Abstract

Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive condition characterized by a gradual decline in kidney function, often requiring hemodialysis therapy. One of the most common complications experienced during hemodialysis is muscle cramping, particularly in the lower extremities, which can reduce patient comfort and interfere with the effectiveness of treatment. Intradialytic Stretching Exercise is a non-pharmacological intervention that has been shown to help reduce muscle cramps in hemodialysis patients. To analyze the implementation of Intradialytic Stretching Exercise in reducing muscle cramps among patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis. This case study used an Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) approach involving a CKD patient on hemodialysis who experienced muscle cramps. The intervention consisted of Intradialytic Stretching Exercise performed for 20 minutes, twice a week during hemodialysis sessions. Muscle cramp levels were assessed using the Cramp Questionnaire Chart before and after the intervention. The implementation of Intradialytic Stretching Exercise resulted in a reduction in muscle cramp severity. Previous studies supporting this EBP intervention demonstrated significant improvements in the frequency, duration, and intensity of muscle cramps following regular intradialytic stretching exercises. Intradialytic Stretching Exercise is an effective non-pharmacological intervention for reducing muscle cramps in patients with CKD undergoing hemodialysis. Hemodialysis nurses are encouraged to incorporate Intradialytic Stretching Exercise into routine nursing care and provide patient education to promote regular exercise participation, thereby preventing and reducing muscle cramps during hemodialysis.

Abstract

Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are a major occupational health issue among informal-sector tailors due to prolonged static postures and repetitive movements. This study aims to analyze risk factors associated with MSDs complaints among tailors at Kabanjahe Traditional Market. A quantitative cross-sectional design was applied with total sampling of 63 tailors, using the Nordic Body Map (NBM) questionnaire, Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) worksheet, and a lux meter. Data were analyzed with the Chi-Square test (α = 0.05). The results showed that 63.5% of tailors experienced MSDs. Significant associations were found between MSDs and age (p = 0.020; OR = 4.359), years of service (p = 0.040; OR = 3.667), working duration (p = 0.005; OR = 6.417), and working posture (p = 0.005; OR = 6.417). Sex, lighting, and BMI showed no significant association (p > 0.05). Working duration and posture were the most dominant risk factors. Tailors are advised to improve posture, use supportive chairs, and perform regular stretching to prevent MSDs.

Abstract

Hypertension is a chronic non-communicable disease requiring long-term pharmacological therapy, and medication adherence remains a critical determinant of treatment success. Drug Information Services (DIS) delivered by pharmaceutical personnel at primary healthcare facilities are expected to enhance patients' knowledge, motivation, and adherence to antihypertensive therapy. This study aimed to analyze the relationship between Drug Information Services and medication adherence among hypertensive patients at UPT Puskesmas Sei Semayang, Sunggal District, Deli Serdang Regency. The research applied an analytical observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The population consisted of 300 hypertensive patients, from which 30 respondents were selected using simple random sampling. Data were collected using a validated 16-item Drug Information Service questionnaire and the Morisky Medication Adherence Scale-8 (MMAS-8), and were analyzed with the Spearman Rank Correlation test at a 95% confidence level. The results showed that 76.7% of respondents perceived DIS as good and 23.3% as poor, while adherence was categorized as moderate (46.7%), low (33.3%), and high (20.0%). The Spearman correlation revealed r = 0.118 and p-value = 0.534 (p > 0.05), indicating no statistically significant relationship between DIS and medication adherence. The findings imply that adherence in primary care is influenced by multiple factors beyond DIS alone, underscoring the need for multifactorial and structured pharmaceutical care interventions.

Abstract

Background: The increasing complexity of modern healthcare systems necessitates effective collaboration among healthcare professionals to ensure high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care. In this context, Interprofessional Education (IPE) has emerged as a strategic educational approach aimed at preparing healthcare students with the collaborative competencies required for interprofessional practice. Although numerous studies have reported the benefits of IPE implementation, a comprehensive review is needed to synthesize current evidence regarding its effectiveness in developing collaborative competencies among healthcare students. Objective: This literature review aimed to analyze and synthesize recent evidence on the effectiveness of Interprofessional Education in enhancing collaborative competencies among healthcare students. Methods: This study employed a descriptive literature review approach. Articles were retrieved from Google Scholar, PubMed, ScienceDirect, BMC, and JPKI databases using keywords related to Interprofessional Education, Interprofessional Collaboration, collaborative competence, interprofessional communication, teamwork, and patient-centered care. Article selection followed the PRISMA guidelines. Inclusion criteria included full-text articles published between 2021 and 2025 that examined the implementation of IPE or IPC among healthcare students or healthcare professionals. Of the 100 articles initially identified, 10 studies met the eligibility criteria and were included in the final analysis. Results: The findings demonstrated that the implementation of IPE significantly contributed to improving students’ readiness for interprofessional collaboration, interprofessional communication skills, teamwork effectiveness, understanding of professional roles and responsibilities, and overall collaborative competencies. Furthermore, IPE was found to enhance clinical skills and support the delivery of patient-centered care. However, the effectiveness of IPE implementation was influenced by several factors, including organizational culture, professional stereotypes, hierarchical structures, curriculum readiness, and institutional support within educational and healthcare settings. Conclusion: Interprofessional Education is an effective educational approach for fostering collaborative competencies among healthcare students. Therefore, the systematic, structured, and sustainable integration of IPE into healthcare education curricula is essential to prepare future healthcare professionals who can work collaboratively, improve healthcare quality, and contribute to safe, patient-centered care.

