Abstract

Cardiovascular disease includes several heart and cardiovascular problems. One in three deaths in the world is caused by heart disease. Handling and preventing deaths from cardiovascular disease needs to be improved. Flavonoids are phytochemicals commonly found in plants. Quercetin is one of the most common flavonoids. Quercetin is also known to have potential as an alternative intervention for people with heart disease. Therefore, the positive impact of quercetin on cardiovascular disease needs to be reviewed. This article uses a literature review method by reviewing articles from the last ten years (2014–2024) through trusted websites. The results of the study show a link between quercetin, cardiovascular disease, and the dose administered. It can be concluded that quercetin has a strong antioxidant effect, which can overall overcome and prevent cardiovascular disease.

Abstract

Diabetes Mellitus (DM) is a chronic disease that requires long-term adherence to treatment. One of the main challenges in managing type 2 DM is the low level of patient adherence to medication. This literature review aims to analyze the effect of health education on improving patients’ knowledge and medication adherence. The review is based on selected scientific articles that discuss the relationship between education, knowledge, and adherence in patients with DM. Findings indicate that health education-delivered through counseling, printed media, self-instructional modules, or home visits—generally improves patients’ understanding of the disease and the importance of regular treatment. This increase in knowledge contributes to better health behavior, particularly in terms of medication compliance. Interactive educational methods that involve healthcare providers and patient families are more effective than one-way communication approaches. Structured and continuous education tailored to patient characteristics has the potential to significantly enhance disease management. Therefore, health education should be prioritized as a key strategy to improve treatment adherence and prevent long-term complications in patients with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Hypertension is a condition marked by elevated blood pressure, increasing risks of morbidity and mortality. Non-pharmacological treatments such as Tera exercise and acupressure therapy at the Taichong point offer alternative interventions. Tera exercise combines breathing techniques and body movements to reduce anxiety and promote vasodilation, thereby lowering blood pressure. Acupressure at the Taichong point facilitates energy flow, also contributing to blood pressure reduction. This study aims to compare the effectiveness of Tera exercise and Taichong point acupressure in lowering blood pressure among hypertensive patients. A two-group pre-post design was employed with a sample of 44 respondents selected through purposive sampling. Blood pressure data were collected using observation sheets. In the Tera exercise group (n=22), the average systolic pressure decreased from 148.77 mmHg to 143.77 mmHg, and diastolic pressure from 88.00 mmHg to 83.00 mmHg. In the acupressure group (n=22), systolic pressure reduced from 153.36 mmHg to 147.50 mmHg, and diastolic from 92.86 mmHg to 84.00 mmHg. Paired t-test analysis showed a significant difference (p-value = 0.000 < α = 0.05), indicating that acupressure therapy at the Taichong point is more effective in reducing blood pressure. This study concludes that while both therapies are effective, acupressure yields greater reductions and is recommended as a non-pharmacological treatment for hypertension in Trading Village, Tiris District, Probolinggo Regency.

Abstract

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a complex endocrine disorder affecting reproductive-age women and is closely associated with metabolic disturbances such as overweight and insulin resistance. More than 50% of women with PCOS are overweight, which exacerbates ovulatory dysfunction and increases androgen levels. Insulin resistance, found in approximately 50% of PCOS patients—even those with normal body weight—triggers hyperinsulinemia that stimulates androgen production and suppresses ovulation. This study aims to analyze the contribution of overweight and insulin resistance to the development of PCOS through a literature review approach. Scientific articles were retrieved from databases such as PubMed and Google Scholar, focusing on publications from the last five years. The findings indicate that overweight and insulin resistance mutually reinforce hormonal and ovulatory dysfunction typical in PCOS patients. Recent studies show that higher body mass index (BMI) and elevated HOMA-IR levels are strongly associated with menstrual irregularities, hyperandrogenism, and reduced quality of life. In conclusion, overweight and insulin resistance are two major contributing factors to PCOS pathogenesis and influence reproductive success. Clinical management should consider a comprehensive approach targeting both factors through lifestyle interventions and pharmacological therapy.

Abstract

Menarche is the first menstruation which usually occurs between the ages of 10-16 years. The arrival of the first menstruation makes teenagers feel unprepared and unable to face menarche due to a lack of knowledge and practice during menstruation. So in this case health education using the LAICEF method is needed. This research aims to determine the effect of health education using the LAICEF method on the readiness and ability to face menarche in grade 5 and 6 female students at Wangkal II Elementary School. This research is a pre-experimental design with a one-group pre-post test approach. The population was 25 female respondents from Wangkal II Elementary School, the 25 samples studied were taken using Total Sampling. The instrument used questionnaire through a process of editing, coding, scoring and tabulating. The data obtained from this research was analyzed using the Wilcoxon Test. The results of this research showed readiness and ability to face menarche during pre-post. The majority of respondents showing readiness results in the pretest were in the poor category, as many as 14 respondents (56%). In the post test data, the majority in the sufficient category were 12 respondents (48%). Meanwhile, the majority of abilities in the pretest were in the poor category, 17 respondents (68%). The majority of post test data were in the sufficient category, 16 respondents (64%). The results of the Wilcoxon test obtained a p value: 0.000 <0.05. This shows that there is an influence of health education using the PAIKEM method on the readiness and ability to face menarche in grade 5 and 6 female students at Wangkal II Public Elementary School. Health education using the LAICEF method can develop female students' innovation and creativity so that providing education on readiness and ability to face menarche can be effective and enjoyable for female students, and female students are not burdened by ongoing learning.

