Abstract

Science learning in the 21st century must provide a set of skills contained in 6c: creativity and innovation, communication, critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration, computational thinking and compassion. The problem studied in this literature review is how research on science, technology, religion and educational sustainable development (ESD) is oriented in science learning and how the bibliometric network and research trends in learning research are. An article search using Publish or Perish software was carried out on October 24 2020. The resulting data was metadata extracted from google scholar and Scopus via API key, with the keywords science learning, STEM, STEM-Religion, PjBl, ESD from 2018-2023. The results obtained were 495 articles that were successfully downloaded along with their metadata which was saved in RIS and CSV formats. The data obtained does not include theses, books, proceedings, modules, theses and reports. The VOS viewer supports three types of visualizations: network, overlay, and density. Meanwhile, visualization with biblioshiny includes the distribution of publications based on year, affiliation, and most cited sources on the integration of STEM, religion, PjBL and ESD as well as topics that are trending and relevant for further research. The results of the analysis show that research trends in 2023 related to the topics of STEM, religion, PjBL and ESD are that each topic is researched individually and not many have integrated them. A topic that is less researched is the integration of STEM or PjBL with religion and there is not much ESD orientation in science learning

Abstract

Force is one the physics cocncepts which is challenging for students. Several tests have been developed to measure students’ understanding about force. However, the instruments for assessing students’ competence to represent force concepts in various formats are limited. This study aims to develop and validate a multiple-choice test to assess students’ representational competence of force. Research and Development research is implemented in producing the test. The test includes three representations: graphs, equations, and words or descriptions which covers two contexts: on horizontal surface and on inclined plane. Moreover, this test involves three different situations namely an object is at rest, moving with constant velocity, and moving with constant acceleration. Each representation consists of 10 items and the total of items is 30. This test is administered to 51 undergraduate physics education students. The results show that the range of item difficulty index is 0.07-0.64 and discrimantory power is from 0.14 to 1.00. The reliability index for representational competence test of force to be 0.80 which is sufficiently high measurement. These results suggest that couple items of the test need to be revised before administering to the large sample

Abstract

Integrated science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) education has been a popular topic worldwide for the last few years. However, only a few studies have examined this topic in Indonesia. This literature review is to fill the gap by focusing on science teachers perspectives on the STEM education approach at the secondary school level, including what they know and what they implement in science classrooms. For this purpose, 48 research articles published in national and international journals and judged to be pertinent to the current study, were reviewed. The results emerging from most of the existing research indicated that Indonesian science teachers in general were familiar with the integrated STEM teaching approach. However, more than half of them never tried implementing it in their classes. In addition, the studies revealed that project-based learning was the most frequently used method in STEM-based science classes. Teachers in science classes mainly employed integrated STEM education approach to promote 21st century skills such as creative and critical thinking, problem-solving, and literacy.
