Abstract

This study investigates grammatical omission errors in descriptive writing by second-semester EFL students at Madani Indonesia University. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the research analyzed 45 student-written essays from a mid-term exam. Data were examined using Surface Strategy Taxonomy, focusing specifically on omission errors. The results revealed 239 total omission errors categorized into five types: articles (33.05%), pluralization (21.75%), punctuation (21.33%), verb phrases (12.97%), and conjunctions (10.87%). Article omission emerged as the most frequent. These errors often disrupted clarity, coherence, and grammatical accuracy. Findings highlight the influence of L1 interference and a limited grasp of basic grammar rules. The study underscores the need for focused instruction on articles, plurality, and structure to enhance students’ English writing accuracy and fluency.

Abstract

The expression salt and light of the world in the text of Matthew 5:13-16 is interpreted allegorically as the value of the gospel that is lived throughout life. This value is lived by carrying out the three tasks of Christ as priest, prophet and king in the general priesthood based on the sacrament of baptism. This means that the mission to become salt and light of the world is also carried out by the laity. This ideal insight still has a gap in practice. This happens because of the lack of literacy of the laity about the duties of the general priesthood as priest, prophet and king received based on the sacrament of baptism. This article discusses this problem by examining the text of Matthew 5:13-16 about salt and light of the world. The research method used is the literature review method with descriptive analysis of the allegorical meaning of salt and light of the world, and its inspiration for the mission of the laity in the world order. The result is a growing understanding among the laity to realize their mission in the perspective of becoming salt and light of the world. This understanding will lead to a missionary praxis that is increasingly evident.

Abstract

This study discusses the exploitation and inequality of social protection experienced by Indonesian migrant workers (PMI) in Cambodia, with a perspective of social justice and welfare. While there are more than 131,000 migrant workers working legally in Cambodia, about 80,000 others work illegally in sectors vulnerable to exploitation, such as online gambling and online fraud. This condition puts migrant workers in a particularly vulnerable position to human rights violations, including human trafficking, physical violence, and injustices in wages and working conditions. This study uses a qualitative approach through case studies to analyze the social protection inequality experienced by migrant workers, by examining the real conditions they face. The findings show that weak legal protection systems in both Indonesia and Cambodia exacerbate this inequality. The study suggests the need for stronger bilateral cooperation and strengthening of protection systems for migrant workers, including better migration education in their areas of origin.

Abstract

Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP) is a serious complication in patients receiving mechanical ventilation, as it increases mortality rates and prolongs length of stay in the ICU. Miswak (Salvadora persica L.), known for its antibacterial properties, has been considered as an alternative for oral care. This meta-analysis evaluated the effectiveness of miswak in preventing VAP through three randomized clinical trials that met the inclusion criteria. The findings showed that miswak demonstrated a VAP risk ratio approaching zero compared to chlorhexidine, with fewer adverse effects and better tolerability. The consistency of results across studies indicates potential clinical benefits. The most common regimen was twice daily use during the first three to five days of intubation, which was effective in preventing early bacterial colonization. These findings support miswak as a safe and economical oral care agent, and suggest it as a feasible alternative or adjunct to chemical antiseptics for VAP prevention in the ICU. However, further large-scale, multicenter studies are still needed to strengthen the scientific evidence and support the integration of miswak into evidence-based clinical practice guidelines.

Abstract

This study aims to empirically examine the effect of strength-based parenting on students’ subjective well-being. The background of this research is grounded in the importance of parental roles in providing parenting that not only emphasizes behavioral control but also focuses on the development of children’s potentials, strengths, and abilities. The research method employed was quantitative with a correlational approach to determine the direction and magnitude of the relationship between variables. The instruments used consisted of a strength-based parenting scale and a student subjective well-being scale, both of which had undergone validity and reliability testing. The collected data were analyzed through classical assumption tests, including normality and linearity, followed by simple regression analysis. The results revealed a significant positive relationship between strength-based parenting and students’ subjective well-being. These findings affirm that the higher the implementation of strength-based parenting by parents, the higher the level of students’ subjective well-being, both in emotional aspects and in academic development.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of self-efficacy on athletes’ anxiety in facing competitions at the Satria Agung Pencak Silat Academy. The research employed a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The subjects were 141 athletes selected using simple random sampling. The instruments applied were the self-efficacy scale and the anxiety scale. The findings revealed that self-efficacy significantly influences athletes’ anxiety. Athletes with high self-efficacy tend to manage emotions effectively, display stronger confidence, and experience lower anxiety. Conversely, athletes with low self-efficacy are more vulnerable to anxiety, which may hinder their performance during competitions. These results highlight the importance of psychological development, particularly enhancing self-efficacy, as a strategy to reduce competitive anxiety and support athletes in achieving optimal performance.

Abstract

Food loss and waste (FLW) is a global issue with serious impacts on food security, the environment, and the economy. Indonesia, as the second-largest contributor to FLW in the world, generates 23–48 million tons of FLW per year (2000–2019). This study aims to analyze the causes, conditions, impacts, and policy responses related to FLW in Indonesia using a literature review method and the DPSIR framework (Driving Force, Pressure, State, Impact, Response). The analysis shows that the main driving factors of FLW include population growth, wasteful consumption patterns, inefficiencies in the food supply chain, climate change, and the conversion of agricultural land. The impacts include economic losses of 213–551 trillion rupiahs, loss of nutritional content that could feed millions of people, and a significant contribution to greenhouse gas emissions. Government policy responses, such as Law No. 18/2008 and the Circular Economy initiative, have been implemented but have not yet comprehensively addressed FLW reduction across the supply chain. This study emphasizes the importance of an integrated national strategy to support food security and reduce carbon emissions in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Abstract

The present study aims at examining the use of declarative utterances for implying meaning. This study is qualitative research in which the data are gathered from the subtitle movie “Knight and Day and Day” consisting of declarative sentences. The findings reveal several examples in which declarative utterances are used to imply meaning, suggesting that language has more purpose than simple information exchange. Declarative sentences are not only employed as statements of fact but also as veiled requests or subtle commands. This highlights the dynamic nature of communication, where the intended meaning can differ significantly from the literal words spoken. Listeners cannot just assume that speakers always express themselves literally. Often, the meaning is layered and nuanced, thus requiring the listeners to consider not only the words themselves but also the surrounding contexts. This study suggests that individuals should be aware of the potential meaning implied in speech and seek to understand the speaker’s intended message.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze customer satisfaction at KOMIDA Cooperative Ajibarang by examining the influence of two main factors, namely loan products and service quality. The research adopts a descriptive quantitative approach utilizing the Fuzzy Mamdani inference system for data processing. Data were collected through structured questionnaires and interviews with active cooperative members as respondents. The use of fuzzy logic methods was chosen due to their ability to handle uncertainty and subjectivity in customer perceptions, thereby producing results that more accurately reflect real conditions in the field. The findings reveal that both the offered loan products and the quality of services provided play equally important roles in shaping customer satisfaction. Loan products were assessed as relevant to members’ needs, while services characterized by friendliness, efficiency, and clear communication enhanced the positive experience of members in interacting with the cooperative. Most respondents gave positive, indicating that the cooperative’s services and products have met, and in many cases closely aligned with, their expectations.
