Abstract

The Qur’an is the holy book of Islam revealed in the Arabic language, which is clear and eloquent. To understand the Qur’an properly, one must have a good command of Arabic; without it, the Qur’an cannot be fully comprehended. The Qur’an, which contains teachings on monotheism (tawhid), law (shari‘ah), ethics (akhlaq), and many other aspects, employs various styles of expression to convey its meanings—one of which is majaz (figurative language). The use of majaz in interpreting the Qur’an involves different types, stages of emergence and development, as well as challenges and controversies that arise in Qur’anic interpretation. This study is a descriptive-analytical research. The conclusion of this research is that the majaz approach in Qur’anic interpretation is worth highlighting due to the numerous classifications of majaz and the intricate relationship between literal meaning (haqiqi) and figurative meaning (majazi). In Surah Al-Baqarah, verses 2–5, it is explained that the Qur’an serves as guidance for those who are pious (muttaqin). This article aims to examine the Qur’an as a source of guidance for the pious based on Tafsir al-Jalalayn of Surah Al-Baqarah, verses 2–5. The findings from Tafsir al-Jalalayn indicate that the Qur’an is the Book of Allah that provides guidance for those who are pious. However, contextually, this guidance does not come automatically from Allah SWT; it requires effort from individuals to seek and obtain His guidance. Furthermore, there are factors that can hinder one from receiving guidance (hudan), such as disbelief (kufr), for the hearts of disbelievers are closed to faith, preventing them from receiving guidance from Allah SWT.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of the heart (qalb) in the perspective of Robert Frager as explained in his work Sufi Psychology: For the Transformation of Heart, Soul, and Spirit. Frager, a transpersonal psychologist and modern Sufi, harmoniously integrates Western psychological approaches with Islamic spiritual values. The research employs a qualitative method with a library research approach through the collection, examination, and analysis of various relevant sources. The findings indicate that Frager views the heart as the spiritual center of human existence, functioning as a bridge between the self and the soul, as well as the core of inner awareness that guides human behavior. The heart serves as a vessel of divine love, wisdom, and light that shapes one’s spiritual consciousness and moral awareness. The purification of the heart through spiritual disciplines such as dhikr (remembrance of God), muhasabah (self-reflection), fasting, and self-control leads individuals toward physical, psychological, and spiritual harmony. Frager’s thought contributes significantly to the development of modern Sufi psychology that emphasizes inner healing, spiritual development, and self-transformation. His perspective provides a holistic understanding of human existence by integrating spiritual and psychological dimensions, helping modern individuals achieve serenity, self-awareness, and closeness to God in a materialistic and fast-paced world.

Abstract

Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mengkaji praktik penafsiran yang dilakukan oleh Sayyid Quthb dan Wahbah Az-Zuhaili terhadap surah At-Taubah ayat 103. Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah kajian kepustakaan (library research) dengan menggunakan kitab Tafsir Fizilalil Al-Qur`an dan Tafsir Al-Munir sebagai sumber primer. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa dalam melakukan praktek penafsiran terhadap surah At-Taubah ayat 103, Sayyid Quthb dan Wahbah Az-Zuhaili memiliki pandangan yang berbeda. Sayyid Quthb cenderung mengemukakan karakterisktik seni, kemudian gaya yang dipakai Al-Qur`an dengan gaya yang khas dan singkat. Sedangkan Wahbah Az-Zuhaili dalam penafsiran ayat ini dengan luas dan terperinci dan juga memunculkan aspek fikh dan hukum-hukum terlebih surah At-Taubah 103 ini membahas tentang zakat. Walapun demikian tetap memberikan perhatian khusus kepada aspek balaghaah, (kebahasaan), (qiraat).

Abstract

Character education is a crucial aspect in shaping individuals with noble morals and behavior aligned with higher values. The Qur’an, as the guiding principle for Muslims, contains fundamental principles of character education. This study examines Surah Al-Qalam, verse 4, which emphasizes the importance of integrity, patience, and steadfastness in facing trials, as well as Surah Al-Baqarah, verse 177, which highlights faith, honesty, social care, and righteous deeds as manifestations of true virtue. The analysis employs a thematic tafsir approach to explore the character values contained in both verses. The findings suggest that character education in the Qur’an encompasses not only internal development, through the cultivation of faith and morality, but also external aspects, including concern for others, justice, and social righteousness. These findings suggest that integrating Qur’anic values into character education can shape individuals who are balanced in spirituality, morality, and social responsibility.

Abstract

The foundation of education in the Qur’an emphasizes that the entire learning process must be based on tawhid guiding humans to recognize and serve Allah SWT. Education encompasses the integrated development of spiritual, intellectual, moral, and social aspects to produce knowledgeable individuals with noble character. Humans are regarded as the primary subjects of education, serving both as Allah’s servants and as stewards (khalifah) on earth. This study employs a library research method, an approach that examines various written sources such as the Qur’an, tafsir, scholarly books, journals, and other relevant academic works. The results indicate that education in the Qur’an is comprehensive, covering spiritual, intellectual, moral, social, and practical dimensions, all grounded in tawhid. Its purpose is to cultivate individuals who are faithful, virtuous, knowledgeable, and socially responsible as stewards of the earth. Beneficial knowledge, proper manners in seeking it, and a wise learning process are key to achieving holistic education.

