Abstract

This research aims to determine the marketing channels and marketing margins, as well as to assess the marketing efficiency of peanuts, originating from the Kebar District of Tambrauw Regency. The data collection method was conducted using simple random sampling and snowball sampling. This study discusses the general background of the respondent farmers in the Kebar District who cultivate peanuts in the villages of Anjai and Jafai, as well as the marketing actors such as Collector Traders, Retail Traders, and Consumers in the Tambrauw Regency Market and the city of Manokwari. Based on the results obtained, there are three marketing channels: the first channel involves farmers selling their peanut production directly to consumers. The second channel involves farmers selling their peanut production to retail traders. The third channel involves farmers selling peanuts to collector traders, who then sell the peanuts to retail traders at the market, and finally, the retail traders sell the peanuts to consumers. In this study, the most efficient marketing channel is channel one, with an efficiency value of 8.67%, and channel one is the channel with the smallest marketing margin, which is zero.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the level of production and income from upland rice farming using superior varieties, as well as to identify the main constraints faced by farmers in Oransbari District, South Manokwari Regency. Rice remains one of the most strategic staple crops in ensuring national food security. Increasing rice production largely depends on the use of high-yielding varieties and the adoption of proper cultivation technologies. This study assesses the extent to which superior rice varieties contribute to production levels and farmers’ incomes in the local context. The research employed a survey method using a census approach involving 40 farmer respondents from Oransbari. Data were collected through structured interviews using questionnaires and supported by secondary data from relevant institutions. The data were analyzed quantitatively using descriptive statistics, focusing on the average production per hectare and net farm income. The results show that the average rice production using superior varieties reached 4.38 tons/ha in Sidomulyo and 4.42 tons/ha in Oransbari. The average net income per hectare was IDR 9,155,554 in Sidomulyo and IDR 9,305,364 in Oransbari. These findings indicate that farming superior rice varieties is relatively profitable and contributes significantly to the farmers’ livelihoods in the region. Nonetheless, several challenges were identified during the cultivation process, including limited access to fertilizers, pest and disease infestations, and the lack of agricultural machinery. In conclusion, rice farming using superior varieties holds promising prospects for enhancing both production and income for farmers in Oransbari District. However, for long-term sustainability and productivity improvement, local government support is crucial. This includes ensuring the availability of agricultural inputs, expanding agricultural extension services, and implementing integrated pest and disease management programs.

Abstract

The marketing of marine fish in Manokwari Regency involves various actors, including fishermen, collectors, and retailers. Marketing activities are carried out not only in central fish markets but also at roadside huts along major thoroughfares in busy commercial areas or residential neighborhoods. The selection of selling locations and the marketing strategies employed by traders significantly influence the margins and profitability of their businesses. This study aims to: (1) analyze the marketing margins received by traders based on fish species in the Arfai Area of Manokwari Regency; and (2) evaluate the marketing profitability of roadside cottage traders in Arfai based on the type of fish sold. This research utilizes a survey method with both quantitative and qualitative approaches. Respondents were selected through purposive sampling, focusing on fish retailers who do not also act as fishermen or wholesale traders. The study covers five primary fish species: skipjack, tuna, cob, yellowtail scad (oci), and snapper. The results indicate that the marketing margins range from Rp. 23,304/Kg to Rp. 41,660/Kg, with an average margin of Rp. 31,061/Kg across all fish types. In terms of profitability, traders selling fish at roadside huts reported profits ranging from Rp. 2,761/Kg to Rp. 21,520/Kg, with an average profit of Rp. 12,024/Kg. Among the analyzed fish species, oci yielded the highest profit margin, while skipjack exhibited the lowest profitability. These findings offer valuable insights into the marketing dynamics of marine fish in Manokwari, highlighting key factors affecting profitability and distribution efficiency. Understanding these elements can help develop strategic marketing approaches that enhance traders' earnings and contribute to the economic sustainability of local fish markets.
