Abstract

The Industrial Revolution 4.0 demands that higher education institutions adapt their curricula to produce graduates with essential skills in data literacy, technological literacy, and human literacy. This study aims to analyze the curriculum adjustments made by State University in Malang and Surabaya in the field of Economic Education. Using a literature review methodology, the study draws upon national and international journal articles to examine the design, implementation, and evaluation of the Economic Education curricula at both universities. The findings indicate that both institutions have successfully integrated innovative teaching methods and aligned their curricula with the principles of the Merdeka Belajar Kampus Merdeka (MBKM) initiative. This curriculum adaptation ensures that graduates are equipped with the necessary competencies to navigate and succeed in a rapidly evolving global economy. The research provides insight into the ongoing curriculum reform efforts and offers recommendations for future studies to evaluate the long-term impact of these changes on graduate employability and industry relevance.

Abstract

Word formation is the process of creating new words in a language, which can be influenced by historical events, cultural interactions, and contact with other languages. In this context, this study explores the historical and cultural factors that have shaped word formation in Indonesian and Malagasy, two languages from distinct linguistic and cultural contexts. The primary objective is to analyze how historical events, cultural exchanges, and contact with other languages have influenced the development of word formation processes in both languages. This study uses a qualitative approach using a documentation study to gather relevant textual data. Data collection involved reviewing historical records, linguistic texts, and scholarly articles, while data analysis was conducted through thematic analysis to identify patterns and influences on word formation. The findings reveal that both languages exhibit significant historical and cultural influences, such as colonialism and trade, which have contributed to the introduction of loanwords and new word-formation strategies. In conclusion, the study highlights the role of historical and cultural contexts in shaping the evolution of language and provides insights into the interplay between linguistic structures and societal influences in both Indonesian and Malagasy.

Abstract

Numeracy and science literacy are essential competencies in navigating the increasingly complex global era. In this context, proficiency in English as an international language serves as a strategic advantage, enabling broader access to high-quality learning resources. This research-based community service aims to improve numeracy and science literacy among students at Pondok Pesantren in Pekalongan, by integrating English-based learning resources used service learning approach.. The program was introduced to improve students' readiness to face global challenges, focusing on strengthening their understanding of numeracy and science through English-based learning materials. This study evaluates the effectiveness of the program using statistically analyzed pretest and posttest data. The results showed an increase in mean score from pretest (5.44) to posttest (7.67), but statistical analysis showed that this increase was not significant. The normality test confirmed that the data distribution was normally distributed, which allowed the use of parametric statistical methods. The paired samples t-test showed no significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (p-value = 0.093). However, the effect size analysis showed a moderate effect (Cohen's d = 0.636, Hedges' g = 0.606), which suggested that the program made a meaningful impact, although not statistically significant. These results suggest that although the program has potential, it needs improvements such as longer duration, larger sample size, and more effective teaching methods to achieve significant results. The study concludes that integrating English literacy with numeracy and science education has the potential to prepare students for global challenges, and the program can be further developed with stronger implementation strategies.

Abstract

Garbage has various categories so it needs to be sorted to make it easier to sort according to its benefits. However, waste sorting is very difficult to implement for some people including in the school environment. Therefore, the objective of this study was to test the effects of visual prompt on waste sorting behavior among students in selected secondary schools in Lagos, Nigeria. Quasi-experimental design was adopted while visual prompt was manipulated at three levels of word, picture and word+ picture to obtain data on waste sorting behavior among 240participants. Data collected were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics to test one hypothesis which was accepted at p <.001 level of significance. The result demonstrated that picture was the most effective visual prompt that improved waste sorting behavior followed by word + picture prompt and then word prompt compared to the control group. The study concluded that visual prompt improved waste sorting behavior. The novelty of this study is that it is the first time effects of visual prompt on waste sorting behavior is studied using quasi-experimental design in Nigerian schools. The study recommended that school authority and other stakeholders’ interested in solid waste management should design appropriate visual prompts to encourage waste sorting activities in their school environments.

Abstract

According to PISA 2022, the level of scientific literacy among students in Indonesia is considered low. One contributing factor is the lack of contextual learning in science education. In line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 4 (Quality Education), it is essential to ensure the provision of relevant education that is connected to real-life experiences. One way to create contextual learning is by integrating local wisdom into the learning process. This study aims to explore the role of Patil Lele as a form of local wisdom in enhancing students' scientific literacy. The research method used is a literature review. Data were collected by reviewing five previous studies related to the application of local wisdom in physics education. The collected data were analyzed using the principles of organization, synthesis, and identification. The findings reveal that Patil Lele can serve as an interactive learning medium, support students in understanding the relationships between physical quantities in real contexts, and provide opportunities to practice decision-making and problem-solving based on physics concepts. Therefore, it can be concluded that the integration of patil lele as a local wisdom approach plays a significant and positive role in improving students' scientific literacy.