Abstract

This study examines the relevance of Maqashid al-Syari'ah Jasser Auda's thinking in the context of the economic empowerment of the ummah in the contemporary era. Jasser Auda offers a systemic approach to maqashid that is more comprehensive than the classical approach, emphasizing holistic dimensions, openness, interconnectedness and multidimensionality. This study uses a qualitative method with a descriptive-analytical approach through literature studies. The results of the study show that Jasser Auda's maqashid approach is very relevant to overcome the complexity of contemporary economic problems, such as structural poverty, economic inequality, and digital economic challenges. The concept of empowerment in maqashid includes economic, political, and psychological dimensions. In the economic dimension, empowerment means providing access to capital, markets, technology, and knowledge. In the social dimension, empowerment means strengthening social networks and social capital that support economic activities. In the political dimension, empowerment means giving a voice and participation in economic decision-making. In the psychological dimension, empowerment means building self-confidence and self-efficacy.

Abstract

The phenomenon of denial of the Sunnah, namely the rejection of the authority of hadith as a source of Islamic teachings, has become a crucial issue in contemporary hadith studies. Although it emerged more strongly in the modern era, the seeds of similar thinking have been criticized by classical scholars. Ibn Hazm al-Andalusi (d. 456 AH) is one of the important figures who emphasized the position of hadith in the structure of Islamic law. Through his monumental work, al-Iḥkām fī Uṣūl al-Aḥkām. This study aims to highlight the importance of this Andalusian scholar's contribution to maintaining the methodological foundations of Islam. The method used in this study is qualitative with a literature study approach, examining Ibn Hazm's texts and comparing them with discourses on denial of the Sunnah in both classical and modern traditions. The results show that Ibn Hazm not only rejected the attitude of denial of the Sunnah but also offered a systematic framework of ushul fiqh to maintain the authority of hadith. These findings emphasize the relevance of Ibn Hazm's thought to contemporary discourse, particularly in facing the wave of criticism of hadith. Thus, this study highlights the importance of the contributions of Andalusian scholars in maintaining the continuity of Islamic epistemology.

Abstract

This study analyzes how the Quran positions gender issues, focusing primarily on the concept of equality and justice in the relationship between men and women. This research applies a descriptive-analytical method through a thematic interpretation (maudhu'i) approach, which comprehensively examines the sacred verses that address the dynamics of gender relations. The research findings indicate that the holy book affirms the essential equality of men and women in terms of humanity, spirituality, and moral obligations. The differentiation identified in the texts is not intended to demonstrate the supremacy of one gender, but rather illustrates the distribution of societal roles that are contextual and pragmatic in nature, in accordance with the social situation at the time of revelation. Therefore, interpretation of the texts governing gender relations requires a comprehensive approach, taking into account the historical background, linguistic studies, and the objectives of Islamic law (maqasid al-shari'ah). This comprehensive approach is essential so that the interpretation of gender issues in the holy book does not fall into mere literal interpretation but rather conveys a universal message about the principle of justice and human equality before God.

Abstract

This study examines the values of aqidah education contained in three key Qur’anic passages: Surah Al-Ikhlas, Surah Al-Fatihah, and Surah Al-Baqarah verse 255 (Ayat al-Kursi). Aqidah serves as the fundamental basis of a Muslim’s character and religious integrity; therefore, understanding Qur’anic guidance on correct belief is essential. This research aims to describe the core theological principles presented in the three verses and to analyze their relevance for strengthening Islamic faith in contemporary life. Using a qualitative descriptive method through textual and thematic analysis, this study explores the concept of pure monotheism in Surah Al-Ikhlas, the principles of servitude, gratitude, reliance, and guidance in Surah Al-Fatihah, and the affirmation of Allah’s sovereignty, eternal power, and protection in Ayat al-Kursi. The findings indicate that these three verses collectively provide a comprehensive framework for aqidah education that shapes a firm, sincere, and God-centered personality. They also demonstrate that internalizing the Qur’anic values of monotheism contributes significantly to protecting Muslims from deviant ideologies, cultivating spiritual resilience, and strengthening religious commitment in everyday life. Thus, Qur’anic-based aqidah education remains essential for developing faithful, morally grounded, and spiritually aware individuals.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the role of Islamic religious education in shaping students' character in the digital era. This research involves a literature review by exploring relevant research results and articles, and identifying implications for the world of education. The results show that Islamic religious education plays a crucial role in shaping students' character in the digital era. In the context of the digital era, Islamic religious education not only teaches religious values but also involves ethical and moral learning for students. This study reveals that Islamic religious education is able to teach students moral values, develop digital ethics, and build spiritual awareness in the use of technology. This research is important for educational institutions and teachers to know and understand so they can develop effective strategies for shaping students' character to be responsible, ethical, and possess integrity in life in this digital era.
