Abstract

Rhodamine B is one of chemical compound that is the most widely used in lipstick sold in have no a notification number from the drug and food regulatory agency, with physical characteristics that have a very light color and then when applied to the skin it is difficult to remove the traces. This research purposed to determine the presence of Rhodamine B in lipstick from the characteristics of lipstick containing Rhodamine B and to know the concentration of Rhodamine B in the sample. The method used in this study is qualitative and quantitative, with the selection of samples by purposive sampling. Qualitative identification in this study using a Rhodamine B test kit, meanwhile quantitative identification using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry. The results of the qualitative test using the Rhodamine B Test Kit contained 4 positive samples, sample 3,4,5 and 7. Rhodamine B concentration in positive samples were 34.76 ppm (sample 3), 38.30 ppm (sample 4), 74.28 ppm (sample 5), and 108.38 ppm (sample 7). Based on the qualitative analysis, the number concentration of Rhodamine B in the sample did not affect the color of the lipstick product, thus these samples were difficult to identify sample containing Rhodamine B. The results of this study indicated that there are still cosmetic manufacturers using the Rhodamine B as dye in lipstick production. Moreover, these positive samples do not meet the criteria for safe cosmetic products in terms of packaging, incomplete labels, heterogenous texture. Abstract

Kenaf fiber is a raw material in diversified products, such as paper, wall coverings, car interiors, geotextiles, soil safer, fiber drain, particle board, and plastic reinforcement as well as raw material for the biofuel industry. Organic kenaf fiber is yellowish white but when it is processed it is light brown and shiny. In improving the appearance to make it more attractive to consumers and high selling power, it is necessary to have a dyeing process for kenaf fiber. The dyes used in kenaf fiber are natural dyes because they are non-toxic, renewable, easily degraded and environmentally friendly. The advantages of using natural dyes are because they have economic value, are environmentally friendly and are easily available in the surrounding environment, such as mango leaves and betel leaves which can produce color pigments, namely mangiferine and anthocyanin pigments. This study aims to determine the effect of kenaf fiber added with natural dyes (mango leaves and betel leaf) on the color, texture, and aroma of kenaf fiber and to determine the level of consumer preference for kenaf fiber with natural dyes. This research was tested using the Hedonic Test method, using a questionnaire with 40 untrained panelists (consumers) with data obtained based on panelist responses using a hedonic scale analyzed by the Kruskal-Wallis test. The results showed that there was no significant effect on kenaf fiber that had been given natural dyes of betel leaf and mango leaf on the color, texture, and aroma of kenaf fiber. However, from the results of the average level of consumer preference, panelists on average tend to like the color and are neutral to the texture and aroma of kenaf fiber with natural dyes of mango and betel leave.

Abstract

Coconut dregs is a waste that contain cellulose as a material for making composite paper. This study aimed to know the quality of this composite paper based on organoleptic test. Organoleptic tests were also carried out to determine the level of liking for paper based on the texture, color, and odor. Composite paper in this study made of coconut pulp and used HVS paper pulp combination. This designed experiment used a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 replications of 3 treatments and a control. The data obtained were analyzed using the Anova test and the DMRT test with a level of 5%. Organoleptic test results with the addition of 15% coconut dregs (P1) showed the highest results of liking in terms of texture, fiber appearance, color, and odor. Based on DMRT test, P1 had significant different result than others. Thus, P1 was the most liking as composite paper. Furthermore, this research has the potential to be developed for physical test for justified this composite paper has a good paper quality.

Abstract

Coconut dregs is a waste that has non-wood fiber thus it is potential as a material for making composite paper. The use of coconut dregs in this study aims to determine its potential as a raw material for making composite paper through tensile resistance and tear resistance.             The making of composite paper in this study was carried out by combining coconut pulp and used HVS paper pulp. The design used was a completely randomized design (CRD) with 3 replications consisting of 3 treatments and a control. The data obtained were analyzed using the Anova test and the DMRT test with a level of 5%..             The highest paper tensile resistance test results were obtained by P1 which was 0.26 kN / m smaller than 1.26 kN / m (P0 as a control), as well as the highest paper tear resistance test results obtained by P2 at 340 mN smaller than 666 , 4 mN (P0 as control). Based on the data obtained, the addition of coconut dregs or not in making composite paper shows a potential that does not have a significant effect. This research has the potential to be developed for better paper quality.

Abstract

Association of Southeast Asian Nations or Asean is one of the regional organizations that exist in today’s world. Then, Mercosur or Mercado Común del Sur (Southern Common Market) is a South American trade bloc that moving forward beyond the traditional regional bloc, because the nature of its organization lays more on economic and trade transactions, rather than politics. As globalization grows, these two regional organizations seek more deep cooperation. Nevertheless, through a comparative historical qualitative descriptive analysis, this paper argues that the cooperation will lead to both failures and failed to secure engagement because of the nature of Spaghetti Bowls (or Noodle Bowls in Asia) in the organization country member’s respective economic crafts since the country members also join other trans-continental economic partnership. Moreover, both regional groups are naturally not the traditional partners of each other, thus How the Asean and Mercosur cooperation could benefit each other despite the nature of Spaghetti Bowls in their regionalization? Furthermore, this paper also argues that Asean could learn how the Mercosur model could be used for its AEC or Asean Economic Community since Mercosur intra-trade is more advanced than Asean intra-trade. Further, the comparison analysis also provided in this research.
