Abstract

Background: Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a chronic disease with a continuously increasing prevalence both globally and nationally. Successful management of T2DM is highly dependent on patient self-management behaviors. Assessment tools such as the Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire-Revised (DSMQ-R) and the Summary of Diabetes Self-Care Activities-Indonesia (SDSCA-I) have been widely used to assess independent diabetes management. However, the integration of these tools with the Indonesian Nursing Diagnosis Standards (INDS) in establishing nursing diagnoses is still limited. Purpose: To map the existing scientific evidence regarding the use of DSMQ-R and SDSCA-I in assessing diabetes self-management and to explore their potential in supporting nursing diagnosis formulation based on INDS. Method: A scoping review was conducted following the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. Literature searches were performed in Google Scholar, PubMed, and ScienceDirect for articles published between 2018 and 2025. Included studies were primary quantitative and mixed-methods research addressing DSMQ-R, SDSCA, self-management in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, and their correlation with clinical outcomes. Results: Most studies demonstrated that DSMQ-R and SDSCA have good validity and reliability and are significantly correlated with glycemic control (HbA1c). DSMQ-R showed a stronger correlation with HbA1c compared to SDSCA. However, no studies were identified that directly integrated these instruments with INDS in establishing nursing diagnoses. Conclusion: DSMQ-R and SDSCA-I have the potential to serve as foundational tools for developing INDS-based assessment models in nursing practice. Keywords: DSMQ-R; INDS; SDSCA-I; Self-Management; Scoping Review; Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus.

Abstract

Background: Personality type is an individual characteristic that influences how nurses interact, communicate, and establish relationships with patients in clinical practice. One of the essential forms of professional interaction in nursing practice is therapeutic communication, which plays a crucial role in building mutual trust between nurses and patients and supporting the healing process. Differences in personality type are presumed to affect nurses’ ability to demonstrate empathy, engage in effective interactions, and respond appropriately to patients’ needs. Purpose: To analyze the relationship between personality type and the therapeutic communication skills of inpatient ward nurses in a hospital setting. Method: A quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population consisted of all nurses working in the inpatient wards at Jember Klinik Plantation Hospital, totaling 82 nurses. Total sampling was used as the sampling technique. The research instruments included the Jung’s Type Indicator (JTI) to measure personality type and the Global Interprofessional Therapeutic Communication Scale (GITCS) to assess therapeutic communication skills. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses, with the point-biserial correlation test applied at a significance level of 5%. Results: The majority of nurses had an introverted personality type (76%). The mean score of nurses’ therapeutic communication skills was 113.82 ± 4.77, which was above the minimum value. The correlation test results showed a significant relationship between personality type and nurses’ therapeutic communication skills (p = 0.000), with a correlation coefficient of r = 0.489, indicating a positive relationship of moderate strength. Conclusion: There was a significant relationship between personality type and the therapeutic communication skills of nurses in inpatient wards. Personality characteristics should be considered as one of the factors in developing strategies to improve therapeutic communication skills in order to enhance the quality of nursing care services. Abstract

Background: Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI) procedures may cause both physical and psychological effects, one of which is anxiety, often influenced by patients’ lack of knowledge regarding post-procedural wound care. Conventional education is considered suboptimal; therefore, innovation in digital-based educational approaches is needed. Purpose: To analyze the effect of digital-based wound care education on the level of knowledge among patients after Percutaneous Coronary Intervention (PCI). Method: A quasi-experimental pre-test–post-test nonequivalent control group design. A total of 44 respondents were recruited and divided into an intervention group and a control group. The intervention group received digital-based wound care education using video media, while the control group received education according to the hospital’s standard procedure. Knowledge level was measured using a knowledge questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and Mann–Whitney test. Results: There was a significant increase in knowledge scores in both the intervention group and the control group after receiving post-PCI wound care education (p < 0.05). Between-group comparison analysis showed that post-intervention knowledge scores were significantly higher in the group that received digital-based education using animated video compared to the group that received the hospital’s standard education (p < 0.001). Conclusion: Digital-based education using animated video is more effective than the hospital’s standard education in improving knowledge among post-PCI patients. Abstract

