Abstract

This study aimed to identify the types of borrowing words, analyze their semantic changes, and explore the role of globalization in language adaptation as observed in two selected articles from BBC Indonesian. Using a qualitative descriptive method, the research analyzed data from two articles published in 2022, applying Hocket's theory (2013) to categorize borrowing words into loanwords, loan blends, and loan shifts, and Riemer's theory (2010) to classify semantic changes into specialization, generalization, amelioration, and pejoration. The findings revealed loan blends as the most common borrowing type, followed by loanwords and loan shifts. Generalization was the most frequent semantic change, with no instances of amelioration or pejoration. This study highlighted how BBC Indonesia, as a global media platform, integrated and adapted foreign words into Indonesian, contributing to the understanding of linguistic borrowing and its impact on the development of the Indonesian language.

Abstract

English speaking proficiency is an essential need for Informatics Engineering students, both for accessing literature, engaging in international collaboration, and preparing for careers in the global industry. However, learning motivation is often a major challenge due to low second-language exposure and rigid curricula. This article aims to systematically examine the effectiveness of Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT) integrated with the ARCS motivational model (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction) in enhancing motivation, engagement, and speaking confidence. A systematic literature review of 40 Scopus-indexed articles published between 2022 and 2026 was conducted through identification, screening, and thematic analysis stages. The findings show that TBLT consistently strengthens intrinsic and instrumental motivation, reduces speaking anxiety, and enhances self-efficacy, particularly when supported by adequate teacher training, a supportive classroom environment, and technology integration such as virtual reality (VR) and artificial intelligence (AI). Integrating the ARCS model into the TBLT task cycle strengthens learners' attention, relevance, confidence, and satisfaction. Nevertheless, systemic barriers such as rigid curricula, large classes, and limited facilities still constrain implementation effectiveness, particularly in the Indonesian higher education context. This article recommends strengthening lecturer training, aligning curricula with industry needs, and developing technology-based authentic tasks to optimize English learning motivation among Informatics Engineering students.

Abstract

The global halal industry has experienced rapid growth, creating an increasing need for the harmonization of halal standards across jurisdictions to facilitate international trade. However, differences in fiqh approaches, institutional authority, and legal systems have given rise to the dualism of halal standards. This normative juridical legal research aims to comprehensively analyze the normative framework of halal fatwas at the international level (Islamic International Fiqh Academy/IIFA and Standards and Metrology Institute for Islamic Countries/SMIIC), the national level in Indonesia (Indonesian Council of Ulama/MUI Fatwas and Law No. 33 of 2014 on Halal Product Assurance), and their implementation patterns at the regional level (the Provinces of West Nusa Tenggara and Bali). The findings indicate that there is no substantive theological contradiction between international and national halal fatwas, particularly concerning the use of modern technologies such as stunning in the slaughtering process. The observed dualism is primarily an institutional-juridical phenomenon arising from differences in legal binding force, namely between soft law and harmonization guidelines at the international level, a government-enforced public law system at the national level, and an expressive-devolutive implementation model at the regional level based on regional autonomy.

Abstract

The red chili pepper plant (Capsicum annuum L.) is a type of vegetable. Chili peppers are widely used by the public as a flavorful cooking ingredient. Given the steadily increasing demand for chili peppers, efforts are needed to boost their productivity. One such effort involves applying plant extracts that can promote chili plant growth. Papaya seeds (Carica papaya L.) contain secondary metabolites that can protect plants from pathogen attacks, thereby enhancing chili plant growth. The objectives of this study are to determine the effect of papaya seed water extract on the growth of red chili plants and to identify the optimal concentration of papaya seed water extract for enhancing chili plant growth. The experimental design used was a   Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with papaya seed extract (Carica papaya L.) as the treatment, consisting of four concentrations: 0%, 1%, 2%, and 3%, with six replicates. The parameters observed were the time of radicle emergence, plant height, fresh weight, and dry weight. The data were analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the BNJ test at the 5% level. The results showed that the best concentration was P4 (3%) for increasing radicula emergence, plant height, fresh weight, and dry weight.

