Abstract

Forest and land fires are a recurring environmental disaster in South Kalimantan that threaten ecosystems and community well-being. This study aims to identify the main causes of forest and land fires, examine the triggering factors, and examine their impacts on communities in Telawang District, West Banjarmasin Regency. A qualitative phenomenological approach was used to explore community experiences and perceptions related to fire incidents. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews with five purposively selected informants: the village head, a community leader, and three residents affected by the fires. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results indicate that human activity and low environmental awareness are considered the primary causes of forest and land fires, while climate factors play a secondary role. The most significant impact is respiratory health problems caused by smoke exposure. This study highlights the importance of strengthening environmental literacy, community participation, and government support to improve disaster mitigation and reduce fire-related risks.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the perceptions of earthquake-affected communities regarding search and rescue operations during the Sumedang earthquake emergency, West Java. Cipameungpeuk Village has a moderate earthquake risk index. The earthquake occurred between December 2023 and January 2024. The results of the search and rescue operation procedures reported limited time and equipment during the operation, resulting in an increase in the number of affected people. Using the ex-post facto method to determine the perceptions of those affected based on gestalt theory, ecological perception theory related to region, situation, and environment, as well as the main SAR operation indicators from BASARNAS. Using perception analysis, the affected community was classified as the main factor in reviewing the response time of search and rescue operations. The results showed that approximately 60% of the community perceived search and rescue as adequate, but 40% of respondents with a positive perception suggested evaluation and operational time training. This study provides a social perspective in disaster geography.

Abstract

Population growth in Kebayoran Lama District has increased the need for land for settlements and economic activities, thus triggering changes in land use that have the potential to reduce non-built-up land. This study aims to analyze changes in land use and settlement distribution patterns in Kebayoran Lama District during the period 2004–2024. The method used is quantitative descriptive with a spatial-temporal approach based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS). The analysis of land use changes was carried out using an overlay technique of land use maps in 2004, 2014, and 2024, while the settlement distribution pattern in 2024 was analyzed using Average Nearest Neighbor (ANN). The results show that the settlement area increased from 652 ha to 1,294 ha, while mixed vegetation decreased from 947 ha to 333 ha and vacant land decreased from 189 ha to 7 ha. The ANN results show a Nearest Neighbor Ratio of 0.668 with a z-score of -10.293 and a p-value of 0.000, indicating a clustered settlement distribution pattern. This study recommends strengthening spatial use controls and protecting undeveloped land to maintain a balance between urban development and environmental sustainability.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the conformity of Green Open Space (RTH) distribution in South Jakarta in 2014 and 2024 with the spatial pattern defined in the Detailed Spatial Plan (RDTR). This research uses a quantitative approach with spatial analysis based on Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and remote sensing. The main data include Landsat 8 imagery and RDTR documents. Land cover classification was conducted using the Maximum Likelihood Classification (MLC) method, followed by overlay analysis to determine conformity levels. The results show that RTH in South Jakarta is still dominated by conforming areas, but there is a decline over time. The conforming RTH area decreased from 932.15 hectares (6.59%) in 2014 to 892.23 hectares (6.31%) in 2024. Meanwhile, non-conforming RTH increased from 40.16 hectares to 80.08 hectares. The largest decrease occurred in Jagakarsa (13.02 ha), followed by Pesanggrahan (5.41 ha) and Cilandak (5.04 ha). Compared to Law No. 26 of 2007 requiring 30% green open space, the RTH proportion in South Jakarta is still far below the standard.

Abstract

Modern education requires students to possess critical thinking skills to respond to social and environmental challenges. One innovative learning approach that supports this goal is the Group Investigation (GI) model integrated with the school environment as a learning resource. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Group Investigation model on students’ critical thinking skills in the topic of environment and its problems at SMA Negeri 12 Kupang. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. Data were collected through critical thinking tests administered as pretests and posttests and analyzed using normality, homogeneity, and Independent Sample t-tests. The GI model was implemented through six stages: topic selection, cooperative planning, investigation, analysis and synthesis, presentation of findings, and evaluation. The results showed that the experimental class achieved a higher average posttest score (82,86) than the control class (70,82). The significance value of 0,000 (< 0,05) indicates that the Group Investigation model effectively improves students’ critical thinking skills.

