Abstract

This study will investigate this relationship between the tahfiz and the students' emotional intelligence. Quantitative research and correlational methodology are used in this study. The research population consists of 97 students from Madrasah Aliyah Swasta Muallimin UNIVA Medan. Cluster random sampling was employed as the sampling method in this research. A questionnaire was used as the data collection method. The study data were examined using the t-test statistical method, the coefficient of determination test, and the Pearson product moment correlation. According to the study's findings, students at MAS Muallimin Univa Medan's emotional intelligence is significantly influenced by the tahfiz students. This is supported by the person correlation value of 0.620 and the sig value of 0.000 < 0.05. The Tahfidz Al-Qur'an program makes a 38% contribution to the emotional intelligence of pupils. The results of the t test show that tcount > ttable with Sig = 0.000 < 0.05). Using the formula dk = n-k = 95, the tcount is 7,712 and the ttable value is 1,985, with a significant level of 5%. The results of the study show a strong relationship between students' emotional intelligence and the Tahfidz Al-Qur'an curriculum. These findings are valuable for educators in developing impactful programs that enhance the overall quality of graduates in terms of intellectual capabilities, attitudes, and skills. Additionally, stakeholders can leverage the research to inform education policies and strive for outstanding graduates.

Abstract

The advancement of technology develops a new framework in the education field, known as TPACK. It integrates the theory of pedagogy, content, and technology. Using mix method (qualitative-quantitative) research design, the researchers’ goal was to know the implementation of TPACK in designing lesson plans by English teachers. Furthermore, the researchers decided to use purposive sampling for each education level (junior, senior, and vocational schools) in West Sumatera. To gain the data, the researchers conducted document analysis, observation, questionnaires, and interviews. After analyzing the data, it was found that the teachers in terms of preparing the lesson, the result showed teachers’ pedagogical competence was higher than technological and content knowledge because they adopted lesson plans from the internet. However, regarding the competent of teachers in teaching and learning process, it seemed that they were more competent in technology compared with pedagogy and content knowledge because novice teachers were more familiar in using technology compared to experienced teachers. Surprisingly, in terms of assessment, the teachers were more competent in pedagogy compared with technology and content knowledge. However, content knowledge were not illustrate significantly since they could not understand and develop learning material based on students’ needs. In conclusion, teachers’ competence with TPACK were still below average in terms of  understanding the concept, implementation, and assessment, so that they need workshop and seminar to improve their teaching quality and TPACK understanding and implementation.

Abstract

This research investigated how EFL teachers become more engaged with extensive reading when developing their writing proficiency. This research used a narrative inquiry method to collect data on individuals who have and have not engaged in extensive reading. An initial questionnaire was sent to EFL teachers through Google-form. Fifteen EFL high school teachers responded to the questionnaire, most female and 33 years old. Afterward, one chosen EFL teacher was interviewed to discuss how they use extensive reading to improve their writing skills. The results found that the keys to improving scientific article writing as a hobby are that English teachers read articles from various sources to gain more information and understand different perspectives. Besides, they set a reading target of 15 minutes per day for them, leading to 20 books per year, or at least they can start practicing extensive reading since university. Also, reading fairytales, comics, folktales, magazines, novels, and short stories as extensive reading materials could increase their writing proficiency. In brief, extensive reading improves vocabulary mastery, reading fluency, and English proficiency, helping teachers better convey ideas and thoughts through written language. The implication was also discussed here.

The principals, teachers, parents and students were the research informants. Data were collected through participant observation, in-depth interview, and documentary study. The triangulation was used to check the trustworthiness of the data. The results showed that the implementation of discipline was by giving rewards and punishments according to school rules; honesty by using the Kantin Kejujuran and some CCTV, while hard work by using school assignments, group study and student work. Supporting and inhibiting factors include teachers, parents, students and the school environment. This finding confirms that schools have their own ways in applying character education based on each of their vision, need and condition. Any future research can be more directed at implementing character in Islamic madrasahs/schools, families, and communities so that they are able to provide role models and scientific treasures in this issue, considering that character is very important, especially in this age of character crisis among students.

Abstract

The problem of this research was that there was no clear information about students’ strategies in improving their reading comprehension. Therefore, a descriptive quantitative method was used to find out the students’ strategies in improving their reading comprehension. A questionnaire consisting of 10 questions was distributed English Education Department students of IAIN Batusangkar to collect research data. The questionnaire was distributed to them, and there were 37 students who gave their responses. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistical analysis. Based on the research results, it was found that there were three steps of reading strategies applied by students in improving their reading comprehension. In pre-reading stage, students applied six reading strategies: previewing, creating question, making prediction, writing the main points of what reader already know about the text, reading introductions and summaries, and creating a pre-reading outline strategy. The mostly applied strategy was previewing strategy, and the least one was reading introductions and summaries strategy. In whilst reading stage, they applied reading the selection text, visualizing, paraphrasing, elaborating, changing reading rate, inferring, note-taking, and rereading strategy. The mostly applied strategy was paraphrasing strategy, and the least one was rereading strategy. In the post-reading stage, students applied two reading strategies: summarizing and reviewing. Between both strategies, summarizing was dominantly applied.

The novelty in the research is designing WELIA (Website Linguistic Intelligence Assessment) which is used to assess or measure the linguistic intelligence of elementary school students using technology. The results showed that the average score of 3 practitioner validators on 11 components showed a figure of 81.81% - 93.18% with a very decent category level. The first practitioner validator gave an assessment with a very feasible category of 11 assessment components, so that a percentage value of 81.81% was obtained for media assessment. Expert validators on 11 components showed a score of 84.09% - 88.63% with a very feasible category level. The first expert validator gave an assessment with a very feasible category of 11 assessment components, so that a percentage value of 84.09% was obtained, it can be concluded that WELIA can be used to assess the linguistic intelligence of elementary school students.

Abstract

The issue is that history is generally taught in schools in a conventional manner, relying solely on textbook explanations and attempting to gather facts about what happened in the past. As a result, history classes have always come to be associated with memorization and recollection of past events, making it harder for students to acquire higher-order thinking abilities like historical thinking. To distribute the potential that students must possess, relevant paradigms, methods, tactics, models, and processes must be used to develop historical thinking abilities. The goal of this research is to develop a local history learning model based on the progressivism paradigm that will aid students in improving their historical thinking abilities. This study is a development studies project based on Thiagarajan, Semmel, and Semmel's 4D development design. The research stage is modified according to the needs and goals of the study. Interviews, open questionnaires, validation sheets, and historical thinking skills tests were used to gather data for the study. This study enlisted the participation of 160 students from Riau University's history education program. Our study's findings show that the local history learning model based on the progressive paradigm was valid and reliable as a learning model in local history learning and had a significant impact on students at Riau University's think historically. The summative evaluation indicated that the progressivism-based local history learning model was extremely effective in improving higher-order thinking abilities like historical thinking. Therefore, educators, including lecturers and teachers, may utilize this progressive