Abstract

The use of skin-lightening creams, particularly among women, is on the rise. Some manufacturers incorporate hazardous substances, such as mercury (Hg), into these products because they can achieve a whitening effect at a low cost. This study was conducted to identify the mercury content in skin-lightening creams circulating in Bengkulu City. Samples were collected using purposive sampling—specifically, skin-lightening creams without BPOM registration numbers that are most frequently purchased in Bengkulu City. A total of four skin-lightening cream samples were analyzed. Qualitative analysis using a color test with a KI solution on all samples produced a reddish-orange precipitate, indicating a positive result for mercury. Mercury levels in the samples were measured using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, with the highest result found in Sample C at 39,130.4 mg/kg and the lowest in Sample A at 3,967.39 mg/kg. These results indicate that all samples contained mercury levels far exceeding the threshold limit (1 mg/L or 1 mg/kg) as stipulated in Law No. 12 of 2019.

Abstract

Determining all real roots of high-degree polynomials remains a challenge in numerical analysis, particularly when roots are adjacent or clustered. Conventional methods, such as Newton-Raphson, require precise initial guesses and tend to fail when roots are adjacent, often converging to only one dominant root. This study proposes an integration of three complementary methods for the simultaneous determination of all real roots of polynomials: (a) Cauchy Bound to automatically determine the search space, (b) Differential Evolution (DE) with a Niching mechanism for global exploration and simultaneous localization of all roots, and (c) Newton Polishing to enhance root accuracy. The Differential Evolution parameters employed are mutation factor F = 0.5 and crossover probability Cr = 0.9. The method was tested on three fifth-degree polynomials with distinct characteristics: large coefficients (P1), decimal coefficients (P2), and adjacent roots separated by 0.1 (P3). Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed method successfully identified all real roots of the three test polynomials in a single execution, without requiring multiple initial guesses. The average computation time was less than 5 seconds per polynomial. This integrated approach proves more effective than the conventional Newton-Raphson method, which requires initial guesses and remains prone to failure when roots are adjacent.

Abstract

Energy absorbers in railway vehicle crash zones should provide sufficient energy-absorption capacity while limiting the forces transmitted to the supporting structure. This study evaluates an array of thin-walled aluminium square tubes as an energy-absorbing module for a light urban rail vehicle at the component level. Seven configurations based on commercially available extrusions were evaluated analytically, followed by explicit dynamic finite-element analysis of the selected configuration. The design case used an equivalent mass of 9,000 kg and an initial velocity of 7.0 m/s, corresponding to an initial kinetic energy of 220.5 kJ. The screening process resulted in a configuration consisting of six 6063-T6 aluminium tubes with dimensions of 76.2 × 76.2 × 1.95 mm and a length of 964 mm. The single-tube simulation exhibited progressive folding with a peak crushing force of 68 kN and a mean crushing force of 35 kN, with the latter differing by 2.0% from the analytical prediction. For the six-tube configuration, the peak crushing force and mean crushing force were 402 kN and 208 kN, respectively, with a crush-force efficiency of 0.52. The module absorbed 150 kJ, corresponding to approximately 68% of the initial kinetic energy, and achieved a specific energy absorption of 16.5 kJ/kg. The results indicate that the proposed configuration has potential as an energy-absorbing component for urban rail vehicles. However, experimental validation, deformable supporting-structure modelling, and evaluation under non-axial impact conditions are required before its performance can be assessed at the full-vehicle level.

Abstract

The Bekasi Terminal area experiences acute urban issues, with temperatures reaching 36°C (urban heat island), routine flooding, intermodal conflicts, and damaged, non-inclusive sidewalks. This research aims to formulate a terminal design concept that integrates the values of Tawazun and Falah with the Human-Scale TOD and Green-Blue Infrastructure approach. A descriptive qualitative method is applied through urban design analysis (Lynch, Gehl, Jacobs), microclimate mapping (sun, wind, drainage), and public activity mapping on a 12-hectare site. The results formulate four strategies: continuous pedestrian networks that prioritize pedestrians; massive vegetation and wind corridors to lower temperatures; a natural drainage system (permeable pavement, biopores) to tackle flooding; and the integration of transportation modes to minimize conflicts. Through this framework, Bekasi Terminal transforms into a cool, green, and just urban node, while also serving as a prototype of Islamic-based sustainable urban development that can be replicated.
