Abstract

The phenomenon of the use of the Jolly Roger symbol, a pirate flag, in the anime One Piece by Indonesians during Independence Day in August 2025 gave rise to an interesting symbolic battle between representations of the people and the state. In this context, this article explores how popular cultural symbols can be used as a tool of visual resistance against state nationalism that is considered to be losing legitimacy, especially in the increasingly connected digital era. The Jolly Roger symbol, known as the pirate flag, is not only seen as a symbol of freedom in pop culture, but also as an expression of rejection of nationalist narratives that are considered "fake" or not representing the interests of the people. Using Roland Barthes's semiotic approach (denotation, connotation, myth) and Gramsci's and Stuart Hall's theories of cultural hegemony, this article analyzes the layered meanings of the Jolly Roger symbol in the Indonesian socio-political context. In this semiotic analysis, the symbol is understood not only as an image representing freedom or rebellion, but also as a tool to express dissatisfaction with narratives of independence and citizenship dominated by the state. Data obtained from social media posts (X/Twitter, TikTok, Instagram), memes, captions, and official statements were semiotically analyzed to see how this symbol is used to challenge the state's sole claim to the meaning of nationalism. The results show that this pirate symbol functions beyond aesthetic resistance; it also functions ideologically by creating space for alternative articulations of identity and nationhood. In a digital context, this symbol voices criticism of official narratives of independence and citizenship, opens up a crisis in existing hegemonic narratives, and creates a space for people to freely express their views and identities.

Abstract

This study discusses the importance of language and discourse in communication using the critical discourse analysis (AWK) of the Teun A. van Dijk model. The focus of the research is the lyrics of the Indonesian song by Rhoma Irama which is full of social criticism about inequality and the suffering of the people. This song was chosen because the lyrics reflect the social realities that occur in society and have strong ideological values. The research uses a qualitative descriptive method with the researcher as the main instrument. The primary data is in the form of song lyric texts, while secondary data is obtained from journals, scientific articles, and relevant online sources to strengthen the interpretation of the research. The analysis is carried out through two main aspects, namely the text aspect and the social context aspect. On the text aspect, the research examines macro, superstructure, and micro structures. The macro structure contains the theme of religious nationalism, which emphasizes the unity of the nation within the framework of moral values and religiosity. The structure of the superstructure shows a systematic pattern of lyrical presentation, starting from the depiction of social problems to the invitation to build collective consciousness. Meanwhile, the microstructure can be seen from the use of strong, emotional, and religious diction, thus strengthening the message of social criticism that is to be conveyed persuasively. In terms of social context, the results of the study show that Indonesian songs reflect the condition of a society that experiences domination of rulers and structural injustice. However, through its lyrics, the song also emphasizes the moral power of the people to drive social change, foster collective awareness, and voice resistance to ongoing injustice.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the significant role of digital literacy in enhancing students’ awareness of privacy as a preventive measure against doxing crimes, which remain a growing threat in the era of social media. Doxing, defined as the act of deliberately disclosing private information without consent, has increasingly targeted adolescent students who are active users of digital platforms. The research adopts a qualitative methodology with a descriptive-interpretive analysis and a phenomenological approach to deeply understand students’ experiences and perceptions. The findings illustrate that the level of students’ understanding regarding digital privacy, risky online behaviors, and preventive actions varies considerably. Digital education and literacy are shown to be effective in equipping students with the technical skills required to secure personal data and manage privacy settings on social media. In particular, students with higher exposure to digital literacy programs demonstrate better awareness of online threats and greater competence in identifying potential risks associated with doxing practices. Nevertheless, challenges persist. Peer pressure often influences adolescents to share excessive personal information online, undermining their privacy awareness. In addition, limitations in access to resources and the practical application of privacy-protection measures hinder students from fully implementing the knowledge they acquire. These barriers highlight the need for a more systematic and continuous approach to digital education. This study emphasizes that comprehensive digital literacy initiatives should not only focus on technical abilities but also foster a strong culture of privacy awareness. By doing so, students can be empowered to make responsible digital decisions, balance social interactions with personal security, and actively contribute to building a safer digital ecosystem. Overall, the research contributes to formulating strategies aimed at reducing the prevalence of doxing crimes by strengthening digital competencies and cultivating privacy-conscious behavior among adolescents.

