Abstract

This research explores the critical role of family resilience in addressing the challenges of the contemporary era, characterized by shifting values, a consumptive lifestyle, and the erosion of social bonds due to globalization and technological advancements. Surah At-Tahrim, Verse 6, offers a significant Islamic framework for fostering family resilience. The central research question addresses how strategies for family resilience can be formulated in the contemporary context based on interpretations of Surah At-Tahrim, Verse 6, as presented in Tafsir Al-Azhar and Tafsir Ibnu Katsir. This study aims to analyze and formulate strategies for enhancing family resilience through a comparative examination of these two interpretations. Utilizing a qualitative methodology with a library research approach, the study employs content analysis, comparative analysis, and hermeneutic analysis to examine the interpretations offered by Tafsir Al-Azhar and Tafsir Ibnu Katsir. The findings reveal that both interpretations underscore the importance of family education, parental role modeling, protection against negative influences, and continuous spiritual development as fundamental strategies for fostering family resilience. However, a notable divergence is observed in their contextual approaches: Tafsir Al-Azhar exhibits a greater adaptability to modern challenges, while Tafsir Ibnu Katsir remains anchored in a more textual and traditional interpretive stance. The study concludes with the formulation of family resilience strategies that include strengthening spiritual foundations, fostering effective communication, building economic resilience, and adapting to technological changes. Contribution: This study enriches the field of Quranic exegesis and Islamic studies by highlighting the interplay between traditional and contextual interpretations, demonstrating how classical and modern tafsir can inform contemporary family resilience strategies.

Abstract

Abstract: This study revisits the concept of 'kafir' in the Qur'an by conducting a comparative analysis of two prominent exegeses: Marah Labid and the Ministry of Religious Affairs' Tafsir. The objective is to explore how different interpretative frameworks affect the understanding of 'kafir' and its implications for contemporary Islamic thought. The research addresses a significant gap in the literature, as most existing studies focus on either classical or modern interpretations without comparing traditional and state-sanctioned exegeses. The study employs a qualitative content analysis method, systematically comparing the thematic and contextual interpretations in both tafsirs. The findings reveal substantial differences in the conceptualization of 'kafir,' with Marah Labid providing a more traditional and juridical perspective, while the Ministry of Religious Affairs' Tafsir emphasizes a contextual and inclusive approach. These results suggest that contemporary exegesis can influence socio-political attitudes towards non-Muslims, highlighting the dynamic nature of Qur'anic interpretation. Theoretically, the study contributes to the discourse on tafsir by demonstrating the fluidity and adaptability of Islamic exegesis in response to evolving socio-political contexts. The findings encourage further exploration of how institutional and historical contexts shape religious interpretations, ultimately affecting both theological understanding and practical engagement with religious diversity. Contribution: This study contributes to the field of Qur'anic exegesis by revealing how different interpretative frameworks in traditional and state-sanctioned tafsir influence the understanding of 'kafir' and its implications for contemporary Islamic discourse.

