Abstract

In response to the global urgency for education systems to adapt to the demands of the 21st century, this study examines strategic efforts to enhance education quality through digitalization at Universitas Pendidikan Indonesia (UPI) Bumi Siliwangi’s partner schools. As nations strive to develop competitive and future-ready human capital, integrating digital technologies into school systems has become a critical pathway toward achieving World Class Education. This research investigates how digital tools—such as Learning Management Systems, multimedia platforms, and online communication applications—are utilized to transform learning processes, administrative operations, and stakeholder engagement. Key enablers identified include visionary leadership, ongoing professional development, infrastructure readiness, and collaborative support from UPI. However, challenges such as digital inequality, varying levels of digital literacy, and resistance to change highlight the need for systemic and sustainable strategies. The findings emphasize that advancing digitalization is not merely a technical upgrade but a cultural shift, requiring long-term commitment and policy alignment to ensure inclusive, high-quality education for all learners.

Abstract

Married life is a dynamic journey involving two individuals bound in a commitment to build a stable and harmonious household. However, the reality of family life often presents a variety of challenges such as persistent arguments, jealousy, domestic violence, infidelity, conflicting values, and even divorce. These issues can significantly disrupt the emotional balance and unity of a family. As such, family counseling serves as a crucial intervention method to restore harmony, promote understanding, and rebuild relationships within the family system. This article aims to review and analyze the role of counselors in fostering family harmony and unity through various family counseling approaches. Counselors are not only facilitators of communication but also play a strategic role in conflict resolution, emotional support, and behavior restructuring among family members. By exploring diverse counseling models and techniques—such as structural, strategic, and systemic approaches—this review seeks to highlight how counselors address both immediate issues and deeper relational dynamics. In conclusion, the review underscores that the counselor’s presence in family counseling contributes significantly to creating emotionally safe environments, strengthening family bonds, and preventing the escalation of conflict. Understanding the counselor's multifaceted role can help improve the effectiveness of family counseling practices and guide families toward resilience, balance, and long-term well-being.

Abstract

Waste management in traditional markets remains a significant challenge in many regions, contributing to environmental degradation and public health concerns. This study aims to determine the potential for waste generation, the waste management system, and the role of traders in waste management in the Lipa Market environment, Teluk Mutiara District, Alor Regency. The method used is descriptive qualitative with data collection techniques including observation, interviews, and documentation. The results of the study indicate that the potential for waste generation in Lipa Market is very high, with inorganic waste being the dominant type. Waste management is not optimal due to limited facilities such as trash bins, low trader awareness regarding waste sorting, and an inefficient waste collection system. The role of traders in waste management is still minimal, as shown by their low participation in sorting, disposing of, and maintaining the cleanliness of the market environment. Therefore, it is recommended that relevant authorities enhance infrastructure, provide regular education and awareness programs, and involve traders more actively to establish a clean and sustainable market environment.

Abstract

Conversion of agricultural land is one of the serious problems faced at the rural level, including in Manurung Village, Bola District, Wajo Regency. In fact, in the Wajo Regency Spatial Planning (RTRW) document, the Manurung Village area is designated as an agricultural cultivation area that should be maintained to support food security. However, the reality in the field shows that there is a change in agricultural land use to non-agricultural land that continues to occur. This study aims to analyze the conversion of agricultural land in Manurung Village, Bola District, Wajo Regency, in the period 2014 to 2024. The main focus of the study is: (1) To determine the percentage of changes in agricultural land use in Manurung Village during the period 2014 to 2024, (2) To identify and analyze the factors that drive the conversion of agricultural land in Manurung Village., (3) To analyze the impacts caused by the conversion of agricultural land. The methods used include spatial analysis through interpretation of Google Earth imagery and manual digitization, as well as quantitative statistical analysis using multiple regression to determine the influence of economic, demographic, policy, and socio-cultural factors on land change. The research results show that during the 2014–2024 period, there was a decrease in rice fields by 8.97% and shrubs by 18.49%. Meanwhile, built-up land increased by 76.6%, plantations by 52.63%, and lakes by 17.84%. Economic and demographic factors are the main drivers of land conversion, particularly the need for settlements and non-agricultural economic activities.

Abstract

The rapid transformation of education in the 21st century demands approaches that move beyond traditional, teacher-centered instruction toward models that are more student-centered, experiential, and contextually relevant. In Indonesia, this shift is embodied in the Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka), which emphasizes curriculum flexibility, local contextualization, and the active role of teachers in adapting instruction to students’ needs and environments. Within this context, John Dewey’s philosophy of progressive education, which underscores learning through experience, critical reflection, and social engagement, offers an important theoretical foundation for understanding and strengthening contemporary pedagogical practices. This study aims to examine the relevance of Dewey's educational philosophy to the implementation of contextual learning within the Independent Curriculum by employing a qualitative descriptive approach based on library research. Drawing on analyses of Dewey’s seminal works, educational policy documents, scholarly publications, and documented examples of curriculum application in schools such as SMAN 10 Kota Ternate, SDN Tomagoba Tidore, and SLB Sofifi in North Maluku, the study finds that Dewey’s principles—learning by doing, real-life experience, and student-centered engagement—are strongly reflected in current practices of contextual learning. The documented evidence highlights positive outcomes, including increased student motivation, active participation, and improved effectiveness of the learning process. These findings affirm the enduring relevance of Dewey’s educational philosophy in addressing the demands of 21st-century education and underscore the necessity of sustained policy support and continuous professional development for teachers to ensure the successful implementation of the Independent Curriculum.