Abstract

Interprofessional Education (IPE) and Interprofessional Collaboration (IPC) are two major pillars of modern health workforce education reform recommended by the World Health Organization since 2010. Although their implementation has rapidly developed in higher health education institutions, the application of IPE and IPC in Indonesian Vocational High Schools of Health (SMK Kesehatan) remains limited. This literature review examines the concepts, theoretical foundations, empirical evidence, barriers, opportunities, and implementation strategies of IPE and IPC within the context of SMK Kesehatan. The method used was a narrative literature review by analyzing articles from PubMed, Cochrane, CINAHL, Springer, Google Scholar, and SINTA databases published between 2010 and 2024. The findings indicate that IPE has been proven to improve collaborative competencies, interprofessional communication, and students’ work readiness. SMK Kesehatan possesses significant strategic opportunities to integrate IPE through the diversity of health-related study programs within one institution, practice-oriented learning approaches, and partnerships with healthcare facilities. The major barriers include curriculum fragmentation, limited availability of IPE facilitators, and differences in professional identity. Recommended strategies include integrating IPE into the Merdeka Curriculum, establishing cross-disciplinary facilitator teams, and developing interprofessional simulation modules based on clinical contexts.

Abstract

Background: Occupational accidents among nurses are a serious concern, given the high exposure to biological, physical, and ergonomic hazards in hospital environments. Nurses face significant risks of needlestick injuries, musculoskeletal disorders, and work-related illnesses. Objective: This study aimed to analyze the prevalence and factors associated with occupational injuries and health problems among nurses at Robert Wolter Mongisidi Hospital, Manado. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted among 102 nurses using a census technique. Data were collected via an online questionnaire (Google Form). Statistical analyses included Chi-square tests, Mann-Whitney tests, and binary logistic regression. Results: The prevalence of occupational injuries was 16% (16/102) and occupational health problems was 19% (19/102). Among those injured, 44% did not report the incident. In multivariate analysis, work unit was the strongest predictor: nurses in outpatient units had odds ratio (OR) 12.37 (95% CI: 1.79–85.66; p = 0.011) and those in intensive/surgical units OR 5.81 (95% CI: 1.16–29.01; p = 0.032) for injuries compared to non-intensive inpatient units. Barriers to PPE use were significantly associated with occupational health problems (OR 3.84; 95% CI: 1.20–12.31; p = 0.024). Shorter work tenure increased the risk of occupational health problems (OR 0.83 per year; p = 0.041). Conclusion: High-risk work units, barriers to PPE use, and shorter work tenure are the main determinants of occupational injuries and health problems among nurses. Strengthening risk-based occupational health and safety programs, optimizing PPE availability and usage, and implementing K3 orientation programs for new nurses are recommended.

Abstract

overlooked among university students. More than 60% of students consistently report poor sleep quality throughout their academic studies. A prior study at FKM Sam Ratulangi University (2020) identified stress as a factor related to sleep quality; however, simultaneous multivariate analysis of multiple determinants remains limited in the Manado region. Objective: To analyze factors associated with sleep quality among students of the Faculty of Public Health, Sam Ratulangi University (FKM UNSRAT), Manado. Method: A cross-sectional observational study was conducted among 256 active students of FKM UNSRAT Manado. Data were collected through an online structured questionnaire via Google Forms from September to December 2025. Statistical analysis using R version 4.5.3 included descriptive analysis, bivariate (Pearson) correlation, multivariate linear regression with stepwise forward selection, and network analysis (Gaussian Markov Random Field with graphical LASSO). Results: The median subjective sleep quality score was 5 out of 10, with an average sleep duration of 6 hours per night. The regression model identified four determinants of sleep quality: sleep duration (β=0.79; 95% CI 0.65–0.93; p<0.001), learning motivation (β=0.26; 95% CI 0.14–0.38; p<0.001), and physical activity (β=0.14; 95% CI 0.03–0.25; p=0.011) showed positive associations; while academic screen time (β=−0.07; p=0.005) showed a negative association. Conclusion: Students' sleep quality is influenced by the complex interaction of health behaviors, academic activities, learning motivation, and digital technology use. Preventive interventions should simultaneously target increased sleep duration, physical activity, learning motivation, and limitation of academic screen time.
