Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of English textbooks for economics in aligning with the Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge (TPACK) framework, which integrates technology, pedagogy, and content knowledge to enhance language learning. Descriptive qualitative was applied in this study. The analysis focused on four English textbooks: Career Path: Banking, Career Path: Business English, General English Material for Economic Students, and English for Islamic Banking. The evaluation revealed several limitations in these textbooks, such as inadequate alignment with economic content, lack of clear target audience and instructional objectives, insufficient technology integration, and minimal opportunities for interactive and dynamic learning experiences. These deficiencies were found to delay the development of essential language skills, including grammar, pronunciation, and communication, which are crucial for academic and professional success in the field of economics and banking. Furthermore, the analysis highlighted the absence of diverse activities that connect language skills with real-world applications, limiting the students' ability to effectively apply their knowledge in relevant scenarios. The textbooks also lacked comprehensive instructional support for listening and writing skills, critical thinking, and digital literacy, which are vital components of a modern, technology-enhanced learning environment. The study suggests that a more tailored approach, incorporating the TPACK framework, is necessary to address these gaps. By fostering interactive and immersive learning experiences, future textbooks can better meet the specific needs of economics students, promote active participation, and enhance both linguistic competence and digital literacy skills in preparation for global economic challenges.

Abstract

EFL students do not only have linguistic problems but also psychological problems when learning English. The present study aims to describe psychological problems in speaking. This study is conducted under descriptive design. Participants in this study were 20 fifth-semester students of the English Education Department, Universitas PGRI Sumatera. The instrument used in this study is an online questionnaire. The findings indicate that although anxiety, shyness, lack of confidence, and fear of making mistakes are significant problems, respondents showed a generally neutral attitude toward these problems. However, the presence of these psychological barriers, coupled with a lack of motivation, suggests that targeted interventions are needed to improve English-speaking performance among respondents.

Abstract

Current Learning systems have enabled students to construct their knowledge by themselves. However, using various LMS will cause different learning situations and experiences for students in learning. This study investigates the effectiveness of Moodle-based learning activities in fostering self-regulated learning (SRL) among undergraduate students. The research was conducted over 8 weeks with 100 participants, employing a mixed-methods approach that included pre-and post-surveys, learning analytics, and qualitative data from focus groups and interviews. The findings reveal significant improvements in key SRL components: goal setting, self-monitoring, self-evaluation, and time management. Quantitative data from the Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaire (MSLQ) showed statistically significant gains across all SRL dimensions (p < 0.01). Learning analytics indicated that student engagement increased, reflected in doubled login frequency, a 33.3% rise in task completion rates, and a 66.7% increase in time spent on learning tasks. Qualitative data supported these results, highlighting the positive impact of Moodle’s tools on students' autonomy, motivation, and reflective learning practices. The study concludes that Moodle-based activities can effectively promote SRL by providing structured, interactive, and reflective learning experiences. Recommendations are made for educators to integrate diverse Moodle activities that target different SRL components and for institutions to provide continuous support and infrastructure improvements.

Abstract

The is a part of research and development of a learning model that emphasizes a combination of discovery learning and group learning to develop 21st century skills in learning Indonesian for senior high school students, called the Group-Discovery Learning model. This research begins with the needs and context analysis, literature review, and conceptual theory development. This type of research is quantitative. The research data was obtained by conducting interviews with 12 teachers and distributing questionnaires to 112 students from two schools (SMAN 7 Padang and SMAN 8 Padang). Data about the problems commonly faced by students and teachers as well as their needs to improve the 21st century skills in the Indonesian language learning process in high schools were obtained. The results of the needs and context analysis show that the competence of 21st century students is still relatively low in learning Indonesian, but has great potential. The literature review revealed that the Group-Discovery Learning model can improve students' critical thinking, creative thinking, collaboration, and communication. Also, it can gain overall knowledge. These findings indicate that the development of the Group-Discovery Learning model can be a solution in accommodating high school students to develop 21st century skills in learning Indonesian.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the development needs of an e-LKPD assisted by the Live-Worksheets platform in reading and viewing lessons at SMA Negeri 2 Padang. The research method used is qualitative descriptive, focusing on the define phase in the 4-D development model. The research subjects consist of teachers and eleventh-grade students, with primary data collected through semi-structured interviews, student learning style questionnaires, and secondary data through documentation study. Data analysis techniques follow Creswell’s (2016) stages: data reduction, data presentation, and data verification. The results show that printed LKPD is still monotonous and lacks interactivity, not supporting the development of students' critical thinking and digital literacy skills. The student learning style questionnaire reveals a variety of preferences that are not fully accommodated by the printed LKPD. Students are more motivated by interactive features, multimedia, and automatic feedback found in the e-LKPD Live-Worksheets. This study also highlights the need for activities that support intensive reading skills and visual analysis, such as evaluating news accuracy and understanding visual elements in media. The integration of e-LKPD Live-Worksheets can enhance learning effectiveness, student engagement, as well as the development of critical thinking and digital literacy skills, taking into account diverse learning styles.

Abstract

Good reading ability is a fundamental skill in learning Indonesian, especially in understanding, analyzing, and evaluating scientific texts critically. However, various studies show that many students still have difficulty in understanding the structure, meaning, and content of the text in depth, which has an impact on their low analytical skills. Therefore, an innovative learning model is needed that can improve reading skills effectively, one of which is through the application of Multiliteracy Integrative Learning (MULGRANING). Using a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental method, this study applied a one-group pre-test post-test design to 34 grade XI students at SMAN 2 Padang. The experimental class using the MULGRANING model was implemented with eight steps, namely experiencing, conceptualizing, analyzing, producing & creating, networking, applying, comparing, and synthesizing. While the control class was implemented with conventional learning. Data were collected through descriptive tests and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test in SPSS. The results showed that all students experienced an increase in reading scores after the MULGRANING model was applied. No students were found to have decreased scores or had the same pre-test and post-test scores. The Z value of -5.103 with a p-value of 0.000 indicates that this model is significantly effective in improving reading skills. These findings indicate that the MULGRANING model can be an innovative learning alternative to help students understand, analyze, and evaluate texts better. Therefore, the application of this model is recommended more widely to improve the quality of reading learning in secondary schools.

Integration of digital comics based on local culture is an innovative alternative to increase students' engagement and understanding of fantasy story texts. This study aims to explain the effectiveness of using digital comics based on local culture in learning to understand fantasy story texts. The method used is Research & Development (R&D) with the ADDIE development model, and product trials were conducted on class VII.E students of SMP Negeri 2 Padang with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The sample was selected based on the class with the lowest standard deviation. The results showed that there was a significant increase in students' understanding after using digital comics, as evidenced by the statistically significant difference in pretest and posttest scores. Digital comics have been shown to increase student engagement and overcome the limitations of conventional media. In conclusion, the use of digital comics based on local culture is effective in improving students' understanding of fantasy story texts. The results of this study indicate that innovation in technology-based learning media can be a solution to increase the effectiveness of Indonesian language learning in the digital era.
