Abstract

Learning models are techniques used to facilitate children in understanding the material delivered by the instructor. The learning model provided by the teacher to students ensures that their understanding aligns with the material and theme selected. This study aims to measure students' creativity and to determine significant differences in creativity levels between the experimental and control classes before and after applying the Project-Based Learning model and the Guided Discovery Learning model. This research employs an experimental method in the form of a quasi-experimental design. The design used is the nonequivalent control group design, which involves comparing subjects in the control group and the experimental group through pre-tests and post-tests. The results of the study show that students' creativity in the experimental class had an average pre-test score of 53.97, an average post-test score of 84.82, and an N-Gain result of 0.65, categorized as moderate. In the control class, students' creativity had an average pre-test score of 51.63, an average post-test score of 76.06, and an N-Gain result of 0.45, also categorized as moderate. There was a significant difference in students' creativity levels after learning with the Project-Based Learning model using a herbarium book on Pteridophyta material compared to the control group using the Guided Discovery Learning model through plant observation, with a 2-tailed significance value of 0.000 ? 0.005. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis is accepted.

Abstract

Mammals have two main mechanisms for maintaining body temperature: physiological and behavioral mechanisms. Rabbits, as members of the family Leporidae, are endothermic animals that are sensitive to changes in environmental temperature, making body temperature measurements important for assessing their physiological adaptation in captivity. This study aimed to analyze the comparison between environmental temperature and rectal temperature of male and female rabbits at two different locations in East Java, namely Malang City and Malang Regency. The research employed a quantitative approach, collecting rectal temperature data using a digital thermometer and environmental temperature data using an HTC-2 thermometer. Measurements were taken twice daily, in the morning and afternoon, over one month in May 2024. The results showed that the environmental temperature in Malang City (27.0–27.7?°C) was higher than in Malang Regency (22.6–25.3?°C), but both remained within the rabbits’ physiological tolerance limits. The rectal temperature of male and female rabbits ranged from 36.6–38.4?°C, which is still considered normal. T-Test analysis indicated significant differences in environmental temperature (p = 0.018–0.026) and rectal temperature (p = 0.002–0.050) between the two locations. It was concluded that both Malang City and Malang Regency are suitable for rabbit breeding, with the recommendation that future studies should take into account humidity, cage type, and a larger sample size for more comprehensive analysis.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the perceptions of students at SMP Negeri 6 Lubuklinggau regarding the diversity of vertebrate animals, focusing on three aspects: knowledge, attitude, and behavior. The research employed a descriptive quantitative method with the population consisting of all seventh and eighth-grade students in the 2024/2025 academic year. Data were collected using a closed-ended questionnaire designed around the three main aspects, and were analyzed by calculating the mean score and percentage through simple frequency distribution. The results show that the overall average score of students’ perceptions is 3.34 with a percentage of 83.55%, categorized as very good. In terms of knowledge, students demonstrated a strong understanding of the basic classification of vertebrates (highest score 3.55), though many still struggled to distinguish characteristics among different groups (3.19). For attitudes, students responded positively to learning, particularly appreciating the enjoyable teaching methods used by teachers (3.52), although some still found vertebrate concepts difficult to grasp (3.19). Regarding behavior, students showed empathy by having experiences of helping injured animals (3.41), but relatively few had opportunities to observe vertebrates directly outside of school (3.27). Overall, the findings indicate that students’ perceptions of vertebrate diversity are highly positive. However, improvements are still needed through the use of visual media, field observations, and guidance in utilizing credible digital learning resources.

Abstract

Angiosperms are flowering plants whose seeds are enclosed within carpels or fruit structures, and they represent the most abundant and widely distributed group of plants on Earth. Angiosperms play an important role in maintaining ecosystem stability and serve as essential resources for education, ecology, and conservation studies. This study aimed to identify and document the diversity of angiosperm species in the Integrated Laboratory Park of UNIPMA as a potential learning resource for biology education. The research was conducted in October 2025 using an exploratory method combined with direct field observation and in situ plant identification. Data collection involved systematic exploration of the study area and identification of plant species based on morphological characteristics. The results of the study revealed a total of 20 angiosperm species belonging to various families. The relatively high diversity of angiosperms indicates that the environmental conditions of the Integrated Laboratory Park, such as soil quality, light availability, and microclimate, are highly supportive of plant growth and species richness. The findings of this study can serve as a scientific reference for UNIPMA students in recognizing, understanding, and utilizing angiosperm diversity within the campus environment, as well as supporting practical activities and field-based learning in plant biology courses.

Abstract

This review article aims to examine research findings on the macronutrient content (carbohydrates, proteins, and fats) and vitamins of various Indonesian local food products, including analog rice flour biscuits, red dragon fruit crackers, potato balls, instant rice bran porridge, Chaguro seasoning powder, and processed pedada fruit. The review methodology involved the selection of eight national journal articles obtained from academic databases and university lecturer publications. Article retrieval was conducted using the keywords “macronutrients,” “proximate analysis,” and “local food,” covering publications from 2011 to 2025. Inclusion criteria comprised experimental or laboratory-based analytical studies focusing on local food products with reported macronutrient data, while conceptual articles without laboratory analysis were excluded. The review results indicate considerable variation in nutritional composition among local food products. Carbohydrate content was highest in analog rice biscuits (67.19%), protein content was relatively high in potato balls (27% of the recommended daily intake), and fat content was notably high in analog biscuits (18.42%). Fresh pedada fruit showed high carbohydrate content (77.6%) and was rich in vitamin C (56.74 mg/100 g). Overall, the reviewed studies demonstrate a trend toward substituting local ingredients such as cassava, maize, seaweed, pedada, chayote, tuna, and rice bran to enhanceand protein content. However, differences in formulation and analytical methods contributed to variability in nutritional values across studies.

Abstract

Genu varum is a growth disorder of the lower limbs characterized by an abnormal angular deviation between the knee and femur due to rotational changes in the knee joint. Factors such as lower limb development, pathological conditions, and genetic predisposition may influence the occurrence of this condition. This study aimed to identify the inheritance pattern of genu varum through family pedigree analysis in the Jambi region and to examine the influence of environmental factors on its incidence within the local community. This research employed a descriptive cross-sectional design. Data were collected in Jambi City from September to October 2025. Four families were purposively selected based on the criterion that at least one family member had been diagnosed with genu varum. Family history data were used to construct pedigrees, and clinical measurements were performed by assessing intercondylar distance. The results indicated that although genetic factors play a significant role, variations in inheritance tendencies were observed among the four families studied.

Abstract

Research methodology is a crucial element in biology education because it determines the validity and relevance of findings, particularly when choosing a qualitative or quantitative approach. This study aims to analyze and compare the two approaches through a descriptive literature review of 26 scientific articles published between 2022 and 2025, accessed through Google Scholar, Sinta, and ResearchGate. The analysis uses content techniques to identify the characteristics, advantages, disadvantages, and application patterns of each approach. The results indicate that quantitative articles have historically been cited more often than qualitative articles, although recent trends indicate an inappropriate narrowing of citations, indicating a growing appreciation for qualitative research. In terms of quantity, the number of articles is balanced between qualitative and quantitative approaches, with 13 articles each. This finding emphasizes the importance of selecting methods appropriate to the research objectives, and the collaboration of both approaches through mixed-methods research can produce more comprehensive and applicable findings.
