Abstract

Teaching scientific literacy in schools is not easy, even though it is needed in education in the industrial era 4.0. This study aims to analyze the level of students' scientific literacy skills and their obstacles in school. This research was conducted on tenth graders at two Banjarmasin High Schools, namely SMA which applied the driving curriculum, and SMA which applied the 2013 curriculum. The number of research samples was 60 students who were taken using cluster random sampling. The results of the analysis show students' ability to explain phenomena scientifically, design and evaluate scientific inquiries, and interpret scientific data and evidence in each school in poor criteria (value 40), except to explain phenomena scientifically in group 1 in fairly good criteria (value = 52). The existence of obstacles is believed to interfere with student's ability to understand scientific literacy. These barriers are sourced from students' internal factors (STEM understanding, scientific processes) and are exacerbated by external factors (teachers' STEM literacy, learning atmosphere, infrastructure, assessment, and evaluation).

Abstract

Practicum is critical for students to develop their abilities and comprehension of the subject being studied. The lack of a laboratory and a laboratory assistant, as well as limited instruments and practicum materials, are the primary reasons why practicum activities are not performed in schools. Therefore, the use of instruments and materials which are available in everyday life can be an alternative to keep carrying the practicum out. This study aimed to develop a simple chemistry practicum video on green chemistry- based acid-base solutions and determine the quality of the developed video. The research method employed was development research (R D) which adapted the 4-D models (define, design, development, and disseminate), although it was limited to the stage of development in this study. The research instruments used were the product quality assessment sheets for material expert, media expert, reviewers (senior high school chemistry teachers), and student response sheets. The developed product was a video containing determining the best indicators, making pH routes, determining the pH of acid-base, and acid-base titrations. A quality assessment on the product by material expert was 95% with the very good category; from media expert, it got a percentage of 95% with the very good category; and from reviewers, a percentage of 95% with the very good category was obtained. Furthermore, based on student responses to the product, a percentage of 98% with a very good response category was also obtained. Abstract

One of the causes of the low critical thinking skills of participants is caused by the learning process that focuses on mastering concepts alone without involving students to construct knowledge independently. Less comprehensive learning tools are the main obstacles that are often encountered in the implementation of learning. Project based learning is a constructivist method that is able to involve students to construct knowledge empirically, one of which is by utilizing the content of ethnoscience as a contextual approach in project learning. This study aims to develop a quality ethnoscience-based Project based learning devices in terms of content validity and empirical validity. This study uses the research and development method with the ADDIE model. The research was conducted at SMA Negeri 1 Gandapura.
