Abstract

The purpose of this research is to describe the results and learning interest of students by applying the Discovery Learning model. This shows an improvement in student learning outcomes with the application of Discovery Learning. This improvement is because students have started to understand the material that has been learned using the Discovery Learning model in phase E. while the data analysis used descriptive methods with the success of student learning activities. And the results of the data analysis showed that the improvement in learning outcomes for class X students at SMAS Islam Darunnajah Sumenep with Discovery Learning on the topic of quantities and units increased from 55% in cycle 1 to 85% in cycle 2, with an overall improvement of 30% between the two cycles. The improvement in learning outcomes indicates that the implemented Discovery Learning can be enjoyable and make students interested and engaged in the learning process.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the moral values ​​contained in the novel The Most Wanted Girl by Quinwriter. This novel was chosen because it is considered to represent various moral aspects that are relevant to social life. A qualitative approach was used in this research with a content analysis method to identify, categorize and interpret the moral values ​​conveyed through the characters, storyline and conflicts presented in the novel. The research results show that the moral values ​​in this novel include the values ​​of sincerity, patience, mutual help, and gratitude. Sincerity is depicted through the behavior of the main character who always tries to be open-minded about what is happening. Dispersion is shown through the characters to protect their families and communities. Please Help appears in interactions between characters who need help in the school environment, while Thanking is shown through the characters' feelings to express their pleasure. Thus, this novel not only provides entertainment, but also provides moral lessons that can be implemented in everyday life. It is hoped that this research can be a reference for readers in understanding moral values ​​in literary works and the importance of applying these values ​​in life. These findings also contribute to literary studies as an effort to preserve the educational function of a work.

Abstract

Online media has become the primary source of information for modern society due to its quick access and ease of news presentation. However, this development also poses challenges, particularly in maintaining writing quality, such as diction accuracy. Appropriate diction plays a crucial role in delivering clear messages, avoiding misunderstandings, and preserving media credibility. This study aims to analyze diction errors in the daily online news jateng.akurat.co edition of November 12, 2024, including non-standard word usage and word mismatches. This research employs a qualitative descriptive method to identify the types of errors, their causes, and their impacts on readers. Data were collected using documentation techniques by observing, recording, and analyzing the news texts published in the selected edition. The analysis process involved comparing diction usage with applicable linguistic norms and relevant contexts. The findings reveal several common errors, such as the use of terms that do not align with formal language norms, inappropriate word choices, and the improper adaptation of foreign words. Diction errors can create reader confusion, diminish media credibility, and affect perceptions of the information conveyed. This study highlights the importance of accurate diction selection in journalism, especially for regionally based media, which must consider cultural contexts and local values. These findings are expected to serve as a guideline for enhancing linguistic accuracy in digital journalism, maintaining media credibility, and supporting journalism's role as a pillar of a healthy democracy.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the ego defense functions used by the character Cinderella in facing oppression perpetrated by her stepmother and stepsisters in the Walt Disney film Cinderella (1950). This study uses a descriptive qualitative approach, namely an approach that focuses on depicting phenomena in depth and systematically. Research data were obtained through analysis of dialogue, storyline, and the behavior of the main character relevant to the focus of the study. The analysis was conducted with reference to Sigmund Freud's psychoanalytic theory, particularly the concept of ego defense mechanisms as a form of individual response to psychological stress. The results of the study indicate that the character Cinderella uses five types of ego defense mechanisms in facing conflict and emotional stress, namely repression, denial, displacement, rationalization, and reaction formation. These ego defense mechanisms play an important role in helping Cinderella maintain emotional stability, manage psychological suffering, and maintain a positive attitude amidst the oppressive situation she experiences.

Abstract

This study analyzes the application of politeness principles in Raditya Dika’s YouTube series Cerita Cintaku using a descriptive qualitative approach within a pragmatic framework. The data consist of 53 utterances collected from four videos, representing Leech’s politeness maxims, including tact, generosity, approbation, modesty, agreement, and sympathy. The findings show that the generosity and modesty maxims are the most dominant, indicating Dika’s consistent effort to maintain ethical and respectful communication by prioritizing audience comfort and feelings. His style reflects empathy, humility, and sensitivity, even when delivering humor in a stand-up storytelling format. These results highlight that entertaining digital content can still uphold politeness values effectively. The study provides useful insights for students, educators, and language researchers in understanding the application of politeness strategies in modern communication contexts. In addition, it offers practical guidance for content creators and public figures to balance engaging content with respectful interaction to build positive and sustainable relationships with audiences in digital platforms today.

Abstract

Communication in digital media, especially YouTube, now plays an important role as a means of delivering educational material to the wider community. Nevertheless, studies on the phenomenon of communication on this platform, especially from the perspective of locutionary acts, are still limited. Philosophy-themed content, which is often considered abstract and complex, requires linguistic analysis to understand effective communication patterns. This study aims to identify and describe various forms of locutionary acts that appear in the “Belajar Filsafat” (Learning Philosophy) playlist on the YouTube channel Satu Persen – Indonesian Life School. This study was conducted using a qualitative descriptive method based on pragmatic theory. Data were collected through observation and note-taking techniques in four videos from the playlist, then analyzed using matching techniques and presented informally. The results of the study show that there are 151 locutionary acts, including 76 declarative acts, 46 interrogative acts, and 29 imperative acts. Theoretically, this study contributes to the development of linguistic studies, particularly in the field of pragmatics that discusses speech acts, while practically, this study can be a reference for students and novice researchers in understanding speech act research methods and the importance of applying effective communication in the realm of digital education.
