Abstract

This research is motivated by the rapid development of information technology in the Industrial Revolution 4.0 era, which has transformed social interaction patterns into digital-based ones, where social media platforms like YouTube have become crucial tools for modern public education. In this context, the David Wewe Official YouTube channel has emerged as a communication phenomenon that utilizes law enforcement content to provide legal information to the public. This descriptive qualitative study aims to describe the utilization of the channel in efforts to increase legal awareness among the people of Padang City, using data collection techniques such as in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation. The results show that the David Wewe Official YouTube channel has effectively served as a bridge for legal information by implementing the interactive and accessible characteristics of New Media. The use of content that showcases both the humanistic side and the firmness of the police force has successfully built public trust and encouraged audiences to be more law-abiding. Furthermore, the media convergence strategy—achieved by integrating content across Instagram and TikTok platforms—has proven to expand the reach of legal education. Overall, the active engagement of the Padang City community and viewers in the comments section indicates an internalization of the legal messages conveyed, demonstrating that this platform serves not only as entertainment but also as an important instrument in improving the legal literacy of Padang City residents.

Abstract

The increasing use of Instagram among university students has positioned the Instagram feed as a strategic space for presenting identity and constructing self-image in the digital public sphere. As a permanent and curated visual display, the Instagram feed enables students to consciously manage impressions through visual appearance, theme consistency, captions, and audience responses. This study aims to examine whether there is a significant influence of Instagram feed on the self-image of Communication Studies students at Dharma Andalas University. This research employed a quantitative approach using a survey method. The population consisted of 188 Communication Studies students from the 2022–2025 cohorts, with a sample of 66 respondents determined using the Slovin formula and probability sampling technique. Data were collected through a Likert-scale questionnaire and analyzed using simple linear regression, t-test, and coefficient of determination (R²). The results indicate that the Instagram feed has a positive and significant effect on students’ self-image, with a t-value of 12.640 and a significance level of p < 0.001. The regression equation obtained is Y = 7.739 + 0.836X, indicating that every one-unit increase in Instagram feed contributes to an increase of 0.836 in self-image. The coefficient of determination (R²) of 0.714 shows that, specifically for the sample group in this study, 71.4% of the variance in self-image is explained by the Instagram feed, while the remaining 28.6% is influenced by other factors outside this study. Therefore, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) is rejected. These findings confirm that Instagram feed management plays a significant role in shaping students’ confidence, self-perception, and social evaluation in the digital era.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the rapid development of communication technology, particularly the social media platform WhatsApp, which has altered the patterns of interaction and self-disclosure among female adolescents at SMAN 4 Kendari. The phenomenon of excessive disclosure of personal information on social media poses serious risks such as online harassment, cyberbullying, and identity theft. This study aims to describe the stages of self-disclosure among females on WhatsApp and to analyze the impacts or consequences of privacy disturbances experienced by the female students of SMAN 4 Kendari. Using a descriptive qualitative method, data were collected through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using Social Penetration Theory and Communication Privacy Management (CPM) Theory. The results indicate that self-disclosure is carried out gradually through the WhatsApp Status feature, ranging from the orientation stage to the stable exchange stage, where students often use mediators such as quotes or songs to protect their emotional privacy. Although WhatsApp serves as a space for positive self-image validation and strengthening social bonds, such openness also triggers privacy turbulence in the form of bullying and data misuse. In conclusion, the students' level of self-disclosure is at a moderately deep level, and the existence of negative impacts encourages them to evaluate their behavior by tightening their privacy boundaries (boundary thickening).

Abstract

This study discusses the main issue of the influence of BTS K-Pop culture on the formation of self-identity of the Millennial Generation ARMY community in Kendari City, which challenges the assumption that K-Pop fans are limited to teenagers. The goal is to uncover the communication process that shapes this identity in the group born 1981-1996. A qualitative method with a phenomenological approach was used, collecting data from 6 informants (1 admin, 5 married members) through observation, in-depth interviews, and documentation, analyzed through data reduction, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that identity is formed through Michael Hecht's four theoretical frameworks: personal frames (the value of hard work, self-love), enacted frames (fandom language, Korean fashion, social media), relational frames (emotional bonds between members), and communal frames (global social-charity participation). K-Pop influences verbal-nonverbal language, lifestyle, and mindset, supported by social media, community interactions, idol messages, and family.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the perceptions of students from the Da’wah Management Study Program at UIN Raden Fatah Palembang toward the preaching (da’wah) delivered by Denis Lim. Denis Lim’s preaching style is widely recognized as relaxed, communicative, and closely connected to younger audiences, making it an interesting subject of study from the perspective of da’wah students.This research employs a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation involving students who have followed or are familiar with Denis Lim’s preaching. The results indicate that most students have a positive perception of his da’wah, particularly in terms of its clarity, simplicity of language, and ability to relate religious messages to everyday life. However, some students expressed critical views regarding the depth of the material and the tendency toward oversimplification.Overall, Denis Lim’s da’wah is perceived as effective in engaging younger audiences and has the potential to serve as a contemporary model of da’wah in the digital era.

