Abstract

The flash flood that struck Garoga Village, Batang Toru District, South Tapanuli Regency, North Sumatra, on November 25, 2025, was one of the most severe hydrometeorological disasters in the region over the past three decades. The disaster caused 43 fatalities, displaced hundreds of residents, and cut off road access for 23 days. Studies indicate that the disaster was triggered by severe ecological degradation in the upper Batang Toru Watershed, including 72,938 hectares of deforestation between 2016 and 2024 and the absence of an integrated watershed monitoring system at the village level. This community service program aimed to implement a WebGIS-based Integrated Watershed Management Information System (SIMDAST), develop a participatory spatial watershed database, and strengthen community capacity in watershed monitoring and flood preparedness. Activities included field surveys, hydrological data collection, Sentinel-2 land cover mapping, WebGIS development, and participatory training involving 20 participants. SIMDAST was successfully implemented with five functional modules. Spatial analysis identified 138 hectares of critical land requiring rehabilitation, while forest cover remained only 31% of the watershed area. Furthermore, 87% of participants were able to operate the system independently, with knowledge scores increasing by 114.7%. SIMDAST proved effective in supporting community-based watershed management and improving flood preparedness.

Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance elementary school teachers' competencies in developing digital learning modules based on Angkola local culture using Artificial Intelligence (AI). The program was conducted at SD Negeri 200301 Padangsidimpuan from 20–22 May 2026 and involved six teachers. The implementation consisted of needs assessment, training, mentoring, hands-on module development, classroom implementation, and evaluation through pretests, posttests, product validation, and participant satisfaction questionnaires. The program results indicated improved teacher competencies in utilizing AI to develop digital learning materials and greater understanding of integrating Angkola local culture into social studies instruction. All participants successfully produced digital modules containing contextual learning materials, learning activities, assessments, and local cultural values. Product validation demonstrated that the modules met the required standards for content, presentation, language, and media design, making them suitable for classroom implementation. Overall, the program provided practical experience in the responsible use of AI while producing innovative, contextual teaching materials that support the preservation of local culture through education.

Abstract

The development of digital technology and the internet requires businesses, including livestock businesses, to adapt to improve their performance and sustainability. Laying hen and turkey farmers in Karang Hamlet, Tuksongo Village, Sentolo District, as community service partners, face production management challenges such as feed control, livestock health, financial management, and traditional marketing management. One of these challenges stems from the low digital literacy of owners and employees. With 440 laying hens and 50 turkeys, all operational and marketing management has not yet utilised digital technology. This community service activity aims to improve the understanding and application of digital literacy in production and marketing management. The methods used include training in the application of digital applications in production management and marketing design using the internet and social media. The results of the activity indicate an increase in the understanding of farm owners and managers in production management (85%) and digital marketing management (90%). This increased understanding of digital literacy has proven to improve production aspects and better preparedness for development in marketing aspects.

Abstract

The use of interactive digital learning media in elementary schools is still not optimal, so learning tends to take place conventionally and does not create a fun learning atmosphere. This condition is also found among teachers at Muhammadiyah Elementary School in Purworejo, who still have limitations in understanding the concept of fun learning and utilizing game-based learning platforms. This community service activity aims to improve teachers' knowledge and skills in implementing Educaplay as a support for fun learning. The methods used include needs observation, socialization, training, demonstrations, direct practice, mentoring, and evaluation using questionnaires before and after the activity. The activity was attended by nine teachers at Muhammadiyah Elementary School in Purworejo. The results of the activity showed an increase in teacher competency across all measured indicators. The average understanding of the concept of fun learning increased from 1.56 to 3.78, understanding of the function of Educaplay as an interactive learning medium reached an average of 3.67, the ability to create interactive quizzes increased from 1.78 to 3.89, insight into digital learning media increased to 3.78, while ease of understanding the material obtained an average of 3.83. All indicators were in the very good category after the implementation of the activity. Thus, the socialization and training of Educaplay implementation has proven effective in improving teacher competence in developing interactive digital learning media, thereby supporting the creation of fun, innovative, and student-centered learning in elementary schools.
