Abstract

The consolidation process that emerged as a reaction to the 1997-1998 financial crisis led various banks to adopt international expansion strategies to broaden their operational reach. Evidence of globalization in the banking sector is the disappearance of boundaries, which allows foreign funds to flow in and out of a country easily. This study aims to examine the effect of the foreign banks presence on banking competition within that country. The presence of foreign banks is measured using a dummy variable and the percentage of foreign ownership. The research was using 543 conventional commercial banks sample in 10 Asian emerging market countries. Sampling was carried out using the purposive sampling method and hypothesis testing was performed using the Ordinary Least Squares (OLS) robust standard error method. The results show that the presence of foreign banks has a positive effect on the level of competition in the host country. The higher the level of presence and foreign ownership, the higher the level of banking competition in that country.

Abstract

In every manufacturing business activity, policies that must be implemented properly are generally considered, such as inventory management, to minimize costs and minimize profits. Therefore, inventory forecasting is necessary to estimate production needs. However, in reality, the Gunungsitoli PLKT Business has not yet implemented inventory forecasting. The purchase of raw materials does not match raw material usage, resulting in a shortage of required inventory. This makes the business overwhelmed in making repeat purchases, coupled with limited raw material suppliers and low profits. The purpose of this study is to determine and analyze the forecasting of raw material inventory needs using the time series method in the PLKT Business, as well as to determine and be able to maximize raw material inventory to achieve the expected profit. The type of research used in this study is quantitative research based on data on the use of raw materials, in this case Simalambuo wood, in the PLKT Business for the period January 2024 – July 2025. The methods used for time series model forecasting are the moving average and exponential smoothing methods. From the forecasting results using the moving average method, it was obtained that for forecasting wood raw material inventory with an MSE (Mean Squared Error) error value of 30.36. While the forecasting results using the exponential smoothing method were obtained that for forecasting wood raw material inventory with an MSE (Mean Squared Error) error value of 29.21 for α = 0.1, an MSE (Mean Squared Error) error value of 36.92 for α = 0.5, and an MSE (Mean Squared Error) error value of 50.70 for α = 0.9. So, the smallest forecasting error value is the exponential smoothing method with α = 0.1 and is highly recommended for PLKT Business because it is very suitable and precise, in addition, by carrying out inventory forecasting it helps businesses to save raw material inventory as much as 32 m^3 from the remaining use of raw materials and can maximize it in the storage warehouse so that there is no shortage in the coming month. This also resulted in a significant increase in operating profit of Rp. 132,000,000.00 from the COGS calculation after forecasting was carried out.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of consumer behavior factors—including cultural, social, personal, and psychological aspects—on purchasing decisions at Quinsha Bakery Gunungsitoli. The problem addressed in this research stems from increasing business competition in the bakery industry, which demands a deeper understanding of consumer behavior. This quantitative research involved data collection through questionnaires distributed to 96 respondents. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression with SPSS version 27. The results indicate that all four consumer behavior factors have a significant influence on purchasing decisions when tested simultaneously. However, partially, only social and personal factors have a significant impact on purchasing decisions. Cultural and psychological factors do not show a significant individual influence. These findings suggest that marketing strategies should focus more on social and personal approaches, such as lifestyle, social status, and occupation. The study concludes that identifying dominant consumer behavior factors is essential for developing effective marketing strategies and maintaining customer loyalty.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the widespread circulation of illegal cigarettes in local markets and distribution challenges in remote areas, which have led to declining sales of legal products such as Surya Coklat 16 cigarettes. The objective of this study is to analyze the influence of price and distribution channels on the purchasing decision of Surya Coklat 16 cigarettes at CV. Pasifik Ganisigaret in Gunungsitoli City. This research employs a quantitative approach with an associative method. Data were collected through questionnaires distributed to 35 respondents, using a Likert scale as the measurement tool. Data analysis involved validity and reliability tests, multiple linear regression, t-tests, and F-tests using SPSS version 25. The results showed that all items were valid and reliable. The multiple correlation coefficient of 0.887 indicates a very strong relationship between price and distribution channels with purchasing decisions. The obtained regression equation is Y = 14.528 + 0.476X₁ + 0.195X₂, with a coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.786, indicating that 78.6% of the variation in purchasing decisions is explained by the two independent variables. Partially, price has a significant and more dominant influence than distribution channels. Simultaneously, both variables significantly influence purchasing decisions. These findings are expected to serve as a useful reference for the company in developing more competitive and adaptive marketing strategies amidst the rise of illegal cigarette products.
