Abstract

Blacksmithing is part of the informal sector that continues to thrive amidst modern industrial development, especially in culturally rich regions such as Tikala District, North Toraja Regency. This sector not only supports the local economy but also represents a vital aspect of cultural identity. However, blacksmithing requires intense physical effort, which may lead to physical fatigue among workers. The aim of this study was to identify the factors associated with physical fatigue among blacksmith workers in Tikala District. This research employed a quantitative design with a cross-sectional approach. A total of 78 respondents were selected using random sampling from 12 blacksmithing sites. Data were collected through interviews using a questionnaire, as well as direct measurements of workplace temperature, age, work duration, and pre-existing medical conditions. Data analysis was conducted using the Chi-Square test to determine the relationship between independent variables and physical fatigue. Univariate analysis showed that 21 respondents (26.9%) experienced physical fatigue. The Chi-Square test results indicated a significant relationship between physical fatigue and environmental temperature (p=0.007), age (p=0.009), work duration (p=0.039), and pre-existing medical conditions (p=0.004). These factors contributed to the increased risk of physical fatigue among blacksmith workers. In conclusion, there is a significant relationship between temperature, age, work duration, and pre-existing medical conditions and the occurrence of physical fatigue among blacksmith workers in Tikala District, North Toraja Regency. Therefore, it is recommended for future researchers to explore other variables such as workload, nutritional status, rest duration, or ergonomic factors to gain a more comprehensive understanding of physical fatigue. Abstract

Avocado leaves contain various compounds that are proven to cause death in Aedes aegypti larvae. In its use has limitations, namely the nature of the extract tends to cause turbidity in water, thus inhibiting the survival of Aedes aegypti larvae. In contrast to Aedes aegypti larvae, Culex sp larvae can live and develop well in dirty water. This study aims to assess the potential of avocado (Persea americana) leaf juice as a biolarvicide of Culex sp. The treatment consisted of five groups of avocado leaf juice concentrations, namely 0% (negative control), 2.5%, 5%, 7.5%, and 10%. Each using 20 Culex quenquefasciatus instar III larvae with replication 6 times. Mortality data of Culex sp larvae exposed to avocado leaf juice for 24 hours were analyzed using Anova test, Bonferroni test, and Probit test. The results showed that the mortality rate of larvae was 12,5%, 25%, 72,5%, and 92,5%, respectively. The Anova test showed that there was a significant difference between the concentrations of avocado leaf juice (p=0.000), the Bonferroni test showed that only the negative control (0%) and the 2.5% concentration, as well as the 2.5% and 5% concentrations, were not significantly different. The LC50 value obtained is 2.338%. It was concluded that avocado leaf juice has the potential as a biolarvicide against Culex sp.

Abstract

Three types of hazardous and toxic waste are separated in hospitals: home garbage, non-infected medical waste, and infectious medical waste. In addition to polluting the environment, improper management of this waste can endanger the health of patients, healthcare workers, and the local population. There are still a number of issues with medical waste management at Dr. Hasri Ainun Habibie Hospital, especially with regard to the collection, sorting, and storage of hazardous waste. The objectives of this study are to assess the hospital's hazardous waste management system, pinpoint its problems, and develop tactical suggestions to increase management efficacy. With 14 respondents, the study employed a descriptive qualitative methodology. The MAXQDA application was used for data processing and analysis in order to produce reliable and organized results. The results of the study show that Dr. Hasri Ainun Habibie Hospital's hazardous waste management system still need work, especially in terms of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory comprehension. Sorting, storing, transporting, and disposing of garbage present the biggest obstacles. Thus, the employment of technology innovation, educational initiatives, and staff skill development are all included in the suggested strategic proposals. It is anticipated that this study will serve as a guide for improving hospital waste management systems. Keywords: B3 Waste, SOP, Hospital

Abstract

Water has become a primary necessity that is essential for humans to carry out their daily activities such as drinking, cooking, bathing, and even industrial processing, so that the function of water is not only limited to economic functions but also social functions. Water quality is determined by several factors, including physical factors such as temperature, turbidity, and dissolved solids. The purpose of this study is to determine the physical, chemical, and bacteriological quality of water in dug wells in Banta-Bantaeng Village, Rappocini District. This study is observational in nature with a descriptive approach. Based on the research, it was concluded that the physical, chemical, and bacteriological quality of dug well water in Banta-Bantaeng Village, Rappocini District, from each examination using 6 samples tested, the physical parameters did not meet the requirements, the chemical parameters met the requirements for each sample, and the bacteriological parameters showed 2 positive results containing MPN Coliform. Based on observations in the Banta-bantaeng Village area, several types of pollutants were found, namely toilets/septic tanks, sewers (domestic waste disposal), and pollution caused by the behavior of facility owners, who often wash and bathe around dug wells, causing the soil to become easily contaminated.
