Abstract

Green Canyon Pangandaran is a renowned natural tourism destination known for its stunning ecosystem. However, this breathtaking natural attraction also faces challenges in maintaining a balance between environmental conservation and tourism growth. This study aims to understand the conservation strategies implemented in Green Canyon and their impact on both the ecosystem and the tourism industry in the area. This research employs a qualitative approach using observation, interviews, and literature studies. The findings indicate that implementing a community-based ecotourism concept, enforcing strict regulations on tourism activities, and providing environmental education for visitors and tourism stakeholders play a crucial role in maintaining a balance between nature conservation and economic benefits. However, challenges remain, such as the surge in tourist numbers without adequate supervision and the lack of environmental awareness among some visitors. To ensure the sustainability of Green Canyon, close collaboration between the government, local communities, and tourism operators is essential in implementing more sustainable policies. This study provides recommendations for conservation-based management strategies to ensure that Green Canyon and other natural tourism destinations can continue to be enjoyed by future generations without compromising environmental preservation.

Abstract

With Kupang City's subdistricts serving as the analysis unit, this study seeks to determine the hierarchy of service centers. The hierarchy level of service centers is ascertained by the use of centrality indices and scalogram techniques. The results are presented in a hierarchy table based on the presence and completeness of service facilities in each area. In Kupang City, Hierarchy I includes the Oebobo and Maulafa subdistricts, which have more complete facilities and infrastructure and function as primary service centers with significant influence on surrounding areas. Hierarchy II consists of the Alak and Kelapa Lima subdistricts, which, although having more facilities, are not as comprehensive as Oebobo and Maulafa, with lower service quality. Meanwhile, the Kota Raja and Kota Lama subdistricts are in Hierarchy III, with more limited facilities and functioning as local service centers with lower accessibility. The results of this study are expected to provide insights for the local government in planning related to service centers.

Abstract

Tin mining in the Bangka Belitung Islands Province has long been a strategic economic sector since the colonial era. Despite its significant contribution to the national economy, this activity has led to complex ecological and social impacts, including environmental degradation, pollution, and social conflict. This study aims to analyze tin mining practices through the lens of environmental ethics, highlighting the moral imbalance between human interests and nature. Employing a qualitative case study approach, the research draws on a literature review of scholarly articles, media investigations, and theoretical frameworks of environmental ethics—particularly anthropocentrism, biocentrism, and ecocentrism. The findings reveal the dominance of anthropocentric values in mining policies and practices, wherein human interests are prioritized over ecosystem sustainability. Weak governance, the prevalence of illegal mining, and widespread environmental damage point to an ethical crisis in natural resource management. Biocentric and ecocentric approaches are proposed as normative alternatives that recognize the intrinsic value of nature and non-human life forms. This study underscores the urgency of reformulating development paradigms based on ecological justice to achieve more inclusive and ethical sustainability in resource governance in Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Desa Warbal, Kei Kecil Barat, Southeast Maluku, focusing on achievements and challenges faced within the local context. A descriptive qualitative approach was employed, involving in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, participatory observations, and document analysis. The findings reveal that Desa Warbal has made significant progress in the social and economic development pillars, including poverty alleviation, food security, healthcare services, quality education, and basic infrastructure development. However, achievements in environmental and governance pillars remain limited. Key issues include limited access to clean energy, ineffective management of marine and terrestrial environments, vulnerability of settlements to tidal floods, and static village institutions with minimal external partnerships. Internal social conflicts also hinder peaceful and just governance. These findings underscore the importance of holistic and contextual policy interventions, strengthening village institutional capacity, and increasing community participation to ensure comprehensive and sustainable SDGs implementation. This study contributes empirical insights into the dynamics of SDGs implementation in Indonesian coastal villages with unique geographic and social characteristics and provides strategic recommendations for sustainable development policy at the local level

Abstract

Stunting is claimed to be an issue in national development, one of the problems being that the grouping of stunting distribution areas in Larantuka District is still done manually. Therefore, one of the data clustering analyses that can be applied is using Cluster analysis and mapping. The purpose of this research is to understand the map of the distribution and clustering of stunting cases using the clustering analysis method with the SaTScan software in the Larantuka District, East Flores Regency, which is beneficial in facilitating related agencies in observing the points of stunting case distribution. This research uses a quantitative descriptive method with the aim of describing and objectively illustrating the distribution of stunting in Larantuka. The data collection methods used in this research are through literature studies related to the issues, direct interviews with the sources, and data collection on the number of stunting sufferers in Larantuka District. The analysis results indicate that 2 locations were detected in the Clustering satscan processing, namely cluster 1 with 42 cases and a P-value of 0.00000000000000001, which falls into the high category, while cluster 2 has 15 cases with a P-value of 0.0000000000000033, which falls into the low category. If the P-value is less than 0.05, it shows strong evidence that these clusters have high significance.

Abstract

The still-rarely-known Rana Masak Hot Spring Natural Tourism Area is a problem in itself. Therefore, an appropriate strategy is needed in the development of the Rana Masak Natural Tourism Area. The method used is a Mixed method, with data collection techniques through observation, documentation, interviews and questionnaires. The results of the study show that the Rana Masak Hot Spring Natural Tourism Area has visual attractions including: hot springs at more than one point, golden yellow limestone rock formations, panoramic rice fields and rivers that soothe the eyes of tourists. Accessibility conditions are still inadequate because they still use dirt paths. The condition of the available amenities is only a park equipped with chairs in a state of disrepair. The strategy that must be implemented is to support an aggressive growth policy by using existing strengths to take advantage of existing opportunities and the development of the Rana Masak Hot Spring Natural Tourism Area is further optimized by strengthening the construction of facilities and accessibility as well as increasing promotion by collaborating with local influencers so that it can become a favorite and sustainable tourist destination.
