Abstract

The research aims to explore the implementation of game-based learning to improve Arabic achievement of students at MAN 2 Bukittinggi. This was a descriptive qualitative research. Data were collected by doing observation and test. Game-based Arabic learning was implemented to 30 students of grade X of IPA 3 at MAN 2 Bukittinggi. Results showed that the procedures of game-based Arabic learning are: determine basic competence and indicators; motivate students, inform the learning purpose; prepare games based on themes; explain the game manual; demonstrate the game in front of the class; explain the learning materials; give chances to students to join the game; ask students to do tasks; correct students’ answers; give feedback and clarification about the learning process; and give reward to the active students. By applying the game-based Arabic learning, more than 75% students got high scores (above KKM). The game-based Arabic learning encourages the improvement of students’ thinking skills, attract students’ interest and motivation to learn, and also overcome boredom in learning. However, on the other side, applying game-based learning makes the class noisy and it is quite difficult to control the students’ activity.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the form and meaning of nahyi in Al-Quran Surah Al-Baqarah based on the perspective of Roman Jakobson's semiotic theory of communication. Descriptive qualitative was used as the method of this research. Al-Qur’an surah Al-Baqarah verse 22, 41, 42, 132, and 147 were the source of the data. The study’s findings indicated that the message’s sender is Allah SWT, the recipient is human, and the code is fi’il nahyi. The messages from nahyi contained in surah Al-Baqarah verses are not the same. In verse 132, the message is irsyad (guidance), whereas in verses 22, 41, 42, and 147, the message is tahdzir (threat). This demonstrates that nahyi does not only mean a prohibition, but also means giving instructions. The nahyi context varies as well. The context is situational context in verses 22, 41, 132, and 147, and cultural context in verse 42. Therefore, it is important for Arabic learners to understand the forms and meanings of nahyiin order to distinguish them when they appear in spoken or written Arabic.

It is undeniable that metaphor evolved from the beginning of its emergence. Furthermore, experts argued on the existence of metaphor. The type of this research was literature review. The data in this research were obtained from relevant references. The results indicate that metaphor is part of language use. The first person to use metaphor was Abu Ubaidah Muammar Al Mutsanna. This term was developed by Al Jurjani who classified metaphor into majaz lughawi and majaz aqliy.  Experts also argued on the existence of metaphor in Al Qur’an and Arabic. According to some of them, metaphor is not entirely included in the Qur’an.. Others claim that metaphor appears in the Qur'an and Arabic. Because the existence of metaphor is particularly significant in the meaning of language, the researcher choose the majority opinion that metaphor can be found in the Qur'an and Arabic.

Abstract

This research aims to determine the suitability of Arabic Language and Literature textbooks for 10th grade High School/MA Students with the BSKAP standards, the readability level, and readability level by student grade. This research used the evaluative method. The researchers used content analysis technique and collected data through literature study and document study to analyze the feasibility of textbooks. The method used to determine the readability level was the Raygor’s graph and the fog index. The results of the study indicate that this book is suitable for use with an overall score of 92.42% which includes aspects of the feasibility of standard content, presentation, design and graphics. However, based on the results of Raygor's graphic analysis, this textbook is not appropriate for use at the 10th grade student because none of the eight texts studied correspond to the 10th grade level. Meanwhile, based on the results of the fog index, this textbook is in easy to read category with a score of 3.72. Overall this book is suitable for use in the 10th grade student, but it needs some adjustments to design standards such as selecting interesting illustrations. Even though it has a high level of feasibility, the readability of this book is not up to the 10th grade student and the readability level is not ideal, so it needs improvement.
