Abstract

The rapid expansion of palm oil production has triggered widespread concerns over its impact on global biodiversity, particularly in tropical regions rich in endemic species. This study employs a bibliometric analysis using data exclusively from the Scopus database and visualization through VOSviewer to map the scientific research landscape on palm oil and biodiversity between 2004 and 2024. A total of 980 documents were analyzed to identify key publication trends, influential authors, institutions, countries, and thematic clusters. The findings reveal a significant increase in research output over the past two decades, with a peak in 2019, reflecting growing academic and policy interest in environmental sustainability. Indonesia, Malaysia, and the United Kingdom emerged as the most productive and collaborative countries, while institutions such as IPB University and Universiti Putra Malaysia were identified as central contributors. Keyword co-occurrence and overlay visualizations indicate a thematic shift from ecological impact studies—such as species richness and deforestation—to broader sustainability concerns, including climate change, land use, and conservation policy. The study also highlights research gaps in geographic representation, underexplored taxa, and socio-political dimensions. These insights offer a foundation for guiding future interdisciplinary research and promoting more effective biodiversity conservation strategies in the context of palm oil production.

Abstract

Annual maximum rainfall is a critical parameter in mine planning, particularly for the design of drainage systems and hydrometeorological disaster mitigation. This study aims to analyze the frequency distribution of rainfall and estimate design rainfall for various return periods in the operational area of PT X, located in Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan. The dataset comprises 11 years of annual maximum rainfall data from 2013 to 2023. Four probability distribution models were evaluated: Gumbel, Normal, Log-Normal, and Log Pearson Type III. Goodness-of-fit testing was conducted using the Chi-Square and Kolmogorov-Smirnov methods. The Chi-Square test results indicate that all distributions are acceptable at a 5% significance level, but only the Gumbel distribution is valid at a 1% level. The Kolmogorov-Smirnov test confirms that all distributions are statistically acceptable at both significance levels. Design rainfall values were calculated for return periods of 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, and 100 years. The highest rainfall for the 2-year return period was produced by the Normal distribution (307.24 mm), while the Gumbel distribution yielded the highest values for return periods from 5 to 100 years, reaching a peak of 493.86 mm for the 100-year return period. These results suggest that the Gumbel distribution is the most suitable model for representing extreme rainfall events in the study area and is recommended for application in mine drainage system design and surface runoff control planning.

Abstract

This study investigates the role of socioeconomic status, school climate, and technology use as predictors of emotional well-being and learning satisfaction of Indonesian teenagers. Based on quantitative research, data were collected from 250 participants and analyzed through Structural Equation Modeling - Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS). The results show that the independent variables of socioeconomic status, school climate, and technology utilization are disproportionately contributing to emotional well-being and satisfaction with learning. Emotional well-being is acting as a central mediator, enhancing the salutary effects of the independent variables on satisfaction with learning. These results stress the importance of aiming at socioeconomic disparities, creating healthy school environments, and adopting balanced use of technology in learning. The study provides policy guidelines to policymakers and educators to enhance the emotional and academic outcomes of Indonesian adolescents.

Abstract

The present existence of information technology dramatically affects people's lives. Technology with all the programs and conveniences offered makes it possible for people to be able to use the technology. Its users often ignore security for themselves. Cyberbullying is an immoral act committed through electronic media, one of which is body shaming. Body Shaming is an aggressive and repeated behavior by individuals and groups to comment on a person's body shape by using electronic technology as a medium to attack others. Body shaming cannot continue to be left alone because the impact the victim has can damage one's mental health and is also dangerous because it can be done anywhere and anytime. With the main discussion on this study, Do Legal Protection Forms Against Victims of Body Shaming Crimes on Social Media and Urgency of Legal Protection for Victims of Body Shaming Crimes on Social Media. Research results show that legal protection against victims of body shaming crimes on social media can be seen from the provisions of Law No. 1 13 of 2006, LPSK Regulation Number 6 of 2010, and article 27 paragraph 3 of the ITE Law. However, the current regulations are not yet effective in solving the body shaming problem on social media.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to analyze the new paradigm in the protection of crime victims in Indonesian criminal law through the implementation of restorative justice, by identifying and comparing the laws of countries that have successfully implemented it, to determine the extent to which the principle has been accommodated in the national legal system. The research method used is normative legal writing with a statutory regulatory approach, legal concept analysis, and comparative law. The results indicate that the paradigm for protecting crime victims in Indonesian criminal law remains dominated by a retributive approach focused on perpetrators, while victims tend to be passive and lack comprehensive recovery. Although regulations such as the Criminal Procedure Code and the Law on Witness and Victim Protection exist, their implementation has not systematically integrated restorative justice principles. This study highlights the need for a new paradigm that places victims as the main subject through a restorative justice approach based on dialogue, recovery, and active participation. Through comparative analysis of practices in New Zealand, Canada, and the Netherlands, it is shown that restorative justice can be effectively implemented if supported by clear regulations, institutional support, and awareness among law enforcement officers. Therefore, the Indonesian criminal law system needs to be updated by formulating a contextual, just, and sustainable restorative justice-based victim protection model, to create a justice system more responsive to victims’ needs.
