Abstract

This research is motivated by the fact that students' mathematical communication skills still need to be improved. This study aims to describe students' written and oral mathematical communication abilities toward solving the Pythagorean theorem problem in terms of field-dependent and field-independent cognitive styles in class VIII-B at SMP Al-Islam Krian. This type of research is qualitative research with a descriptive method. Subjects in this study were taken using a purposive sampling technique after carrying out the GEFT test in class VIII-B of 2 students, each based on field-independent and field-dependent cognitive styles. The instruments prepared in this study were the GEFT test, a mathematical communication skills test, and an oral examination. Based on the analysis of the answer sheets for the mathematical communication ability test and the oral test, it was concluded that students with field-independent cognitive styles have good written or oral mathematical communication skills. This can be seen from students' ability to write down and convey information, solve problems coherently, systematically, and transparently, and draw conclusions correctly. Students with field-dependent cognitive styles need better mathematical communication skills. This can be seen from the ability of students who need help to correctly write down and convey information, problem-solving ideas coherently, systematically, and clearly, as well as conclusions

Abstract

Literacy is essential in preparing for 21st-century life and the significant data era. At the very least, people need the ability to process, analyze, read, and use the data to make decisions. This ability is known as statistical literacy. The students' statistical literacy must be diagnosed well for appropriate learning improvements. This study is qualitative research with a quantitative descriptive approach; the instruments used are AKM (Asesmen et al. - Minimum Competence Assessment) problems and Watson's statistical literacy category. The respondents were 187 students from six schools with different statuses (three state and three private schools) with different abilities (two high-level schools, two medium-level schools, and two low-level schools). The results obtained: there are no students at level 1; 3.07% of students are at level 2; 8.82% 0f students at level 3; 14.84% of students are at level 4; 55.61% of students are at level 5, and 17.65% of students gain level 6. Based on the result, it is evident that the students' statistical literacy spread to several levels. Most of the students are in level 5, and a few can gain the sixth level, but still, there are several students at the third level, even the second level. Those data can be used as preliminary data to improve statistical learning methods and teaching materials and for further research, especially about why and how to increase students' statistical literacy

Abstract

In the digital era, integrating technology into education, particularly in mathematics, is increasingly crucial. This study explores the integration of coding into the secondary school mathematics curriculum to deepen students' understanding and skills. Traditional approaches often fall short in preparing students for 21st-century challenges, emphasizing problem-solving and critical thinking. Using a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method, this research analyzes articles, conferences, and books from the past decade. Inclusion criteria cover studies discussing the application of coding in secondary school mathematics. Data from academic databases such as Scopus, IEEE Xplore, and Google Scholar are processed using thematic analysis to identify recurring patterns. Results indicate that coding integration boosts student interest and motivation, supported by data showing a 20% increase in student engagement in coding-based activities. However, challenges such as the need for teacher training and adaptive curricula are identified. Case studies from several schools show a 15% improvement in problem-solving abilities. This research recommends collaboration between schools, governments, and stakeholders to develop an effective technology curriculum, ensuring students not only master mathematics but are also prepared for the digital era. Limitations include a lack of longitudinal data and implementation variations across contexts. Further research is needed to explore the long-term impact of this integration.

Abstract

The integration of deep learning into university mathematics education presents transformative possibilities. This study conducted a Systematic Literature Review (SLR), examining 80 studies from sources like IEEE Xplore, ScienceDirect, Scopus, and Google Scholar. The focus was on the application of deep learning in formal education, excluding non-educational contexts. Findings indicate that deep learning enhances learning through interactive visualization and simulation tools, with virtual reality applications improving geometry and statistics comprehension by up to 30% compared to traditional methods. Challenges such as limited infrastructure and resistance from lecturers were identified. To address these, the study advocates for regular technology-based training for lecturers and gradual curriculum integration of technology. Strengthening collaboration between universities, the technology industry, and policymakers is recommended to support implementation. Additionally, the proposal of an online evaluation platform is suggested to continuously monitor student competency improvements. A systematic approach to implementing deep learning is anticipated to optimize mathematics education effectiveness in universities, preparing students for complex workforce challenges.

Abstract

Students often need help acquiring information about mathematics delivered in class within a limited timeframe, without the opportunity for repeated discussions or comprehensive review. Additionally, retaining previously taught material might be challenging. Hence, educators must establish efficacious instruction that stems from pioneering pedagogy. One of the advancements is the utilization of educational media. This study examines the existing literature about using video blogs (vlogs) as a medium for educational purposes. This study employs the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology. Data was gathered by systematically collecting and scrutinizing articles about vlogs as an educational medium published between 2013 and 2023. This research utilized eight papers, theses, and dissertations from reputable national journals or conferences. The materials were collected through the Publish or Perish tool. The research findings indicate that including vlog media in the learning process can enhance the efficacy of instruction and positively impact students' learning outcomes. Thus, vlogs can be utilized as an educational tool for mathematics instruction. The essay provides a comprehensive analysis of the practicality of this innovation in enhancing mathematics education.

Abstract

This research aims to describe students' interests and learning outcomes after using the Edmodo application. This type of research is descriptive by categorizing and using a quantitative approach. The subjects of this research were class VIIB students at SMP Negeri 2 Tegalsari. To see students' interest after studying using Edmodo through data obtained from learning interest questionnaires and interviews given to students. Meanwhile, it is obtained from the quiz/test scores to see student learning outcomes. Based on the results of data analysis, it was found that the use of the Edmodo application in mathematics learning went according to expectations seen from student participation from the beginning of the learning activity to the end and was following the RPP, so it could be said to be quite successful. The students' learning interest results are categorized as good because they meet the three predetermined indicators: feelings of joy, attention, interest, and involvement. Student learning outcomes are also classified as having a reasonably good score so that it can be said that students can understand the learning material and solve problems well.

Abstract

This research aims to explore the use of the educational game "MARIO" in improving the cognitive capacity of young children, especially in number recognition. "MARIO" is an acronym for Marble, Number, Recreational, Innovative, and Observation, each element of which is integrated with the game to create a fun learning experience. This research involved 30 students aged 4-6 years in a kindergarten in Jakarta. Data collection is carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation, known as the OWI method. Data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman model which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion. The results showed that the "MARIO" game significantly improved children's cognitive abilities in recognizing numbers. The three stages of number recognition include recognizing numbers through marbles (Marbel), matching numbers with number cards (Numbers), and movement activities involving numbers (Recreative). In the observation stage, children record the results of their play, which helps in understanding the concepts of comparison and measurement. Of the 30 students, 85% showed improvement in basic numeracy skills, with an average improvement of 30% in the basic math skills test. This research concludes that the integration of educational elements in the "MARIO" game is not only effective in improving children's cognitive abilities but also makes the learning process more interesting and enjoyable. Thus, "MARIO" can be recommended as an innovative learning aid for early childhood.
