Abstract

This research aims to analyze the phenomenon of Muslim women's fashion in the perspective of Islamic law and Michel Foucault's theory of governmentality. The focus of the study is directed at how Muslim women's clothing, especially the hijab, not only functions as an expression of personal religiosity, but also becomes an object of moral regulation, social discipline, and the formation of religious identity in public spaces. This research uses a qualitative approach with a type of literature research combined with socio-legal perspectives and critical social theory. Data were obtained from Islamic legal literature, maqāṣid al-syarī'ah, governmentality theory, and academic studies on hijab regulation, sharia formalization, and religious freedom. The results of the study show that Muslim women's clothing in Islamic law has a normative dimension as part of dress ethics, modesty, and honor guarding. However, in social practice, such norms can shift into control mechanisms when institutionalized through policies, institutional pressures, or enforced standards of piety. The governmentality perspective explains that the regulation of Muslim women's clothing works through the normalization, supervision, and formation of pious female subjects who obey certain moral standards. This study concludes that the regulation of Muslim women's clothing needs to be placed within the framework of maqāṣid al-shari'ah so that it does not stop at symbolic control, but remains oriented towards justice, welfare, religious freedom, and respect for women's dignity.

Abstract

The advancement of modern medical technologies such as health-related artificial intelligence, organ transplantation, neurotechnology, and assisted reproductive technologies has transformed the paradigm of healthcare services while simultaneously giving rise to complex new bioethical challenges in modern society. This situation creates tension between the development of global health ethics based on autonomy, human dignity, and patient rights and the classical fiqh constructions, which tend to be normative-textual. This study aims to analyze the transformation of contemporary fiqh in responding to the developments in bioethics during the era of modern medical technology through an interdisciplinary approach combining Islamic law, maqashid al-shariah, and medical ethics. The study employs a qualitative method with a normative-interdisciplinary approach through documentation studies of scientific journals, fatwas, academic books, and international organizational documents. The research findings indicate that the development of modern medical technology drives a methodological transformation in fiqh from a textual approach to an approach based on the objectives of sharia, public interest, and Islamic bioethics that is more humanistic and contextual. This study concludes that Islamic bioethics is a strategic instrument in maintaining the relevance of contemporary fiqh and recommends strengthening a multidisciplinary approach in formulating modern health law.

Abstract

ndonesia, as a multicultural nation, faces significant complexity in the application of Islamic law, particularly regarding interfaith inheritance. In classical Islamic jurisprudence, religious difference constitutes an absolute barrier to inheritance between Muslims and non-Muslims; however, the application of this rule in a pluralistic society frequently generates tension between religious norms and the values of social justice. This study aims to examine the construction of Yusuf Al Qaradhawi's thought on the concept of justice in interfaith inheritance as a contextual and socially responsive legal solution within the Indonesian context. A qualitative descriptive approach was employed using the biographical-intellectual (studi tokoh) method, with data gathered through analysis of Al Qaradhawi's primary works and relevant academic journals. The findings reveal that Al Qaradhawi offers a contextual re-reading of the prophetic tradition (hadith) prohibiting interfaith inheritance by distinguishing between kafir harbi (non-Muslims at war with Islam) and kafir dzimmi (non-Muslims living peacefully under Islamic governance), thereby permitting Muslims to inherit from non-Muslims, while the reverse may be facilitated through alternative mechanisms such as hibah (gift), wasiat wajibah (obligatory bequest), and social provisions. This framework is grounded in the principles of maslahah (public interest) and substantive justice through the fiqh al-waqi' approach, which integrates textual sources with contextual realities. It is concluded that Al Qaradhawi's thought makes a significant contribution to the reform of Islamic inheritance law in Indonesia in a manner that is just, inclusive, and responsive to the realities of a multireligious society.

Abstract

Gusjigang is widely known as a local philosophy of Kudus that integrates three core values: bagus (good moral character), ngaji (Islamic learning), and dagang (trade or entrepreneurship). In many academic, popular, and institutional narratives, Gusjigang is commonly attributed to Sunan Kudus and presented as part of his da‘wah legacy. However, this attribution raises an important academic issue, particularly because the literal origin of the term Gusjigang has not been sufficiently supported by primary historical evidence from the period of Sunan Kudus. This article aims to examine Gusjigang not as a term that must be proven to have originated directly from Sunan Kudus, but as a form of cultural da‘wah memory that lives within Kudus society. Using a qualitative-critical approach based on literature study and discourse analysis, this article explores how Gusjigang has been constructed, reproduced, institutionalized, and symbolically linked to Sunan Kudus. The findings show that Gusjigang functions as a collective memory that connects morality, Islamic knowledge, and economic ethos with the symbolic authority of Sunan Kudus. This article argues that the significance of Gusjigang lies not merely in the certainty of its terminological origin, but in its social capacity to shape the moral, religious, and economic identity of Kudus society. Therefore, Gusjigang should be understood as a living cultural da‘wah memory rather than simply as a literal historical expression attributed to Sunan Kudus.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the actualization of the Gusjigang philosophy in strengthening human resource management and fostering an Islamic work environment in technology based enterprises in Kudus Regency, Indonesia. The research employed a qualitative approach using a descriptive analytical case study design. Informants were selected through purposive sampling and consisted of four business owners and six employees from technology based enterprises that had been operating for at least three years. Data were collected through in depth interviews, observation, and document analysis, and were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing and verification techniques. The findings reveal that the three core values of the Gusjigang philosophy, namely gus (morality and integrity), ji (learning and spirituality), and gang (entrepreneurship and innovation), are highly relevant to contemporary human resource management practices. The gus value contributes to the development of a workplace culture grounded in trustworthiness, responsibility, and honesty. The ji value promotes a culture of continuous learning that supports both competency development and employees’ spiritual growth. Meanwhile, the gang value strengthens entrepreneurial orientation, creativity, and organizational innovation. The integration of these three values fosters an Islamic work environment that is productive, ethical, and sustainable. This study contributes to the development of the Indigenous Islamic Human Resource Management concept by demonstrating that local wisdom can serve as a strategic source of organizational values in managing technology based enterprises in digital era.

Abstract

Background: The rapid advancement of artificial intelligence (AI) has created transformative opportunities across educational sectors, yet its application within Islamic religious education (IRE) remains insufficiently examined in the academic literature. Purpose: This study systematically reviews existing research on AI integration in IRE, identifying key applications, implementation challenges, and future research directions. Methods: Following PRISMA 2020 guidelines, a comprehensive literature search was conducted across Scopus, Web of Science, Google Scholar, and SINTA databases, yielding 38 studies published between 2018 and 2024 that specifically addressed AI applications within IRE or madrasah contexts. Results: The analysis revealed three principal AI application clusters: (1) intelligent tutoring systems for Quranic recitation and tajweed correction, (2) adaptive learning platforms for Islamic jurisprudence instruction, and (3) natural language processing tools supporting Arabic language acquisition. Key challenges encompass inadequate technological infrastructure in madrasah institutions, insufficient educator digital competency, content authenticity concerns, and tensions between algorithmic personalization and Islamic pedagogical values. Conclusions: AI integration in IRE holds significant transformative potential; however, successful implementation requires culturally sensitive design frameworks, sustained educator professional development, and coherent institutional policies grounded in Islamic educational philosophy. Future research should prioritize empirical outcome measurement and indigenous AI tool development.
