Abstract

Patients with end-stage chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis experience complex lifestyle changes, including fluid and dietary restrictions, dependence on therapy, fatigue, changes in social roles, and psychological distress that affect psychosocial adaptation and quality of life. This literature review aimed to examine the factors influencing psychosocial adaptation among hemodialysis patients and their implications for nursing practice. The review was conducted using PubMed, Scopus, ScienceDirect, ProQuest, MDPI, and BMC databases with keywords related to hemodialysis and psychosocial adaptation. Inclusion criteria were full-text articles published between 2020–2025 in English or Indonesian that discussed psychosocial aspects of hemodialysis patients. Of 326 identified articles, 11 studies were analyzed using a narrative-thematic approach. The findings identified five major themes: illness acceptance, depression and anxiety, social support, burden of physical symptoms, and coping strategies and cultural values. Illness acceptance and social support positively contributed to psychosocial adaptation, whereas depression, anxiety, and physical symptom burden negatively affected patients’ quality of life. Overall, psychosocial adaptation in hemodialysis patients is influenced by psychological, social, physical, and cultural factors. Therefore, nurses should perform routine psychological screening, provide self-management education, strengthen family support, and facilitate adaptive coping strategies to improve patient outcomes.Top of Form

Abstract

Introduction : The advancement of technology in the field of education has encouraged the utilization of Virtual Reality (VR) as an innovative learning method, particularly in nursing education. Objective: This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of VR-based learning compared to conventional methods in improving the clinical skills of nursing students. Methods: This study employed a literature review approach based on PRISMA guidelines, with article searches conducted through PubMed and SINTA databases within the publication period of 2021–2026. A total of 10 journals that met the inclusion criteria were analyzed in this study. Results: The findings indicate that the use of VR significantly improves clinical skills, knowledge, self-efficacy, and professional attitudes of nursing students. In addition, VR provides a more interactive and immersive learning experience, which enhances understanding and information retention compared to conventional learning methods. When compared to face-to-face learning, VR demonstrates equivalent or even superior effectiveness in certain aspects, such as reducing stress levels and increasing learning engagement. However, the combination of VR and conventional methods (blended learning) produces the most optimal outcomes. Conclusion: VR-based learning is an effective and innovative approach in nursing education with great potential to enhance students’ clinical competencies. Therefore, the integration of VR into the nursing education curriculum is highly recommended to support more modern and high-quality learning processes.

Abstract

Introduction: The rapid advancement of information and communication technology has driven a major transformation in global nursing education systems. E-learning represents a learning approach that opens new opportunities for teaching and learning processes across various educational sectors beyond the conventional classroom setting. Nursing education demands comprehensive competency acquisition, encompassing cognitive, psychomotor, and affective dimensions. The acceleration of e-learning adoption became particularly evident during the Covid-19 pandemic, which forced all educational institutions to shift massively to online learning. This study aims to identify and analyze the effectiveness of e-learning on improving the competencies of nursing students. Methods: This study employed a literature review design using a systematic approach guided by the PRISMA framework. Articles were searched from three primary databases, ScienceDirect, PubMed, and Google Scholar covering publications from 2022 to 2026. Based on predetermined inclusion criteria, 10 primary articles were selected for data extraction and synthesis. Results: The review findings indicate that various digital technology-based e-learning platforms have been widely utilized in nursing education, including mobile- and multimedia-based competency evaluation systems, virtual simulation, online learning, immersive virtual reality (VR), LMS-based mobile learning, online cooperative learning methods, and Online Peer Assisted Learning (OPAL). Conclusion: The findings of this literature review indicate that digital technology-based e-learning is effective in enhancing the cognitive competencies of nursing students through flexible and self-directed access to learning materials.

Abstract

Background: Adolescent pregnancy remains a persistent public health concern with adverse consequences on maternal-neonatal outcomes, educational attainment, and psychosocial well-being. Evidence-based education (EBE) has emerged as a promising strategy for improving reproductive health literacy, yet empirical data from junior high school settings in Eastern Indonesia remain limited. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of an evidence-based education intervention on improving knowledge and attitudes regarding early-pregnancy risks among adolescents at SMP Negeri 1 Unter Iwes, Sumbawa Regency. Methods: A quantitative pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest–posttest design was conducted. Fifty seventh-grade students were recruited using purposive sampling based on predefined inclusion criteria. Knowledge and attitudes were measured using structured questionnaires before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using univariate statistics and the Paired Sample t-test at α = 0.05, following a Shapiro-Wilk normality assessment. Results: The proportion of respondents with good knowledge rose from 16% to 70%, and positive attitudes increased from 38% to 82%. Mean knowledge scores improved from 63.20 (pretest) to 84.60 (posttest), while mean attitude scores rose from 64.40 to 79.80. The Paired Sample t-test yielded p = 0.000 (p < 0.05) for both variables, indicating statistically significant improvements. Conclusion: Evidence-based reproductive health education significantly improved adolescents' knowledge and attitudes toward early-pregnancy risks. Integrating evidence-based reproductive health modules into School Health Programs (UKS) is recommended as a scalable promotive-preventive strategy.

Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is one of the most common musculoskeletal disorders experienced by workers, including vegetable farmers in mountainous areas who repeatedly perform strenuous physical activities. Vegetable farmers in Desa Raya, Karo Regency face a high risk of LBP due to hilly working terrain, heavy lifting loads, non-ergonomic working positions, and long working hours. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between individual, ergonomic, and work environment risk factors and the incidence of LBP among vegetable farmers in Desa Raya, Karo Regency. This study used a quantitative approach with an analytical observational design and a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 96 respondents determined using the Lemeshow formula and an accidental sampling technique. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Chi-Square test (Continuity Correction/Fisher's Exact Test) at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that of the 96 respondents, 73 (76.0%) reported LBP complaints. Significant associations were found between age (p=0.008) and length of employment (p=0.043) with the incidence of LBP, while sex showed no significant association (p=0.657). Ergonomic risk factors, namely working position (p=0.242), lifting load (p=0.147), and working duration (p=1.000), as well as work environment conditions (p=1.000), showed no statistically significant associations. This study recommends ergonomic interventions and occupational health education for vegetable farmers to reduce the risk of LBP.