Abstract

Chronic inflammation is a major contributing factor to the development of degenerative diseases such as diabetes, cancer, and cardiovascular disorders. This literature review aims to examine the anti-inflammatory potential of sea cucumber (Holothuria scabra) based on five recent experimental studies. The findings indicate that H. scabra effectively suppresses the production of pro-inflammatory mediators such as NO, iNOS, PGE₂, IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6, and inhibits key signaling pathways including NF-κB and JNK. Moreover, active compounds such as scabraside and holothurinoside G demonstrate the ability to inhibit KEAP1, thereby activating the Nrf2 pathway involved in cellular protection against oxidative stress. Evidence from in vivo study also shows H. scabra’s capability to reduce tissue lesions caused by inflammation. Therefore, H. scabra holds great promise as a natural anti-inflammatory agent for the prevention and treatment of chronic inflammatory conditions.

Abstract

Thermohygrometer is a tool that functions to measure room temperature and humidity. The temperature and humidity in the operating room are set in the temperature range of 19˚C - 24˚C and humidity of 45% - 65%. Therefore, the operating room requires a good temperature and humidity control system to avoid damage to electronic components due to temperatures that are too low and humidity that is too high which causes corrosion. In addition, the influence of high concentrations of medical gas accelerates the rate of corrosion. Because medical gas consisting of CO and CO₂ gas contains oxygen as an oxidant gas. Therefore, a tool such as a Thermohygrometer is needed but equipped with a medical gas reading. This tool aims to read the conditions of temperature, humidity, and medical gas (CO & CO₂) so that it can be analyzed by Electromedics to regulate the air conditioning system. In addition, a Thermohygrometer system is made to allow data access from outside the operating room. The Thermhygrometer tool is made using two sensors, namely DHT22 and MQ-135. DHT22 is used to read temperature and humidity parameters, while the MQ-135 sensor is used to read the concentration of CO and CO₂ gases. The reading results are displayed on the I2C LCD screen. The components are integrated with ESP32 for data processing and as hardware that can be used to create a WiFi connection system. WiFi connectivity is needed to send data to the Blynk application. Testing by calibrating the DHT22 sensor and testing the suitability of the MQ-135 sensor with the gas analyzer. Based on the tests carried out, the temperature error value was obtained at -0.02% and humidity at -0.02%. While the error value was 0.32% for CO gas and -0.16% for CO₂ gas. The error value is still within the tolerance limit

Abstract

The obesity rate among adolescents in Indonesia is increasingly worrying. Obesity in adolescents is affected by a variety of factors, including lifestyle changes that tend to lead to an unhealthy diet and lack of physical activity. To overcome this problem, early prevention efforts are very important, one of which is by measuring Body Mass Index (BMI) as an early indicator of obesity. This research uses a Research and Development (RnD) approach, which aims to develop or improve existing tools to obtain new data and insights into the use of these tools in various contexts. This tool is a development of the previous tool with the HC SR04 sensor to measure height, the Load Cell sensor to measure weight, and the Atmega328p microcontroller to calculate BMI. The main innovation of the tool is the use of a 433 MHz Radio Frequency module that allows wireless communication between height and weight data, increasing the mobility of the tool as it does not require cables and poles as a support. With the result of an error value in the IMT measurement of 1,28%. With an error value of 1.28% in BMI measurements and 93.40% in BMI measurement validity. So from the results of the above percentage, it can be stated that this tool is suitable for use.

Abstract

The Covid-19 virus emerged in late 2019 in Wuhan, China, rapidly spreading to over 190 countries worldwide. Governments implemented various measures, including body temperature checks as an initial step in detecting Covid-19 symptoms. However, manual body temperature measurement using a thermogun has limitations due to direct contact. Therefore, this research develops an automatic, contactless body temperature monitoring system based on Arduino Uno to improve efficiency and reduce physical contact. The system uses an HC-SR04 ultrasonic sensor as a distance limiter for temperature measurement, an MLX-90614 infrared temperature sensor for detecting body temperature, and an Arduino Uno to process data displayed on an LCD in degrees Celsius, with a buzzer as a notification indicator. The test results show that this system achieves a body temperature measurement accuracy of 99.53%, producing results close to the reference device when the object and sensor are within a 1–5 cm range and aligned in a parallel position.

Abstract

Propionibacterium acnes is an anaerobic bacteria that plays an important role in dermatological research, especially in the context of skin diseases such as acne vulgaris. This study aims to optimize the growth conditions of Propionibacterium acnes in sodium media in order to increase the effectiveness of bacterial culture on a laboratory scale. The parameters tested include media pH, sodium concentration, incubation temperature, and incubation time. The research method was carried out systematically and controlled with a completely randomized design using several environmental condition treatments. The results showed that optimal growth of Propionibacterium acnes was achieved in media with a pH of 6.5–7.0, a sodium concentration of 1.5%, an incubation temperature of 37°C, and an incubation time of 72 hours in conditions without oxygen (anaerobic). By knowing the right conditions, Propionibacterium acnes bacteria can grow faster and optimally, so that it can help in dermatological research or product development related to skin health.