Abstract

This study aims to explore the phenomenon of flaunting wealth, commonly referred to as "flexing," through the lens of the Maqasidi interpretation framework developed by Abdul Mustaqim. The research seeks to elucidate the intended message behind the Qur’anic narrative of Qarun in Q.S. Al-Qashas: 76–82 and to uncover the Maqasidiyyah (objectives-based) values embedded within the text. Employing a qualitative library research approach with a descriptive-analytical method, the study uses primary data from the Qur’anic verses and secondary sources such as classical and contemporary tafsir literature, dictionaries, and academic articles. The findings reveal that the story of Qarun serves as a warning against excessive attachment to wealth, arrogance, and the neglect of social empathy. When contextualized within the modern phenomenon of flexing, the narrative highlights several key Maqasid al-Shariah, including Hifz al-Din (preservation of religion), Hifz al-Mal (preservation of wealth), Hifz al-Aql (preservation of intellect), and Hifz al-Nafs (preservation of life). In addition, the study identifies practical ethical values such as al-Insaniyah (humanity), al-Musawah (equality), and al-Mas’uliyyah (responsibility) that are relevant to contemporary societal behavior.Theoretically, this research demonstrates the potential of Maqasidi interpretation to serve as a dynamic framework for contextualizing Qur’anic teachings in light of evolving socio-cultural phenomena. Contribution: The study contributes to the growing body of literature on contemporary Qur'anic interpretation by bridging classical scriptural meanings with modern ethical challenges, particularly in relation to consumerism and identity expression in digital culture.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the implementation of the concepts of balance and justice in Islamic financial institutions in Aceh, focusing on their role in promoting not only economic benefits but also fairness and social welfare. Using a qualitative descriptive approach supported by field data and document analysis, the research explores the opportunities and challenges encountered in operationalizing these values. The findings reveal several opportunities, including enhanced public trust, local economic development, and increased financial system stability and resilience. However, the study also identifies significant challenges such as limited public understanding and education, inadequate infrastructure and technology use, shortage of qualified human resources, suboptimal regulatory oversight, competition with conventional financial institutions, socio-cultural constraints, and difficulties in product implementation. To address these issues, the study proposes several strategies: adherence to sharia principles in operations and transactions, comprehensive sharia-based supervision, community outreach and education, collaborative initiatives with governmental bodies, innovation in sharia-compliant financial products, robust risk management, and a firm commitment to social responsibility. Contribution: This study contributes to the discourse on Islamic finance by emphasizing the practical integration of maqashid al-shariah in institutional governance. It also provides insights for policymakers and practitioners seeking to strengthen the role of Islamic financial institutions in achieving socio-economic justice in regional contexts.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the concept of 'Ain disease from the perspective of the Qur'an and Hadith, as well as its implications for mental health in the contemporary era. In the modern context, phenomena such as jealousy and envy, often triggered by exposure to social media, can affect an individual's mental well-being, leading to stress, anxiety, and depression. The data used in this research was obtained through literature studies on Qur'anic texts, Hadith, and contemporary psychological studies related to mental disorders influenced by social factors. This research employs a qualitative approach with a hermeneutic method to analyze the understanding of 'Ain disease and explore its connection to current psychological symptoms. The findings show that 'Ain disease, as a manifestation of the negative effects of jealousy, is closely related to the mental disorders commonly experienced by modern society. The social stigma surrounding 'Ain disease further exacerbates this condition, as many individuals are reluctant to seek psychological help. Therefore, a holistic approach that integrates spiritual and psychological understanding, as well as raising awareness about mental health, is essential to mitigate the negative effects of 'Ain disease. Contribution: This research contributes to the development of mental health studies within religious and contemporary contexts, highlighting the importance of integrating spiritual and psychological approaches in addressing mental health challenges in society.

Abstract

This article examines the political strategies of Prophet Yusuf as recorded in the Qur'an, focusing on leadership and conflict resolution, as well as their relevance to the phenomenon of dynastic politics in Indonesia. Although Muslims regard the Qur'an as a guide, their understanding of its political aspects remains limited. The story of Prophet Yusuf in Surah Yusuf offers valuable lessons on political strategies based on ethics and wisdom. This study employs a library research approach with a thematic tafsir method, analyzing various exegetical perspectives on the verses describing Yusuf's political strategies. The findings reveal that Yusuf implemented several political strategies relevant to the context of dynastic politics, namely: first, the politics of reciprocal obligation, where he repaid ill treatment with kindness to build long-term influence. Second, the politics of desire, by creating dependency so that others would follow his will. Third, the politics of scenario, which involved strategically setting situations so that opponents would accept the prevailing rules. Fourth, the politics of control, in which Yusuf carefully managed the narrative and actions of his adversaries. Fifth, the politics of identity declaration, where he revealed his true identity at the right moment to maximize acceptance. Sixth, the politics of accommodation, which ultimately led his brothers to submit and join him in Egypt. Yusuf's political strategies reflect a form of leadership that prioritizes wisdom, strategic planning, and conflict management. In the context of dynastic politics in Indonesia, similar strategies can be observed in how political elites build influence, maintain power, and manage both support and opposition. Contribution: This study contributes to understanding how Qur'anic values can serve as a reference for contemporary political analysis.

