Abstract

Teaching Arabic in schools proceeds traditionally, where education is still from one source and through limited and different means, as is the case in the Pena Santri Middle School in Medan, where students have become less active and motivated in learning Arabic. Therefore, we were in dire need of developing an appropriate method, such as Google Sites. The aim of the research is to describe the method of developing methods for teaching the Arabic language to students at Pena Santre Middle School in Medan, and to know its specifications and effectiveness to improve students’ motivation in learning the Arabic language. This research is developmental research, as the researchers used the 4-D method, which consists of 4 stages, which are definition, design, development, and publication. All these stages later result in a product that will be tested to ensure its suitability before testing it with students.  In the introduction stage, eighth grade students at Pena Santre School need a teaching method that can increase their interest in learning the Arabic language. In the design stage, the two researchers design a product that is considered compatible with the students’ needs, which is Google Sites, which consists of three parts. After completing the design, the two researchers validated it with very valid results. The result of the research is that the educational tool Google developed websites increases students’ motivation in learning Arabic, especially for the patient clinic subject.

Abstract

This study aims to identify innovations in Arabic language learning for speaking proficiency among adult learners over the past 10 years. The method used is a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) with databases Scopus, Emerald, Science Direct, and Google Scholar. From the initial 1725 articles, 28 relevant articles were screened using Covidence and the PRISMA method. The results show innovations in models, methods, approaches, media use, teaching material development, and assessment systems, with most yielding positive outcomes. These innovations can be implemented in other institutions or tested in different contexts. However, some negative results, especially in khitobah practice, were due to insufficient supervision or the ineffectiveness of the practice. Several articles did not report the outcomes of the innovations, presenting opportunities for further research to evaluate these innovations more deeply.

Abstract

In this increasingly sophisticated era, students are required to be able to have speaking and reading skills. However, due to the lack of effectiveness of teachers in using learning media, many students feel that learning feels monotonous so that students do not want to develop and practice their speaking and reading skills. The purpose of this study is to determine the effectiveness of the use of audio visuals as a learning medium for speaking skills and reading skills of tsanawiah students. This research method uses a quantitative research method, where the data is obtained from the results of online questionnaire distribution. The results of the study show that audio-visual media is effective on students' speaking and reading skills. From the study, it can be concluded that the use of audio visuals as a learning medium has proven to be effective. The limitation of this study is that researchers can only conduct research on audio-visual learning media even though there are still many other learning media that can be used as alternatives in improving students' speaking and reading skills. The researcher hopes that the next researcher will be able to conduct research related to students' speaking and reading skills but by using other learning media. This study also recommends to future researchers to use this research as a reference in conducting research on improving students' speaking and reading skills through audio visuals.

Abstract

This study examines the effectiveness of the Jigsaw Learning Method in enhancing student engagement, motivation, and comprehension in Maharah Qiro’ah (Arabic reading) instruction at Madrasah Aliyah (MA) As-Sholach. Traditional methods such as sorogan and direct translation have long been used in pesantren-based Arabic instruction. While these approaches emphasize teacher-centered learning and individual recitation, they often struggle to maintain student engagement and provide limited opportunities for collaborative and active learning. In contrast, the Jigsaw method fosters peer interaction, cooperative knowledge-sharing, and structured learning, potentially addressing the motivation and comprehension gaps found in traditional methods. This study employs a mixed-methods approach, combining quantitative data from structured pre-tests, post-tests, and Likert-scale questionnaires with qualitative insights from classroom observations, student interviews, and teacher feedback. The study involved 107 students from grades XI and XII, divided into Jigsaw learning groups for Maharah Qiro’ah lessons. Descriptive statistical analysis revealed that 93.5% of students found the method effective, with 88.8% reporting increased motivation and 82.2% demonstrating improved comprehension. However, challenges persisted in material suitability (76.6%) and vocabulary retention (76.6%), highlighting areas for instructional refinement. The qualitative findings further reinforce these results, indicating that while the Jigsaw method enhances engagement and peer collaboration, additional support mechanisms—such as pre-teaching vocabulary sessions, scaffolding techniques, and continuous teacher training—are needed to optimize learning outcomes. The findings suggest that integrating Jigsaw into pesantren-based education can improve Arabic reading comprehension while making lessons more engaging and student-centered. This research contributes to the growing body of literature on cooperative learning strategies in Islamic education and underscores the potential of structured collaborative methods to enhance Maharah Qiro’ah instruction.

