Abstract

This research aims to show the archetypes that occur in the Speak Graphic Novel. The purpose of this research is to analyze the archetypes of the main characters in the oral graphic novel by Laurie Halse. This research applies Carl Gustaf Jung's archetype theory. This research uses descriptive qualitative research. Data collection was carried out through four steps: reading, recording, analyzing data, and identifying data. The results of this research show that the Speak Graphic Novel shows the existence of two personas, five animus, one shadow, and one self archetype, before reaching the self archetype Melinda experiences an individualization process, in this graphic novel individualization appears when Melinda neutralizes this. things that cause him to use a persona and have to face the shadow that appears by providing real resistance to Andy who has been pressuring and threatening him. Another thing that helped the individualization process was Melinda's decision to accept the fact that she had made a mistake and forgive herself. Based on the results above, it can be concluded that in this novel the archetype is shown in full, starting from the details of the cause of the archetype's emergence to the start of the individualization process as a form of Melinda's effort to control or eliminate the cause of the archetype's emergence, which in the end causes the main character to achieve a self-archetype.

Abstract

The study focused on how femininity and nature are portrayed in the Moana movie. The research method used is descriptive qualitative, where data is collected by watching films critically to achieve desired results, taking screenshots and taking notes, and identifying and classifying to support the analysis. Researchers found several aspects of the relationship between femininity and nature in the film Moana after conducting an analysis. Twenty-one data points were identified and classified into three main data groups to support the analysis process carried out by the researcher. One of the important discoveries in this movie is that nature is portrayed as a mother, the same as a woman who will not be angry for no reason. This is reflected in the character of Te Fiti, which also represents motherhood and interconnectedness with nature. Nature is portrayed as a mother, and the film depicts the entire relationship between Moana and nature.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the role of women in the environment from the perspective of ecofeminism. The researcher uses Karen J. Warren's theory of ecofeminism to determine the level of concern and the role of women in environmental issues. This research employs qualitative methods. The data source for this research is the Ainbo movie. The results show that elements of capitalism, which pursue profit through the relentless exploitation of natural resources and labor, are visible in the practice of illegal gold mining in the Amazon. These activities cause significant environmental damage, and women are often the chief victims of their negative effects. This capitalist system has received strong criticism from the women's movement because, besides promoting environmental degradation, it also exacerbates the oppression of women in the Amazon forest area. The researcher concludes that nature and women have a close relationship, with both often experiencing exploitation. Male characters are depicted as representatives of capitalism who exploit natural resources for personal gain. In contrast, women are depicted as having a deep closeness to nature, reflecting their feminine principles, which emphasize protecting and saving the environment. The role of women as saviors of the environment stands out in contrast to the destructive actions carried out by male capitalists.

Abstract

This article explores the theme of women’s silent resistance against patriarchal oppression as depicted in Yiyun Li’s A Flawless Silence and Ni Komang Ariani’s Sepasang Mata Dinaya yang Terpenjara. Through a comparative literary analysis, the study examines how silence becomes a strategic form of resistance employed by the female protagonists Min and Dinaya who navigate the constraints of patriarchal expectations within their respective cultural settings. Rather than interpreting silence as submission, this article highlights how both characters use silence to assert agency, preserve identity, and subtly challenge the power structures that confine them. Central to this analysis are the interwoven themes of domestic constraint, cultural expectation, and psychological endurance, which shape the characters’ experiences and strategies of resistance. The study contributes to discussions on women’s narratives of struggle and resilience, offering insights into how literature portrays quiet defiance as a meaningful response to gender-based oppression.