Abstract

This study examines the Qur'anic perspectives on interfaith relations in the contemporary world, emphasizing the relevance of its principles in addressing modern pluralistic societies. Islam, as a divinely revealed religion, acknowledges the existence of other faiths while upholding the theological stance that Islam is the only religion approved by Allah. The Qur'an recognizes religious diversity as part of divine will and explicitly rejects coercion in matters of belief, positioning the prophets solely as conveyors of God's message. Employing a thematic interpretation (tafsir maudhui), this study systematically collects and analyzes Qur'anic verses related to interfaith relations. This method enables a structured and comprehensive understanding of key principles such as tolerance, peace, equality, deliberation, and justice. The analysis reveals that the Qur'an promotes peaceful coexistence and ethical engagement with non-Muslims while maintaining doctrinal exclusivity in matters of faith (aqidah). Theoretically, this study enriches discussions on Qur'anic hermeneutics by contextualizing interfaith themes within contemporary realities. Practically, it offers insights for policymakers, religious leaders, and scholars seeking to promote constructive interfaith engagement based on Islamic teachings. Contribution: The findings contribute to contemporary Islamic discourse by demonstrating how Qur'anic principles can serve as a foundational framework for fostering interreligious dialogue and social harmony in an era of increasing global religious diversity.

Abstract

This study examines the tradition of reciting Wirdul Lathif dhikr at Madras Raudhatuzzahro Palembang within the framework of Living Qur’an. The research aims to understand the process of reciting Wirdul Lathif, how it has developed into a tradition, and how the female students (santriwati) perceive and respond to this practice. This study employs a qualitative method with a Living Qur’an approach and a field research design. Data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation. The findings reveal that the Wirdul Lathif dhikr tradition undergoes an externalization process from teachers to students, followed by objectivation through the teaching of texts, sanad (chain of transmission), and recitation methods, and ultimately internalization by the female students. This process transforms Wirdul Lathif into a collective practice performed every Wednesday before the Asr prayer. Furthermore, the study identifies three types of reception among the female students: exegetical reception (understanding its meaning and theological foundation), aesthetic reception (appreciating the beauty of the recitation), and functional reception (applying it in daily life). Contribution: Theoretically, this study contributes to Living Qur’an research by demonstrating how wirid and dhikr texts are not only memorized and recited but also shape the religious patterns and spirituality of Muslim communities. This study also enriches the understanding of how Qur'anic reception manifests in communal religious practices.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the Islamic perspective on hoaxes and explore Qur'anic solutions for building a society resistant to misinformation. The phenomenon of hoaxes has existed throughout history, driven by various interests, as seen in the hadith al-ifk incident, where Siti Aisyah, the wife of the Prophet Muhammad, was falsely accused of adultery by hypocrites to divide the Muslim community. In the contemporary era, hoaxes have become deeply embedded in society due to the rapid dissemination of misinformation through social media, leading to significant individual and societal harm. This research employs a qualitative approach with a library research method, utilizing normative and sociological theological perspectives. The data collection technique follows a heuristic model, while data analysis is conducted using a descriptive approach. The findings indicate that the Qur'an provides clear guidance on countering hoaxes by emphasizing the obligation of tabayyun (verification) and ethical communication. The study also highlights that hoaxes not only harm individuals but also destabilize societal and state structures. Therefore, fostering an anti-hoax society requires internalizing Qur'anic ethical principles that encourage truthfulness, critical thinking, and responsible communication. Contribution: Theoretically, this research contributes to Islamic studies by integrating normative Qur'anic principles with contemporary social issues, demonstrating the Qur'an’s relevance in addressing modern challenges. Furthermore, the study offers practical insights for developing a resilient society capable of resisting the spread of misinformation.

Abstract

One of the challenges faced by contemporary Muslims is the relevance of classical Qur'anic interpretation in addressing modern issues. This study examines Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy's interpretation of QS. Luqman (31):6 through the lens of Gadamerian hermeneutics, particularly in the context of contemporary entertainment discourse. The verse, often associated with prohibitions on futile speech and entertainment, has been widely debated in Islamic scholarship. This research employs a text-based qualitative method, utilizing Gadamer's philosophical hermeneutics-especially the concepts of the "fusion of horizons" and historical consciousness-for an in-depth analysis. The findings reveal that Hasbi Ash-Shiddieqy's interpretation is influenced by his historical background, including his academic training and the impact of Tafsir al-Maraghi, which shaped his pre-understanding (Vorverständnis). However, in his interpretive process, Hasbi remains committed to the primary meaning of the text, defining lahw al-hadith as anything that distracts from virtue. In contemporary contexts, this concept can extend to modern entertainment, including social media, when it leads individuals away from religious and moral values. Hasbi's approach demonstrates an effort to balance textual fidelity with contextual adaptation, offering insights into how classical interpretations can remain relevant in contemporary ethical and cultural debates. Contribution: This study contributes to the discourse on Qur'anic hermeneutics by illustrating how Gadamerian principles can help reinterpret classical exegesis to address evolving societal challenges.