Background: Burnout among nurses is a Connon occupational health problem in hospital settings and has important for the quality of nursing care. Burnout develops as a response for prolonged work-related stress, particularly among nurses working in environments with high workload and emotional demands. Evidence indicates that nurse burnout is influenced by organizational, individual and psychosocial factors. Purpose: To map and examine organizational, individual and psychosocial determinants influencing burnout among hospitals nurses. Method: A scoping review was conducted in accordance with the PRISMA-ScR guidelines. National and international studies addressing burnout among hospital nurses were identified. Quantitative, qualitative and mixed-methods studies were included. Data were extracted and synthesized using narrative and thematic approaches. Results: A total of 20 articles met the inclusion criteria for this study. The synthesis identified three of determinants influencing burnout among hospital nurses: organizational determinants (workload, working hours, shift system, managerial support and role clarity), individual determinants (age, years experience, resilience, locus of control and work motivation), and psychosocial determinants (social support, interpersonal relationships, work climate and career development opportunities). Organizational determinants were the most consistently reported across studies. Conclusion: Burnout among hospital nurses is a multidimensional phenomenon shaped by the interaction of organizational, individual and psychosocial factors. Preventive efforts should prioritize organizational improvements, alongside strengthening individual capacities and supportive environments. Abstract

Background: Chronic pain is a common symptom among cancer patients and significantly affects quality of life across physical, psychological, and social domains. Pain perception is influenced not only by biological factors such as disease progression and treatment, but also by psychosocial factors, particularly family support. Family support plays an important role in enhancing coping mechanisms, reducing stress, and shaping patients’ responses to pain. However, empirical evidence on the relationship between family support and chronic pain perception among cancer patients in Indonesia remains limited. Purpose: To examine the relationship between family support and chronic pain perception among cancer patients. Method: A quantitative non-experimental study with a cross-sectional design was conducted involving 30 hospitalized cancer patients selected through total sampling. Family support was assessed using the family subscale of the Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support (MSPSS), while chronic pain perception was measured using the Brief Pain Inventory (BPI) Short Form. Results: Data analysis using Somers’ d test revealed a strong and statistically significant negative association between family support and chronic pain perception (r = −0.800; p<0.05). Conclusion: These findings underscore the importance of integrating family support into family-centered approaches for cancer pain management. Abstract

Background: Adolescence is a critical developmental period marked by biological, psychological, and social changes that increase vulnerability to mental-emotional disorders. Mental-emotional disorders among adolescents may impair academic performance, social relationships, and overall well-being. In Indonesia, particularly at the regional level, evidence regarding comprehensive biopsychosocial determinants among junior high school students remains limited. Purpose: To identify the biopsychosocial determinants associated with mental-emotional disorders among adolescents. Method: A cross-sectional design conducted from May to November 2025. A total of 101 students were selected using proportional stratified random sampling. Mental-emotional disorders were measured using the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ). Independent variables included physical activity, sleep quality, academic burnout, smartphone addiction, peer support, bullying, parenting style, and sex. Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analyses with the chi-square test and prevalence ratio (PR) at a significance level of 0.05. Results: The prevalence of mental-emotional disorders among students was 41.6%. Significant associations were found between mental-emotional disorders and low physical activity (PR=2.7; 95% CI: 1.750–4.393), poor sleep quality (PR=2.4; 95% CI: 1.483–3.974), high academic burnout (PR=2.5; 95% CI: 1.604–4.162), smartphone addiction (PR=1.9; 95% CI: 1.269–3.109), low peer support (PR=1.8; 95% CI: 1.150–3.032), and experiences of bullying (PR=13.7; 95% CI: 4.558–41.760). Sex and parenting style were not significantly associated with mental-emotional disorders. Conclusion: Mental-emotional disorders among adolescents are significantly influenced by multiple biopsychosocial factors, particularly lifestyle behaviors, academic stress, peer relationships, and bullying experiences. School-based promotive and preventive interventions focusing on physical activity, sleep hygiene, stress management, strengthening peer support, and bullying prevention are strongly recommended.
