Abstract

The simultaneous general elections (Pemilu) and regional elections (Pemilukada) of 2024 in Banten Province present a clear democratic irony: the quantitative increase of legislative candidates from 85 to 100 seats has not been matched by a corresponding growth in their political awareness. This study aims to analyze the level of political awareness among legislative candidates (caleg) in Banten Province and the adaptive strategies they employ in response to structural challenges in the 2024 electoral contest. A qualitative approach utilizing a case study method was employed to explore this phenomenon in depth. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis of 12 candidate informants from various political parties across the Millennial and Gen Z generations, selected through purposive sampling in Serang City, Banten Province. Data were analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model, validated through source and technique triangulation. The findings reveal two dominant structural challenges: the hegemony of high cost politics that marginalizes intellectual capital, and a political awareness deficit at both the candidate and voter levels. Conversely, adaptive strategies were identified, including social media utilization as a low-cost campaign instrument, local wisdom approaches, and religious symbolism. This study concludes that enhancing political awareness requires a fundamental transformation in the role of political parties, from mere electoral vehicles to substantive political education institutions through structured and sustained mentoring and cadre development.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate the effect of the Listen-Read-Discuss (LRD) strategy on eighth-grade students' reading comprehension of recount text. Despite the importance of reading comprehension in English language learning, many junior high school students still struggle with understanding recount texts, particularly in identifying main ideas, detail information, and vocabulary. This study employed a pre-experimental design with one-group pretest-posttest involving 26 students of class VIII-A at SMP St. Fransiskus Asisi Pontianak. Data were collected through pre-test and post-test using 20 multiple-choice questions targeting three aspects of reading comprehension: main idea, detail information, and vocabulary. Statistical analysis using paired t-test revealed a significant increase in students' reading comprehension scores (t = 8.40, df = 25, p < 0.05). The mean score increased from 56.53 (pre-test) to 70.57 (post-test), with an improvement of 14.04 points. Furthermore, the effect size calculation yielded ES = 1.42, indicating a strong effect. These findings demonstrate that the LRD strategy significantly enhances students' reading comprehension of recount text through its sequential phases of listening, reading, and discussing, which build prior knowledge and promote collaborative learning.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

This study aims to enhance students’ speaking skills through the implementation of the storytelling method supported by digital storybooks based on local wisdom. Students’ low speaking ability in English learning was influenced by the limited use of teaching methods and learning media that were less engaging and not contextualized with their real-life environment at SMP Negeri 1 Muara Batu. Storytelling was chosen as it promotes an active, communicative, and meaningful learning atmosphere, while digital storybooks incorporating local wisdom were used to increase students’ motivation and participation. The study employed qualitative and quantitative approaches using a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design conducted in two cycles, each consisting of planning, action, observation, and reflection. The participants were 30 students of class VIII Merdeka 1. Data were collected through speaking tests, observation sheets of students’ and teacher’s activities, and documentation. Speaking performance was assessed based on pronunciation, fluency, vocabulary, and meaning comprehension. The findings revealed a significant improvement in students’ speaking skills, with the average score increasing from 50.5 in Cycle I to 80.2 in Cycle II. Students’ learning activities and participation also improved from 60% to 78%. In addition, the teacher’s performance in implementing the storytelling method increased from 65% in Cycle I to 85% in Cycle II. These results indicate that storytelling supported by digital storybooks based on local wisdom is effective in improving students’ speaking skills.

Abstract

This study is motivated by students’ low level of mathematical conceptual understanding and the limited integration of adaptive technology in problem-based learning in the classroom. It aims to analyze the effect of Artificial Intelligence (AI)-assisted Problem-Based Learning (PBL) on high school students’ mathematical conceptual understanding. This research employs a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, specifically a pretest–posttest non-equivalent control group design. The sample consists of two classes: an experimental class implementing AI-assisted PBL and a control class using conventional PBL. Data were collected through a mathematical conceptual understanding test and analyzed using a t-test. The results indicate a significant difference between the two groups (p < 0.05), with the experimental group’s mean score (M = 76.2; SD = 5.2) higher than that of the control group (M = 69.5; SD = 6.1). These findings suggest that integrating AI into PBL is more effective in improving students’ mathematical conceptual understanding. The implications of this study highlight the importance of utilizing AI as cognitive scaffolding in problem-based learning to enhance the quality of mathematics instruction in a more adaptive and meaningful way.

Abstract

Learning motivation is a key factor in the success of Biology learning; however, it remains suboptimal among students in Indonesia, particularly in West Sulawesi. This study aims to analyze the Biology learning motivation of eleventh-grade students at SMAN 1 Tinambung based on the ARCS model (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, and Satisfaction). The study employed a quantitative descriptive approach. The sample consisted of 154 students selected using a total sampling technique. The instrument was an ARCS-based learning motivation questionnaire comprising 40 Likert-scale items that had been proven reliable. The results showed that students’ learning motivation was in the moderate category (mean = 3.10). The Relevance aspect obtained the highest score (3.35), while Confidence was the lowest (2.92). These findings indicate that students are able to understand the relevance of Biology to their daily lives; however, they still exhibit weaknesses in self-confidence and attention. Therefore, instructional strategies such as scaffolding, positive feedback, and varied teaching methods are needed to improve students’ learning motivation.

Abstract

Food is a basic human need guaranteed in the 1945 Constitution and is also regulated in Law Number 18 of 2012 concerning Food. Food-related challenges in Indonesia are still a major issue that requires serious attention, considering the increase in global food demand which is estimated to reach 70% by 2050 (FAO). Therefore, effective innovation and policies are needed to ensure the availability of quality and sustainable food. This research uses normative methods, with a legislative and conceptual approach to understand the laws related to food self-sufficiency. In addition to the Food Law, other regulations such as Law Number 11 of 2020 concerning Job Creation are also relevant legal basis. Sustainable food self-sufficiency is the government's commitment to realize food sovereignty and security in accordance with the mandate of the 1945 Constitution and the 2nd SDGs global agenda (Zero Hunger). Cooperation between consistent legal policies, technological innovations such as precision agriculture, and natural resource protection are key to achieving this goal. With strategic steps, Indonesia can realize food self-sufficiency that prospers the community and contributes to world food security. Keywords: optimization of law, sovereignty, food self-sufficiency.