Abstract

People tend to communicate their ideas, opinion, and views through writing. However, in English language learning context in Indonesia, writing is usually thought as the most challenging skill to be mastered. As language facilitator, teacher has to be able to provide the students with teaching strategy that can assist them to master writing skill. A quasi-factorial design was aimed at investigating the effect of indirect corrective feedback on students’ writing accuracy viewed from the different level of students’ grammatical sensitivity. There were control and experimental group. The experimental group was exposed to the use of indirect corrective feedback, while control group was exposed to the use of direct corrective feedback. Independent T-Test and Two-way ANOVA were used to test the hypotheses. The study revealed that there was significance difference on writing accuracy between the experimental and control group. Students with high level of grammatical sensitivity got higher mean score than the lower students. There was no interaction between indirect corrective feedback on writing accuracy and students’ level of grammatical sensitivity. It is recommended to the English teacher to use indirect corrective feedback to assist the students’ learning on writing.

Abstract

This study is entitled “Development of Pop Up Book Media Based on Tanjungbalai Folktales to Improve Reading Comprehension Skills of 4th Grade Elementary School Students.” The study aims to design and develop Pop Up Book media based on Tanjungbalai folktales and to evaluate its validity, practicality, and effectiveness in enhancing the reading comprehension skills of 4th-grade students. The theoretical foundation emphasizes the importance of using engaging and contextual visual media to support students’ reading comprehension. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) method with the ADDIE approach. Data were collected through observations, interviews, validation questionnaires from material experts, media experts, and language experts, as well as pre-tests and post-tests. The results showed that the Pop Up Book media was assessed as “very valid” by three validators, with an average score of 89.68%. Meanwhile, feedback from educators and students categorized the media as “very practical,” with an average score of 96.48%. The effectiveness of the media was demonstrated by an increase in students’ reading comprehension skills, with an N-Gain score of 0.93. It is recommended that teachers use Pop Up Book media as an engaging and contextual learning alternative. Future researchers are encouraged to develop similar media using folktales from other regions.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate the effect of zigzag training on dribbling skills using the inside of the foot among ninth-grade students at SMP IP Baitussalam Kuningan. The research problem arises from the importance of dribbling as one of the fundamental techniques in football that students are required to master. The research employed an experimental method with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 15 students selected through purposive sampling based on specific criteria, including active participation in physical education classes and involvement in extracurricular football activities. The research instrument was a dribbling skill test conducted in two stages: the pre-test, administered before the treatment, and the post-test, carried out after students completed ten training sessions of zigzag exercises. Data analysis using the paired sample t-test revealed a significant difference between pre-test and post-test results. The obtained Sig. (2-tailed) value was 0.000 (< 0.05), indicating that the research hypothesis was accepted. These results demonstrate that zigzag training has a significant positive effect on improving dribbling skills using the inside of the foot. Moreover, the training also enhanced students’ agility, speed, and ball control. The findings highlight that structured and varied training methods can provide more optimal outcomes in the learning process of basic football skills. Therefore, zigzag training can serve as an effective and applicable alternative method in physical education to improve students’ technical abilities, particularly in mastering fundamental football techniques such as dribbling.