Abstract

This narrative literature review investigates the integration of cognitive-constructivist, social-collaborative, assessment-based, and cultural-rhetorical frameworks to enhance English as a Foreign Language (EFL) writing instruction. Addressing persistent gaps between theoretical knowledge and classroom implementation, this study synthesizes empirical evidence from 2020 to 2025 to develop an integrated pedagogical framework. The methodology employed a literature search across multiple databases (JSTOR, Google Scholar, ERIC, Web of Science, Scopus) using specified conceptual clusters, with thematic analysis conducted through a three-phase synthesis approach involving comparative methods, critical evaluation, and theoretical integration. Findings demonstrate that when systematically integrated, cognitive self-regulation strategies and social collaborative processes produce synergistic effects on writing complexity, accuracy, and fluency. Assessment effectiveness emerges through differentiated approaches combining formative, summative, and dynamic evaluation methods across proficiency levels. Cultural-rhetorical analysis reveals that learners' first language traditions significantly influence second language rhetorical choices, requiring explicit, culturally adaptive pedagogical interventions. The synthesis identifies professional development, reflective practice, and communities of practice as essential mechanisms for sustainable theory-to-practice translation. The study contributes an initial conceptual framework for understanding multidimensional approaches to EFL writing instruction, though geographic bias toward East Asian contexts and methodological limitations constrain generalizability. Future research should prioritize longitudinal investigations, implementation science methodologies, and collaborative inquiry approaches to develop a scalable, culturally inclusive writing pedagogy that effectively serves diverse learner populations across varied institutional contexts.

Abstract

This study explores gender representation in Indonesian folktales through a feminist perspective. The research focuses on two folktales, The Origin of Mount Saba Mpolulu from Southeast Sulawesi and Princess Tandampalik from South Sulawesi, both of which portray complex gender roles and relations. Using a qualitative approach and content analysis method, the study identifies and interprets explicit and implicit elements of gender construction in the narratives. Feminist theory and gender studies are applied as analytical frameworks to examine issues such as subordination, stereotypes, violence, inferiority–superiority, and gender awareness. The findings reveal that folktales reflect not only cultural values but also gender ideologies embedded within society. In The Origin of Mount Saba Mpolulu, the female character demonstrates strength and independence, challenging patriarchal dominance, while also experiencing subordination and stereotyping. In Princess Tandampalik, gender relations are depicted more equally, with both male and female characters exercising autonomy in decision-making despite cultural restrictions. However, traces of gender injustice—such as forced marriage, negative stereotypes, and unequal domestic-public roles—remain evident.

Abstract

Rickshaw painting in Bangladesh is a distinct type of folk art that turns cycle rickshaws into colorful mobile canvases. The paintings represent themes from rural life, cinema, religion and national history, but are also a symbol of cultural identity and intangible heritage. In the past few decades this tradition has undergone serious decline due to modernization. This situation presents a research gap in the potential contribution of digital archiving towards the preservation & revitalization of rickshaw painting. The purpose of this research is to study the possibility of digital archives as a safeguarding tool for the artistic, cultural and social dimensions of this endangered tradition. The research is qualitative, relying on archival research, field observation of workshops, and oral history interviews with rickshaw painters and rickshaw pullers. It also examines how tools such as high-resolution photography, video documentation, oral history recordings, and virtual exhibitions can capture not only the artworks but also the techniques, stories, and apprenticeship systems behind them. Findings have suggested that digital archives can not only preserve the visual motif, but also the oral tradition, and can establish global access to the art, as well as new markets for artisans. However, challenges exist, especially in terms of authenticity, over commercialization and the rights of artists. The paper concludes by stating that community-centered and ethically designed digital archives can offer a sustainable model for rickshaw painting's living heritage preservation while amplifying its cultural value at the local and global levels.

Abstract

The extension of private land ownership into marine territories in Sumba has generated socio-economic tensions by restricting traditional fishing grounds and undermining communal access to coastal resources; yet, scholarly attention to its cultural and digital implications remains limited. This study aims to examine how such privatization affects the livelihoods and cultural identity of coastal communities in the context of globalization and algorithmic power. Employing a qualitative ethnographic approach combined with digital discourse analysis, the research investigates community narratives, policy documents, and representations across social media platforms. The findings reveal that privatization disrupts indigenous systems of reciprocity, compels local communities to renegotiate their cultural identity, and exposes them to global economic models that privilege individual ownership. Moreover, algorithmic amplification in digital media tends to marginalize indigenous voices while reinforcing dominant narratives aligned with commercial interests. The study concludes that marine privatization in Sumba not only reshapes socio-cultural relations but also illustrates how globalization and algorithmic systems jointly reconfigure cultural identity and resource legitimacy in contemporary Indonesia.
