Abstract

This research is to: (1) analyze the level of economic efficiency of upland rice farming in different land ownership status and (2) analyze the factors that influence the economic efficiency of upland rice farming in different land ownership status. The data analysis method used was the production function approach and stochastic frontier cost function. The analysis results show that seed and fertilizer price variables have a significant impact on the 99% significance level and are positive. Labor wage has no significant impact on production costs and is negative. Production variable has a significant impact on the 99% significance level. Landowner and farmhand dummy variables have a 99% significant level and are positive. It can be interpreted that the production costs in both the landowner and farmhand land ownership status are higher than in the pawn taker land ownership status. The average level of economic efficiency of the landowner is higher than the farmhand and pawn taker ownership status. Factors that influence the economic efficiency of upland rice farming include: age, duration of farming, frequency of obtaining information, membership of farmer groups, other sources of income, landowner dummy and farmhand dummy.

Abstract

This research was conducted to 1) Analyze the perception of consumers on the attributes of chili, and 2) Know which chili products are selected by consumers based on shape,  size and which are most wanted to buy. Forty consumer respondents were taken by accidental sampling technique.  Consumers are asked to assess 10 types of the UNIB chili varieties, both monoculture and combination polyculture between varieties. The results showed that the majority of respondents stated that the size and shape attributes were important as the basis for the decision to buy chili, while the attributes of uniform size and shape are considered normal.  The variety of chili which consumers like because of their size, shape and desire to be purchased were UNIB C H13. While for this type of combination, the combination of UNIB C H13 and UNIB C H53 is desired to be purchased by consumers. This type of combination should be cultivated by farmers because it is resistant to pests, high productivity and preferred by consumers.

Abstract

Optimizing the area of oil palm plantations can be approached through the Cow and Palm Oil Integration System (SISKA), to increase efficiency and productivity through the integration of the plantation sub-sector with the livestock sub-sector. This study aimed to analyze the role of farmer groups and the institutional aspects of these groups in supporting the SISKA program in Pelalawan District. The approach used in this study was the institutional theory of Syahyuti. The role of farmer groups (as learning classes, production units and vehicles for collaboration) and institutional aspects of farmer groups (aspects of values, norms and behavior) were analyzed using Likert scale. The relationship between the roles and institutional aspects of the farmer groups was analyzed by Spearman Correlation test. The overall role of the farmer group is in the good category with a score of 3.49, most of the members (69.60%) answered in the fairly good and good category. The overall institutional aspects based on values, norms and behavior in the SISKA farmer group are in the good category with a score of 4.05. Correlation on sub-variable values, norms and behavior towards the role of farmers as units of production is a strong direct correlation. This shows that values, norms and behavior in groups affect, encourage and enhance the role of groups as learning classes that support the level of knowledge of farmers and the role of farmer groups as production unit.

Abstract

This purposes of the research were explaining the process of communication that occurred in the process of the adoption of a Booster system innovation in catfish farming. Determination of research area is done purposively in Jambewangi Village, Sempu Subdistrict, Banyuwamgi District. The subject of the research is chosen purposively. Data collection was carried out for 5 months from October 2018-March 2019 using indepth interviews, observations and documents. The research informants consisted of 3 people who adopted the booster system and 1 person who decided not to adopt. Data analysis used Miles and Huberman. The results of the research showed that the innovation adoption process was carried out through some stages, namely knowledge, persuasion, decision, implementation and confirmation. The community has different knowledge about the booster system, the booster system has been known since 2014, to improve knowledge and skills in the booster system, catfish farmers attend trainings held in various cities. It took between 3-6 months to decide to adopt, the informant refused to adopt the booster system after knowing that the pond model used was different from the pond in the previous system culture. The informants did not implement a complete booster system because the multivitamins were given as needed. Catfish farmers decided to continue cultivating catfish with a booster system for the following year. Each stage that is passed uses interpersonalcommunication channels to exchange messages. The speed at which an innovation was adopted was influenced by the nature of the innovation, namely relative advantage, compatibility, complexity, triability and observability.