Abstract

The traditional Moke beverage industry in Kokowahor Village, Kangae District, Sikka Regency, is part of the local culture and a source of community income. This study aims to analyze the location of the Moke industry based on Alfred Weber's industrial location theory, focusing on transportation and labor cost efficiency. The method used is a quantitative approach with data collection techniques through interviews, observation, documentation, and field studies. Data were analyzed using a locational triangle approach to determine the optimal location of the industry. The results show that most Moke industries are located close to raw material sources and markets, thus reducing transportation costs. In addition, the workforce used comes from families or the surrounding community, so labor costs are relatively low. These findings are in line with Weber's principle that industrial location is determined by cost minimization. This research is expected to serve as a reference in the development of local industries sustainably and strengthen the study of economic geography through the application of location theory in the context of traditional industries.

Abstract

Climate change and global warming are issues currently being faced by the world. Extreme temperature changes and the increasing intensity of natural disasters that occur throughout the world are the main causes of news about global warming being increasingly hotly discussed. Increasing human activities have resulted in higher carbon dioxide levels, along with the increasing use of fossil fuels such as oil and natural gas, and coal. This study aims to report how the implementation of carbon emission disclosure (CED) and eco-efficiency affect company value, and whether or not there is a moderating effect of foreign ownership on the relationship between CED and eco-efficiency on company value. Carbon emission scores are measured using 18 measurement lists based on data from the company's annual report, while eco-efficiency is assessed based on the existence of certification in its sustainability report. The research sample was 23 energy sector companies out of 80 companies listed on the IDX from 2020-2022. The list of criteria was created in order to meet the depth of insight about carbon emissions and eco-efficiency. The regression results show that CED disclosure can significantly increase company value. In contrast eco-efficiency could not increase firm value significantly, but more than 85% of companies have been certified throughout the observation period. Although the foreign ownership variable cannot play a significant role as a moderating variable, its influence coefficient is positive and increasing. Overall, the findings show results that are consistent with signal theory and stakeholder theory.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the quality and productivity of human resource development (HRD) in fish processing groups in Sinjai Regency, South Sulawesi. The research focused on the effectiveness of training conducted by the Fisheries Office and the Cooperatives, SMEs, and Manpower Office in increasing the capacity of business groups. Data were obtained through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results showed that the training provided was not fully optimal, primarily due to a weak needs assessment before the program was implemented. The fish smoking group, despite having a high production of up to 1,400 kg in 2016, had not received specific training tailored to their needs. As a result, training tended to be a program formality without having a significant impact on improving the group's skills or productivity. Comparative analysis with previous research confirms the finding that training effectiveness is strongly influenced by the relevance of the material, participant participation, and the active role of extension workers in the learning process. The achievement rate of training targets in the 2021–2023 period was also relatively low, only around 30–40% of the 50% target set annually. This indicates a gap between program planning and the actual needs of participants in the field. Therefore, a more adaptive development strategy is needed through needs assessments, increased group participation, and alignment of training materials with regional strengths to ensure more effective and sustainable human resource development.

Abstract

The paradigmatic transformation of criminal fines within Law No. 1 of 2023 (the National Criminal Code) shifts its concept from a retributive sanction to an instrument of state financial recovery through the construction of "debt to the state." This reform addresses the systemic failure of the criminal fine system under the old Criminal Code, which was marked by irrelevant nominal values, the ineffectiveness of substitute imprisonment, and the resulting loss of potential Non-Tax State Revenue (PNBP). Employing a normative-juridical research method with a comparative approach, this article examines the philosophical, normative, and sociological foundations of this renewal. The primary finding indicates that the National Criminal Code—through its categorical fine system, consideration of the convict's ability to pay, and prioritization of asset execution—fundamentally alters the logic of penal fines. This innovation is theoretically capable of changing the rational calculus of convicts and significantly increasing PNBP. However, its implementation faces a crucial challenge in the form of a procedural law vacuum within the current Criminal Procedure Code (KUHAP), which fails to provide a procedural basis for prosecutors to conduct post-judgment execution seizures. While this reform has immense potential to significantly boost PNBP, its success is absolutely contingent upon the harmonization of the criminal procedure law to provide a robust procedural foundation for prosecutors as executors.
