Abstract

The purpose of this community service activity is to educate the community, especially housewives, on how to turn household waste into useful materials. With the knowledge provided, the participants are expected to be able to implement the knowledge in their daily actions. So that as members of the community, we can participate in environmental conservation efforts. In addition, the use of compost from organic or household waste can also be a new source of income for housewives by selling compost to friends or family in need. The use of compost also reduces the use of chemical fertilizers, which means that we have contributed to a healthier and more sustainable environment. The evaluation results of this activity showed a positive response from the participants. The questionnaire results showed that 76.67% were very interested in making compost at home. The participants plan to start creating their own composers soon (66.67%) and 93.3% want further activities.

Abstract

The training on using the Mendeley application for Public Administration students at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Universitas Pattimura, aims to enhance skills in managing references and citations systematically. The main issue faced by students is the difficulty in organizing references structurally and the risk of citation errors that can affect academic quality. This activity includes preparation, material delivery, and hands-on practice using the Mendeley application. The training is based on the Theory of Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), which explains how technology adoption can influence its effectiveness. The results show that students can manage references more systematically and gain confidence in writing academic papers, including final assignments. Moreover, the training positively contributes to improving the overall academic quality on campus. Beyond teaching the technical aspects of using the application, this training also raises students' awareness of the importance of academic ethics in reference management. Thus, this training serves as a strategic step to prepare students for academic challenges while promoting a stronger culture of scientific writing.

Abstract

The low literacy ability of Indonesian children is the responsibility of all parties. In simple terms, Literacy can be interpreted as skills in writing and reading. Low reading ability is influenced by access to difficult books and very limited ownership of reading books. The condition of low reading literacy of Indonesian children was then summarized in an Anthology book entitled "Jejak Juang Laskar Literasi" by alumni education volunteers of the Indonesian Literacy School Program and Gemari Baca Dompet Dhuafa. ALUSIA collaborated with academics from Teuku Umar University and literacy activists to review the book.  The method is carried out in the form of a talk show with a narrative model directly through Instagram social media. The recorded audience until December 2024 is 316 spectators. The theme raised was "Literacy at the fingertips, reading campaign for all".  The audience's response during the narration activity was good, which was measured by the enthusiasm of the audience asking questions and commenting in the comment column during the event, and also the number of spectators that continued to increase every day. This narrative activity is a form of community service as an effort to invite readers from all walks of life so that the literacy of Indonesian children increases.

Abstract

The reluctance of the community to dispose of waste at the Final Disposal Site (TPA) becomes an obstacle to effective urban waste management. The accumulation of waste over time can lead to water pollution problems. One waste management method is composting. Compost is a biodegradable substance that can retain moisture while decomposing in the air and under sunlight. The basic principle of composting technology is based on the natural decomposition process of organic materials. To address this issue, Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC) can be used. POC is a liquid fertilizer made from various organic materials, such as plants and food scraps. Waste and residues in the body will decompose anaerobically (without oxygen) without the help of sunlight. This activity was carried out at the Pohroh City Hall, Meureudu Subdistrict, Pidie Jaya Regency, on June 8, 2023. The program aims to educate the surrounding community that household waste, such as vegetable waste and rice washing water, can be utilized as liquid fertilizer, which plays an important role in tree planting. This community service was conducted at the Pohroh Village Hall, Meureudu Subdistrict, Pidie Jaya Regency. The production of liquid organic fertilizer (POC) from household waste begins with making a sample using simple tools and materials, such as a bucket, sieve, 1.5-liter mineral water bottle, sugar, rice washing water, vegetable/fruit waste water, and EM4. The success of POC production can be seen from the presence of white spots on the surface, a yellow-brown color, and a scent resembling fermented rice, but without a foul odor. Through education on household waste management, it is hoped that it will increase the community's knowledge, understanding, and innovation in managing household waste.

Abstract

The spread of hoax information in Indonesia has recently increased, causing concern, especially with the ease of accessing information through various media, with social media being the primary platform for its dissemination. The active users of social media are mostly teenagers, particularly students, who are accustomed to commenting, sharing, and providing critiques on these platforms. Often, the information shared is not verified for its source, and as long as it goes viral, it is quickly spread to others. This habit can lead to the spread of unverified hoaxes, which can have negative impacts such as psychological attacks, bullying, and legal consequences for hoax spreaders under the ITE Law. Based on this issue, we conducted a community service activity using socialization and discussions about the dangers of hoax dissemination and how to anticipate them among students. The event held at SMA 2 Meulaboh went well and solemnly. The results of this activity showed that many students are still unaware of the dangers of spreading hoax information. Therefore, this initiative provided a deeper understanding, with the hope that students will become more cautious and able to filter the information circulating, especially from unknown sources.