Abstract

This study is based on the phenomenon of changes in the practice of the Lulo Dance, which was previously rich in social and cultural values but is now undergoing a shift due to the passage of time and the influence of globalization. The purpose of this study is to identify shifts in traditional values in the performance of the Lulo Dance and to analyze the factors influencing these shifts in Ambepulu Village, Tongauna Subdistrict, Konawe Regency. This study employs a qualitative approach using the case study method. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. The informants in this study consist of local community members involved in the performance of the Lulo Dance. Data were analyzed through the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the study indicate that a shift in traditional values has occurred within the Lulo Dance, encompassing changes in the community’s values, attitudes, and behaviors. The Lulo Dance, which was once sacred and rich in cultural values, is now more oriented toward modern entertainment. This change is evident in the use of remixed music, changes in costumes, and a diminishing understanding of traditional values among the community.The factors influencing this shift include internal factors, such as changes in public mindset, as well as external factors, such as globalization, social media, and technological advancements. The conclusion of this study indicates that the shift in traditional values within the Lulo Dance represents an adaptation to the changing times; however, preservation efforts are still necessary to ensure that the cultural values it embodies are not lost.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of Instagram Reels utilization strategies and brand identity engagement on product promotion effectiveness for the @yotta_id account. It aims to determine how creative short-form audiovisual content and brand identity consistency strengthen product promotion in Kendari. Using a quantitative method, the research tested variables through primary data collection from 94 students at Nahdlatul Ulama University of Southeast Sulawesi (UNUSRA) who are active Instagram users. Data were analyzed via multiple linear regression using SPSS software. Findings indicate that the Instagram Reels variable, characterized by visual quality and content appeal, partially exerts a significant impact on product promotion. Similarly, brand identity positively influences promotion through two-way interaction between followers and the brand. Simultaneously, both variables significantly drive promotional success for @yotta_id. The study concludes that combining creative content with visual and value consistency is a key factor in digital marketing. These results contribute to communication science literature.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze persuasive communication techniques in da'wah to reduce online gambling practices among the community of Tanjung Raman Village, Pendopo District. The increasing phenomenon of online gambling has become a serious concern due to its impact on social, economic, and moral aspects. This research uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive method. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation involving religious leaders, community members, and individuals who had been involved in online gambling activities. The results show that persuasive communication techniques in da'wah include emotional, rational, and religious approaches. The emotional approach is carried out by appealing to the feelings and personal experiences of the community, the rational approach by providing understanding of the negative impacts of online gambling, and the religious approach by emphasizing religious values and moral consequences. In addition, the use of da'wah media such as sermons, religious gatherings, and interpersonal communication has proven effective in influencing behavioral change in the community. The study concludes that persuasive communication in da'wah plays an important role in reducing online gambling practices, especially when delivered contextually, consistently, and involving credible community figures.

Abstract

This undergraduate thesis is entitled “The Role of Religious Leaders in Addressing Deviant Behavior in Pipa Putih Village, Pemulutan District, Ogan Ilir Regency.” The purpose of this study is to identify the condition of deviant behavior and to examine the role of religious leaders in overcoming such behavior in Pipa Putih Village, Pemulutan District, Ogan Ilir Regency. This research employs a field research approach with a qualitative method. The data sources consist of primary and secondary data. Data collection techniques include observation, interviews, and documentation. Furthermore, the data were analyzed through several stages, namely data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. This study applies the theory of the role of religious leaders proposed by Imam Bawani and the theory of deviant behavior by Narwoko. The results of the study indicate that religious leaders play a significant role in addressing deviant behavior in the community through three main roles. First, the role of regeneration (cadre development), where Islamic religious leaders organize and carry out cadre-building activities within the community. Second, the role of service, where religious leaders actively engage with the community by providing guidance, assistance, and direction toward social improvement. Third, the role of da’wah (Islamic preaching), in which religious leaders strive to prevent inappropriate practices, guide individuals toward the right path, promote constructive ideas in various aspects of development, and raise awareness about achieving a better future life.
