thinking among elementary school students.

Abstract

This study aimed to improve early reading skills and student activeness through the use of letter-matching games in Grade I of one public elementary school in Palembang City. The research employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in three cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The research subjects were 32 first-grade students. Data were collected through reading tests and observation sheets to measure students’ early reading abilities and learning activeness. The results showed a significant improvement in both early reading skills and student activeness across the three cycles. In Cycle I, the average reading score was 66.6 with a mastery percentage of 34%, and student activeness reached 63.4%. In Cycle II, the average score increased to 90.71 with a mastery percentage of 87%, while student activeness rose to 94%. In Cycle III, the average score further improved to 92.12 with a mastery percentage of 90%, and student activeness reached 96%. These results exceeded the predetermined success indicators, which required at least 80% of students to achieve mastery and a minimum of 75% student activeness. The findings indicate that the use of letter-matching games is effective in enhancing early reading skills and increasing student activeness. Therefore, letter-matching games can be recommended as an engaging and effective instructional strategy for early reading instruction in elementary schools.
