Abstract

As the global population ages, the intersection of systemic health, polypharmacy, and oral pathology presents a growing challenge for geriatric care. In elderly populations, oral health is often a reflection of systemic well-being, where chronic diseases and their pharmacological treatments directly modify the oral environment. This study aimed to provide a diagnostic overview of the oral health status—specifically dental caries experience and oral mucosal lesions—among a geriatric and pre-geriatric cohort in Randegansari, Gresik. A descriptive cross-sectional study was conducted involving 35 respondents (62.9% female; 37.1% male). Clinical examinations were performed to determine the Decayed, Missing, and Filled Teeth (DMF-T) index and to identify Oral Mucosal Lesions (OMLs). Systemic health history and routine medication use were also recorded to contextualize clinical findings. The mean DMF-T score for the population was 6.86, categorized as "Very High" according to WHO severity scales. The index was dominated by the Decayed (4.29) and Missing (2.51) components, while the Filling component was remarkably low (0.06). Systemic comorbidities were prevalent, with Diabetes Mellitus (34.3%) and Hypertension (25.7%) being the most frequent, accompanied by high rates of polypharmacy (71.4%). Notably, 100% of respondents exhibited oral mucosal findings, with Coated Tongue being the most ubiquitous lesion across all age and gender groups. There is an urgent need for integrated geriatric health programs that prioritize biofilm control, tongue hygiene, and minimally invasive restorative interventions to prevent further dental loss.

Abstract

This community service activity aims to improve the basic English communication skills of the community in Tenjolaya Village, Rancabali District, Bandung Regency, in supporting the development of a nature- and culture-based tourism village. The method used is an interactive, practice-based training with a participatory approach, which includes material delivery, conversation simulations (role-play), and evaluation through pre-test and post-test. The main material focuses on basic skills in greeting and welcoming tourists, self-introduction, and providing simple information related to tourism services. The results show an improvement in participants’ understanding and communication skills, as indicated by higher post-test scores compared to pre-test results, as well as increased confidence in conversational practice. The implementation of the activity ran well and smoothly without significant obstacles, with a high level of participant engagement. However, the limited duration of the training, which was conducted in only one day, became a constraint in deepening the material. Therefore, a continuous follow-up training program is needed to strengthen participants’ competencies. Overall, this activity makes a positive contribution to enhancing human resource capacity and supports the development of Tenjolaya Village as a competitive and sustainable tourism village.

Abstract

The Mulyaharja AEWO (Organic Agro-Edu-Tourism) tourism village in Bogor City is a developed tourism village that integrates organic farming education, environmental conservation, and local economic empowerment. Community Service (PKM) mentoring is carried out by academics and the government to improve community capacity, attraction management, tourism product diversification, and digital promotion. The PKM method uses a participatory approach, including socialization, managerial training for managers, training in typical/traditional culinary processing, MSME training, homestay socialization and standardization, exploration of village tourism potential, and social media training as a promotional tool. The mentoring results show an increase in human resource capacity, service quality, tourism product diversification, implementation of homestay standards, digital promotion capabilities, and awareness of environmental sustainability. The impacts of PKM include local economic growth, community empowerment, cultural and environmental preservation, and the development of independent and educational tourism villages. This paper presents an effective community participation-based PKM model for the development of sustainable tourism villages in Indonesia.

Abstract

Falls remain one of the most frequent health concerns among older adults, often affecting mobility, independence, and overall well-being. Limited understanding of fall risk factors may increase the likelihood of accidents and reduce participation in daily activities. This community service activity was conducted to improve older adults’ knowledge of fall prevention, safe movement, mobility maintenance, and productive aging. The program took place on June 2, 2026, at RPTRA Masudela, Sawah Besar District, Central Jakarta, and involved 30 female participants aged 60–68 years. The activity consisted of health education sessions, interactive discussions, balance and mobility exercise demonstrations, and knowledge assessments using pre-test and post-test questionnaires. Participants received information on common causes of falls, preventive strategies in everyday life, and the importance of maintaining physical activity in later years. Following the intervention, participants showed a noticeable improvement in their understanding of the topics presented. The average knowledge score increased from 62 before the activity to 88 after the intervention. In addition, more participants achieved good and very good knowledge categories in the post-test assessment. These results suggest that combining health education with practical exercise demonstrations can be an effective approach to increasing awareness of fall prevention and encouraging active aging among older adults.

Abstract

Diabetic foot complications are common complications of diabetes mellitus that can lead to ulcers, infections, amputations, reduced quality of life, and increased healthcare costs. Nurses play an important role in the early detection and prevention of these complications through evidence-based care. However, knowledge and skills related to diabetic foot screening and foot care still need to be strengthened. This community service program aimed to improve nurses’ competencies in the early detection and prevention of diabetic foot complications. The activity was conducted face-to-face at a private hospital, South Tangerang and involved 27 nurses from various clinical units. The program consisted of four sessions covering concepts of diabetes mellitus; diabetic foot screening and early detection; followed by an evaluation. Participants’ knowledge was assessed using a diabetic foot care questionnaire. The results showed that 85.2% of participants had a high level of knowledge after attending the program. Participants also demonstrated a better understanding of foot screening, ulcer prevention, and proper foot care practices. This program effectively improved nurses’ knowledge and may support efforts to prevent diabetic foot complications among patients with diabetes mellitus.

Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy remains a significant public health problem that increases the risk of maternal and fetal complications. Although the prevalence in Jakarta is lower than the national average, anemia among pregnant women remains common in the Menteng Community Health Center, Central Jakarta. This condition is associated with limited knowledge of balanced nutrition, poor adherence to iron supplementation, and inadequate participation in routine antenatal care. This community service activity aimed to improve pregnant women's knowledge and awareness regarding anemia prevention through health education. The program included a baseline survey to assess participants' knowledge and behavior, interactive health education on balanced nutrition, iron supplementation, and regular antenatal care, followed by a post-education evaluation using a questionnaire. The expected outcomes were improved knowledge and positive behavioral changes in maintaining a healthy diet, regularly consuming iron tablets, and attending routine antenatal care. In conclusion, health education is an effective promotive and preventive strategy to enhance anemia prevention among pregnant women.

Abstract

Background: adolescents require accurate reproductive health information to support healthy physical and psychosocial development. However, misconceptions and limited access to age-appropriate education remain common. Situation analysis: students at SMP “X”, South Tangerang, demonstrated varying levels of knowledge regarding puberty, menstruation, nocturnal emissions, personal hygiene, and reproductive health. Problem: inadequate reproductive health literacy may increase adolescents' vulnerability to unhealthy behaviors and misconceptions during puberty. Solution: A school-based community engagement program was conducted using interactive educational strategies, including audiovisual presentations, educational videos, group discussions, and Kahoot based quizzes. The sessions were delivered separately for male and female students to facilitate open discussion of gender-specific topics. Results: A total of 116 students participated in the program. Knowledge improved in both groups, with a mean increase of 37.6% among male students and 38.0% among female students. Female participants also demonstrated a high prevalence of menarche and dysmenorrhea, highlighting the importance of menstrual health education. Conclusion: Interactive, school based reproductive health education effectively improved adolescents' knowledge and engagement. Integrating age-appropriate reproductive health education into routine school health programs may strengthen adolescents' health literacy and promote healthier behaviors.

Abstract

Adolescent anemia remains a major public health concern in many low- and middle-income countries, including Indonesia and the Philippines. Limited awareness, inadequate nutrition knowledge, and poor preventive practices contribute to the high prevalence of anemia among adolescents, particularly girls. Community-based health education is a promising strategy to improve anemia awareness and encourage early prevention. This community service program aimed to improve adolescents' knowledge and awareness of anemia prevention through the ACT (Aware, Check, Treat) – Teen Anemia Can't Wait educational intervention. The program was implemented in the International Collaboration Trip (ICT) 2025. It was conducted at Manila Central University High School, Philippines, involving 38 students. Most participants were 18 years old (44.4%), enrolled in Grade 12 (66.0%), and female (61.1%). Participants actively engaged in all educational activities and demonstrated a good understanding of the topics discussed. During the evaluation, most students answered questions on the causes, symptoms, prevention, and early detection of anemia correctly and confidently, indicating improved knowledge and awareness following the intervention. The ACT (Aware, Check, Treat) program effectively enhanced adolescents' knowledge and awareness of anemia prevention through interactive and skills-based health education. Similar community-based interventions should be expanded through sustained collaboration among schools, healthcare providers, and families to strengthen adolescent anemia prevention.

Abstract

Background: Indonesia remains one of the countries with the highest prevalence of childhood stunting. According to the Indonesian Ministry of Health, the national stunting prevalence declined from 24.4% in 2021 to approximately 21.5% in 2024, reflecting progress in prevention efforts. Despite this improvement, the prevalence remains above the threshold recommended by the World Health Organization (WHO), which considers a stunting prevalence below 20% as the target for effective public health control. These findings highlight the need for sustained and comprehensive interventions to accelerate stunting reduction in Indonesia. Situation analysis: Stunting remains a major public health concern in Indonesia, with a national prevalence of 21.5%, still above the WHO target of <20%. In Central Jakarta, Johar Baru is one of the priority areas for stunting reduction, with a reported 0.36% increase in identified stunting cases following improved child growth monitoring. In addition, 46 children under five at risk of stunting have been identified in Galur Village, within the service area of Johar Baru Community Health Center (Puskesmas Johar Baru). These conditions highlight the need for community-based interventions that strengthen family preparedness, improve nutrition knowledge, and promote healthy practices from the preconception period through the first 1,000 days of life to prevent stunting. Problem: Stunting remains a significant public health concern in Indonesia and requires urgent attention, as its high prevalence is strongly associated with inadequate knowledge and unhealthy behavioral practices among families. Solution: Health education is an effective strategy to improve individuals' knowledge and skills with the aim of promoting positive behavioral change and empowering them to become more independent in achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle. Results: The community education program on preparing stunting-free families effectively improved participants' knowledge. Among the 19 respondents who completed both the pre-test and post-test, the mean knowledge score increased from 5.4 before the intervention to 9.6 after the intervention, with the minimum score increasing from 0 to 8 while the maximum score remained at 10. These findings indicate that health education is an effective strategy for enhancing community knowledge and supporting family preparedness for stunting prevention. Conclusion: The community education program on preparing stunting-free families improved the knowledge and awareness of pregnant women and women of reproductive age regarding the importance of family preparedness for stunting prevention.
