Abstract

Fish silage is a semi-liquid product of fish preservatives with the addition of lactic acid, to change the fermentation process that converts carbohydrate sources into acids. Silage can be processed using lactic acid bacteria (LAB). The lactic acid bacteria used in this study were sourced from palm sap isolates. Lactic acid bacteria are a type of beneficial non-pathogenic bacteria that are very helpful in the fermentation process of feed and food ingredients. To determine the effect of adding 10% LAB concentration combined with corn flour and urea on the quality of fish silage and to compare the quality of fish silage based on various aspects of sensory evaluation, namely (aroma, texture, color) and the degree of fish silage. The stages of implementing this research include sampling, making fish silage, fermentation and organoleptic testing and testing the degree of storage. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the results of the organoleptic tests carried out showed that the fish silage produced was of good quality which was characterized by an acidic silage aroma, a silage texture that was not lumpy and not too soft, and an increase in the color of brown silage. The results of the study that the addition of 10% LAB combined with ground maize and urea gave a significantly different effect (P<0.05) on the quality of fish silage. Combined use of fish silage will affect the pH of the silage.

Abstract

Pig is one of the livestock commodities that is used to fulfill animal protein needs because it has a high percentage of carcass. In pig farming industrial, there are various problems, one of which is African Swine Fever which is very infectious and can cause sudden death on a large scale in an endemic area. Various efforts have been made, one of which is developing a vaccine against African Swine Fever. Vaccines are antigens in the form of microorganisms that are dead, still alive but attenuated, still intact or parts of which have been processed, in the form of toxin microorganisms that have been processed into toxoids, recombinant proteins. This literature review aims to determine the development and effectiveness of vaccines in controlling the incidence of African Swine Fever. This literature study was obtained from searching and collecting from various reference sources using the Mendeley and Google Scholar applications. Based on a review of literature studies with literature, it was found that until now no vaccine has been found that can induce the formation of antibodies against African Swine Fever, but the type of vaccine is a live attenuated virus which has enormous potential to be developed into a vaccine because it is able to provide protection against homologous virus strains but still being developed to be able to provide cross-protection against heterologous viral strains.

Abstract

This study aims to determine and identify the effect of variations in the age of broiler eggs on the physical and microbiological quality of eggs as well as the state of hygiene and sanitation at the traditional market for selling eggs in Kupang City (Pasar Kasih-Naikoten 1, Pasar Oeba, Oebobo Market, Oesapa Market, and Pasar Oesapa). Penfui). The samples used in this study were 68 respondents and 68 samples of broiler eggs. Data were analyzed descriptively. Variations in egg age are divided into producers and distributors. Physical quality parameters observed were egg weight, egg yolk index, egg white index, Haugh Unit, and pH. The microbiological quality parameter observed was the amount of microbial contamination in eggs. The results of the physical and microbiological quality test of eggs from producers have a better value than distributors because the age of eggs from producers is younger than distributors. The effect of variations in egg age on physical and microbiological quality showed that the longer the age of the eggs, the egg weight, egg white index, yolk index and Haugh Unit decreased. Meanwhile, the longer the age of the eggs, the pH and the amount of microbial contamination will increase. Of the five markets where samples were taken, eggs in the Oebobo Market that came from producers had a shorter egg age variation so that the results of the physical quality test (meets all 6 parameters) and microbiological (1.8x104 cfu/gr) were the best. Meanwhile, hygiene and sanitation factors are more at risk of affecting the microbiological quality of eggs. The hygiene and sanitation of broiler eggs in the Kupang City Traditional Market is quite low due to the lack of information on handling good hygiene and sanitation for broiler egg traders.

Abstract

Castration or orchiectomy is a surgical procedure performed on the testes, in the form of taking or cutting the testicles from the body. The purpose of this study was to determine the minimum age, castration technique and the advantages and disadvantages of castration in pigs. This literature study was obtained from searching and collecting various sources from Google Scholar by using the Mendeley application. Based on the results of the study, castration in pigs is more effective in cattle aged between 3-6 weeks of age because it affects growth, food conversion coefficient and carcass quality, and also metabolic and growth rate. The purpose of carrying out castration on pigs is to prevent unpleasant odors and tastes, support efforts to fatten male animals, produce high quality meat and reduce aggressive levels in male pigs. Castration techniques that can be used in pigs are open castration and immunocastration. The most common castration technique for pigs is the open castration technique or surgical castration technique. There is a new castration technique called immunocastration, which is a castration technique that involves injecting protein chemical compounds to induce the production of antibodies to gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH). However, in this technique none of the chemical products used are licensed in the European Union and the consequences (consumer safety and animal welfare) have not been fully evaluated.