Abstract

Literacy is a very crucial skill that must be developed from an early age because it serves as the foundation for the lifelong learning process. One effective way to increase children’s interest in reading is by providing a reading corner that is both child-friendly and easily accessible. This study aims to explore the role of the reading corner in enhancing children’s literacy at Khairul Shidiq Kindergarten/PAUD. The research method used is qualitative descriptive with data collection techniques that include observation, interviews, literature review, and documentation. The findings of this study indicate that the reading corner at Khairul Shidiq Kindergarten/PAUD has been actively utilized in various literacy activities. These activities include structured reading programs with prizes, awards for children who consistently show enthusiasm in reading, storytelling sessions, and singing together, all of which contribute to creating a joyful learning environment. Despite these positive efforts, several challenges remain in the management of the reading corner, such as the limited number of book collections, the lack of variation in reading materials, and the absence of a dedicated librarian who can organize and develop literacy activities more systematically. Nevertheless, the reading corner has proven to play a significant role in fostering children’s interest in reading and in strengthening their early literacy skills. Therefore, it can be concluded that the reading corner is an effective method for cultivating a literacy culture in early childhood education settings, particularly in pre-school institutions.

Abstract

This study aims to explore in depth the utilization of the Merdeka Mengajar Platform (PMM) in improving teacher performance at MI No. 06/E72 Tanjung Rawang. Employing a qualitative approach with a case study method, data were collected through observation, semi-structured interviews with teachers and school administrators, and documentation review. The findings reveal that PMM plays a crucial role in enhancing teachers’ professional competence by providing easy access to structured learning modules, inspirational videos, and updated teaching resources. It also supports collaboration and sharing of best practices through online learning communities, enabling teachers to discuss challenges, exchange teaching strategies, and receive feedback. Furthermore, PMM contributes to improved classroom management and assessment practices by offering digital tools that support lesson planning and formative evaluation. The platform also fosters reflection and continuous self-improvement through regular evaluations, self-assessments, and personalized recommendations. Despite these benefits, challenges persist, including unstable internet access, limited technological devices, and difficulties adapting instruction to the Merdeka Curriculum. This study recommends improving technological infrastructure, organizing regular training, and strengthening teacher learning communities to maximize the benefits of PMM. These findings underscore the strategic role of PMM as an innovative tool for teacher professional development and student learning improvement.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the use of social media, specifically YouTube and TikTok, as supporting learning media in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) at Nurul Hasanah Senior High School. The background of this research stems from the phenomenon of increasing social media use among adolescents, known as digital natives, and the potential of digital platforms as educational tools. The study used a descriptive qualitative approach, with eleventh-grade students and PAI teachers as subjects. Data collection techniques included interviews, observation, and documentation. The results showed that YouTube was effective in providing in-depth explanations of PAI material, while TikTok emphasized delivering short, motivational, and engaging messages in line with the characteristics of digital generation students. The use of social media has been proven to increase student motivation, participation, and understanding in PAI learning. However, challenges arise from distractions from non-learning content, limited information validity, and the potential for misuse of digital devices in schools. The role of teachers is crucial as facilitators, content curators, and supervisors to ensure the effective and responsible use of social media. Furthermore, school policies that allow students to bring mobile phones under certain conditions namely, collecting them when not in use and allowing them during lessons have been shown to balance the need for learning innovation with discipline. In conclusion, social media such as YouTube and TikTok can be effective supporting learning tools in Islamic Religious Education (PAI) when integrated with appropriate pedagogical strategies, teacher guidance, and school policy support.

Abstract

This paper discusses basic concepts in finite fields and emphasizes the meaning of irreducible polynomials and their relevance in algebraic analysis. The main focus is directed at the algorithms used to factor polynomials in finite fields through three important stages: distinct degree factorization, square-free factorization, and equal degree factorization. These stages are considered core procedures in determining the structure of polynomials and their relationship to more complex algebraic properties. Furthermore, this paper reviews the role of other algorithms that support this process, such as the Berlekamp algorithm, the Cantor–Zassenhaus algorithm, and several normalization techniques that enhance the effectiveness of the analysis. The combination of these various approaches allows the breakdown of polynomials into simpler factors, while also highlighting how the algorithms work synergistically to achieve accurate analysis results. Thus, this paper emphasizes the importance of a thorough understanding of polynomial factorization algorithms in finite fields, both in theory and application, and their contribution to the development of applied mathematics, particularly in the field of computational algebra.
