Abstract

Physical and mental health are two essential aspects that are interconnected in an individual's life. In Islamic teachings, maintaining a balance between the two is highly emphasized to achieve happiness in this world and the hereafter. Dhikr, the act of remembering Allah SWT, not only brings inner peace but also has the potential to improve mental and physical health when combined with proper breathing techniques. This study was conducted in Sedayu Village, Gemuh District, Kendal Regency, where many Muslimat members experience stress and physical fatigue due to their demanding routines. A dhikr-breathing therapy training was introduced as an integrative solution, combining spiritual practices with breathing techniques to enhance participants' well-being. The study employed a qualitative approach, involving 30 participants in the dhikr-breathing training. The results showed that the training effectively reduced stress levels and improved both physical and mental well-being. Although challenges in maintaining consistency were observed, most participants expressed a willingness to continue the practice. Therefore, dhikr-breathing has the potential for sustainable implementation as a practical method for improving the quality of life among Muslimat members.

Abstract

This study aims to improve student learning outcomes in Catholic Religious Education and Character Education through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model based on the Symbolic Way. The issue faced is the lack of active student engagement in Catholic Religious Education classes. The method used in this research is Classroom Action Research conducted in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, action, observation, and reflection stages. The method believed to be effective in increasing student engagement is the Problem Based Learning (PBL) model based on the Symbolic Way. The PBL model allows students to engage in learning knowledge related to the problem and develop skills to solve it, while the Symbolic Way as a learning medium refers to the use of self-symbols, representations, or visual aids that can help students understand more abstract concepts. The results show that the application of the PBL model based on the Symbolic Way significantly enhances student learning motivation. The average score of students in the implementation of PBL in the first cycle was 80, increasing to 90 in the second cycle. Additionally, observations of student activities indicate an increase in active participation during the learning process. Thus, it can be concluded that the PBL model is effective in enhancing students' active participation.

Abstract

This Classroom Action Research (CAR) aims to improve the critical thinking skills and independence of 12th-grade students in Catholic Religious Education through the application of the Problem-Based Learning (PBL) model on the topic of advocating life values in society. Critical thinking skills and independence are essential for students to face the challenges of modern life and build a deeper understanding of the values from Scripture and the Catholic Church's teachings. The study was conducted in two cycles, where each cycle consisted of planning, implementation, observation, and reflection. The research was conducted on 23 12th grade students. Observation sheets, critical thinking, and independence tests were among the instruments used. The study's findings indicate that the PBL model significantly improves students' critical thinking and independence. Cycle I saw a moderate improvement, but Cycle II saw a significant increase in students' critical thinking and independence following adjustments. Students were able to connect the values of Scripture and Church teachings with real-life contexts and became more independent in completing assigned tasks. Thus, the Problem-Based Learning model is highly effective in enhancing students' critical thinking and independence in the topic of life values in society within Catholic Religious Education. The implementation of PBL can continue to be developed to improve the quality of learning and students' life skills.

Abstract

Various national and international studies show that Indonesia has experienced a long learning crisis, especially during the Covid-19 pandemic. To overcome the crisis and various challenges, systemic changes are needed, one of which is through a curriculum that can affect the speed and teaching methods used by teachers to meet the needs of students. In the independent curriculum, students are expected to be able to carry out their own learning process in decision making. In the world of education, critical thinking skills must be possessed by students in facing challenges in the era of globalization. With critical thinking skills, students can analyze information in depth, make decisions based on logical considerations, and solve problems in an effective way. Meanwhile, many students in class VIII of SMP Pangudi Luhur 1 Yogyakarta are still found to be passive in following the learning process. They more often receive information directly from the teacher without doing much analysis or reflection. The learning approach used in schools also tends to be teacher-centered and is dominated by monotonous lectures and assignments, making students less motivated to think critically and creatively. To overcome these problems, it is very important to have innovation in learning methods that can stimulate students' critical thinking skills. One method that is believed to be effective in improving this ability is Problem-Based Learning (PBL) with a window shopping approach. The objectives of the study include (1) to determine the implementation of Catholic Religious Education learning using the PBL model with a window shopping approach in class VIII of SMP Pangudi Luhur 1 Yogyakarta, (2) to determine to what extent learning with the PBL model with a window shopping approach can improve critical thinking skills of class VIII students at SMP Pangudi Luhur 1 Yogyakarta. The type of research used is qualitative. Data collection techniques in this study used observation, documentation, and field notes. The data collection techniques used consisted of data reduction from the field which was recorded in detail and carefully through observation, data presentation in the form of tables, graphs, and diagrams and drawing conclusions from the research results that refer to the formulation of the problem. The use of the Problem Based Learning model with a window shopping approach is effective in helping to improve critical thinking skills of students on the material of the Calling and Mission of Jesus' Disciples in class VIII of SMP Pangudi Luhur 1 Yogyakarta.