Abstract

Fertility policy is one of the tools used by the state to control population growth and support national development. This study aims to analyze fertility policy in Indonesia from a political geography perspective, particularly in relation to the demographic bonus and inequality between regions. The method used is a descriptive qualitative approach through literature review and documentation collection. The research findings indicate that fertility policy focuses not only on regulating birth rates but also on improving population quality and regional development. Currently, Indonesia is experiencing a demographic bonus phase that offers opportunities for economic growth through the dominance of the productive-age population. However, exploiting this opportunity still faces various challenges such as unemployment, educational inequality, and limited access to reproductive health services. Furthermore, there are differences in fertility rates across regions, with urban areas having lower fertility rates compared to peripheral areas such as Papua and East Nusa Tenggara. Therefore, a population policy that is equitable and appropriate to the characteristics of each region is needed to ensure that the demographic bonus can be managed most effectively and sustainably.

Abstract

Tanah Rubuh Beach is a newly developed coastal tourism destination located in Malaku Village, North Seram District, Central Maluku Regency. As an emerging destination opened in 2026, this tourism site offers coastal scenery, coral cliffs, ocean waves, gazebos, wooden photo spots, swings, parking areas, and a local ticketing system with an entrance fee of IDR 5,000 per visitor. However, its development still faces several challenges, particularly related to unpaved and rocky access roads, limited supporting facilities, and the need for community-based tourism management. This study aims to analyze the tourism potential and development strategy of Tanah Rubuh Beach as a new coastal destination. The research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with field observation, interviews, documentation, and 4A tourism component analysis, namely attraction, accessibility, amenity, and ancillary services. The results indicate that Tanah Rubuh Beach has strong natural attractions, especially coastal scenery, coral-based landscape, and photo-oriented tourism spaces. Accessibility is relatively strategic because the site is located approximately 200 meters from the main inter-district road, although the internal road still requires improvement. Amenities have started to develop through ticket booths, parking areas, gazebos, swings, and wooden seating areas, but they remain limited in terms of safety, sanitation, and visitor management. The ancillary aspect requires strengthening through institutional support, local community participation, promotion, and coastal risk-sensitive planning. This study recommends that Tanah Rubuh Beach be developed through a community-based and sustainable coastal tourism approach.

Abstract

This research evaluates the ineffectiveness of the spatial hierarchy in Indramayu Regency, which triggers development disparities between the central and western regions. Applying Walter Christaller's Central Place Theory, this qualitative descriptive study examines the rationality behind the demand for the establishment of the West Indramayu New Autonomous Region (DOB). Data were gathered through field observations, in-depth interviews, and secondary sources, and then analyzed using the Central Place Theory and the evaluation of regional expansion feasibility parameters. The findings indicate a functional failure in the maximum range of the parent city's service center; residents in the western region must travel 70 km (taking 1.5–3 hours) to access high-order services. This spatial barrier triggers a leakage in public mobility orientation toward Subang Regency. Theoretically, the proposed West Indramayu New Autonomous Region has exceeded the required threshold, supported by a demographic base of over 700,000 inhabitants and a high centrality index in Kroya District as the prospective capital. This study concludes that regional expansion in West Indramayu is not merely a political commodity, but rather a logical spatial necessity.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the accessibility of health facilities by the population in Sukasari District using a Geographic Information System (GIS) approach. Sukasari District was selected due to its urban characteristics with relatively high population density and mobility, making the need for health services critical. The study employed a quantitative method with a GIS-based spatial approach, supported by questionnaire distribution to 47 respondents. Analysis was conducted on aspects of distance, travel time, road conditions, transportation availability, and the distribution of health facilities. Results indicate that the majority of respondents considered health facilities in their area to be well-distributed and sufficiently accessible. Most respondents stated that the nearest health facility is less than 2 km away with a travel time of less than 15 minutes. Road conditions and transportation availability were also rated as adequately supportive of community access to health services. Nevertheless, some areas were found to have unequal access quality, particularly regarding infrastructure and transportation conditions. Cost factors also remained a consideration for some community members in utilizing health services. Overall, this study demonstrates that the level of accessibility to health facilities in Sukasari District is relatively good, though equalization of access quality, infrastructure improvement, and affordability of health services still need attention to ensure equitable access for all residents.