Abstract

Learning Sharfi science is a fundamental element in mastering Arabic, but conventional methods are often considered monotonous and ineffective, especially for Generation Z who are familiar with technology. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of digital platforms in learning Sharfi science. With a quantitative survey approach, 22 students of Mahmud Yunus Batusangkar State Islamic University were involved as respondents. Data was collected through a digital-based questionnaire designed to measure students’ perception of the effectiveness of using digital platforms in learning. The results of the study showed that 90% of respondents felt easy in understanding Sharfi’s material through digital media. In addition, 57% of them routinely use digital platforms in the learning process. These findings confirm that digitization of learning can increase student engagement as well as the effectiveness of the learning process. Popular platforms like Canva and YouTube have proven to be able to present learning concepts in a more interactive and engaging way. This study concludes that the use of digital technology not only makes learning more dynamic, but also relevant to the needs of the current generation. This finding has important implications for the further development of digital teaching materials to support Sharfi learning that is more effective and engaging. This study recommends increasing innovation in the provision of technology-based learning materials to optimize the potential of digitalization in the field of Arabic language education.

Abstract

The digital era has brought significant changes to various aspects of human life, including how Muslims understand, internalize, and express their Islamic identity. Language, as a fundamental means of communication, plays a strategic role in strengthening Islamic identity amidst the challenges of globalization and digitalization. This article aims to explore how language, particularly Arabic as the language of the Qur'an, along with local languages rooted in Islamic culture, can be utilized as tools for reinforcing Islamic identity. Using a qualitative approach, this study analyzes the use of language in digital media, Islamic education, and social interactions. The findings reveal that the use of Arabic in the context of worship and education provides spiritual and cognitive reinforcement of Islamic values. Furthermore, local languages rich in Islamic wisdom can serve as effective mediums to bring religious values closer to local communities. However, the use of language also faces challenges, such as distortion of meaning on social media and limited digital literacy among the younger generation. Therefore, collaborative efforts from educators, scholars, and media practitioners are necessary to wisely utilize language as a tool for strengthening Islamic identity, enabling Muslims to address the challenges of the digital era without losing their traditional roots and Islamic values.

Abstract

This study aims to assess the need for nahwu (Arabic grammar) teaching materials for Quran memorization students. A deep and accurate understanding of the Quranic verses requires mastery of nahwu. However, many Quran memorization students face challenges in learning nahwu due to the teaching materials not aligning with their needs. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method with a needs analysis approach. The analysis was conducted through data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The research participants consisted of the Vice Principal of Curriculum Affairs and 27 students at PTQ Maqdis. The main activity of PTQ Maqdis students is memorizing and reviewing their Quranic memorization. Data was collected through structured interviews with the Vice Principal of Curriculum Affairs at PTQ and by having 27 PTQ students complete a needs analysis questionnaire. The results of the interviews showed that PTQ Maqdis uses Matan al-Ajurrumiyah in nahwu learning and that there is a need for nahwu teaching materials with a discovery model grounded in Quranic verses. Meanwhile, the students’ questionnaire revealed that 78.2% of the students, or the majority, need teaching materials with a discovery-based model grounded in Quranic verses. Based on these findings, there is a need for the development of the Matan al-Ajurrumiyah book with a discovery model grounded in Quranic verses.

Abstract

The development of technology in this era of globalization is indispensable in the world of education. Many free platforms provide various applications to create interactive learning media, including the Gartic platform. This platform provides games in the form of drawing quizzes that many people can follow. This research aims to develop the gartic platform as an interactive Arabic learning media and foster students’ interest in learning to increase knowledge in an exciting and not boring way. This research method uses the development method (research and development) using the 4D model (Define, Design, Develop, and Disseminate). The results of this study explain that the gartic platform can improve the learning achievement of Integrated Islamic Elementary School students, with evidence that students can memorize more than a thousand Arabic vocabulary. This study concludes that the Gartic platform can help teachers create interactive quizzes so students feel happy learning Arabic. The limitation of this study is that researchers only researched Integrated Islamic Elementary School students where the use of this platform must be modeled first and needs supervision by teachers. For this reason, researchers hope that future researchers can further develop this platform at a higher education level.
