Abstract

Underweight is the most common condition of malnutrition in children aged five years and under and is caused by food intake that does not meet the physiological needs of the body. A lack of food intake can occur due to a lack of energy from staple food sources. Underweight in children under five years old can be caused by various factors, including a lack of knowledge about nutrition and health of parents, especially mothers and the socioeconomic situation of the family is one of the factors that determine the amount of food available in the family so that it also determines the nutritional status of the family. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between maternal nutritional knowledge and the incidence of underweight in toddlers in Bonde Utara Village, Pamboang District, Majene Regency. The type of research used is quantitative research with a cross sectional design and the sampling technique is purposive sampling. The analysis test used was chi-square test. The results showed a significant relationship between maternal nutrition knowledge (p=0.03 <0.05), an intensive nutrition education program is needed to reduce the prevalence of underweight in North Bonde Village.

Abstract

The first 1,000 days of life represent a crucial period for a child's growth and development. Appropriate complementary feeding practices are key to fulfilling the nutritional needs of children aged 6–23 months. This study aimed to explore the complementary feeding patterns of children aged 6–23 months based on the Ministry of Health’s leaflet in the working area of Kapasa Public Health Center. This research employed a descriptive quantitative design using purposive sampling, involving 94 parents of children aged 6–23 months. Data were collected through questionnaires and the Ministry of Health leaflet, then analyzed descriptively using SPSS. Most respondents were housewives aged 20–35 years with low family income. The majority of children had normal nutritional status based on weight-for-age and height-for-age indicators. The findings showed that 72.4% of children met the minimum dietary diversity, 88.3% consumed eggs, fish, or meat (EFM), and 72.4% received appropriate complementary feeding. Dietary diversity and EFM consumption increased with the child’s age. Dietary diversity and the consumption of animal protein play a vital role in meeting children’s nutritional needs. Improvements in complementary feeding practices are still needed, particularly through parental education on food selection in accordance with balanced nutrition guidelines to support the optimal growth and development of children aged 6–23 months.

Abstract

Stunting and anemia are two major nutritional problems that are closely related and affect the growth and development of children. According to SSGI 2022, the prevalence of stunting in Indonesia was 21,6%, while anemia among toddlers reached 38,5% (Riskesdas, 2018). Prevention efforts can be carried out by consuming foods high in protein and heme iron, such as mackerel and chicken liver. This study aimed to determine the acceptability, protein content, and iron (Fe) levels in sausage made from mackerel and chicken liver as an alternative food to prevent stunting and anemia in toddlers. The research used a completely randomized design (CRD) with three sausage formulations: F1 (80% mackerel:20% chicken liver), F2 (70%:30%), and F3 (60%:40%). Acceptability was tested organoleptically by 30 panelists on four attributes: color, aroma, texture, and taste. Protein content was analyzed using the Kjeldahl method, and iron was measured using spectrophotometry. Data were analyzed using the Kruskal Wallis test and continued with the Mann Whitney test. The results showed that Formula F1 had the highest overall preference. Significant differences were found in aroma (p = 0,015) and texture (p = 0,024). Nutritional analysis of F1 showed a protein content of 42% and iron of 1,5 mg/100 g. Mackerel and chicken liver sausage, particularly formula F1, had good acceptability and high nutritional content, making it a potential alternative food to help prevent stunting and anemia in toddlers.

Abstract

Latar Belakang: Anak dengan gagal napas akut ringan sering mengalami penurunan saturasi oksigen (SpO₂) dan kadar hemoglobin, yang dapat memperburuk kondisi klinis jika tidak ditangani secara tepat. Penanganan multidisiplin yang melibatkan keperawatan anak, perawatan kritis, dan intervensi gizi sangat dibutuhkan untuk meningkatkan status klinis anak. Tujuan: Mengetahui efektivitas kombinasi intervensi posisi semi-Fowler dan suplementasi zat besi dalam meningkatkan saturasi oksigen dan kadar hemoglobin pada anak usia 5–12 tahun dengan gagal napas akut ringan. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan desain kuasi-eksperimen pretest-posttest tanpa kelompok kontrol, melibatkan 30 anak yang dirawat di Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). Intervensi yang diberikan meliputi posisi semi-Fowler selama 30 menit dua kali sehari dan pemberian suplementasi zat besi oral selama lima hari. Pengukuran SpO₂ dilakukan menggunakan pulse oximeter, dan kadar hemoglobin diukur melalui pemeriksaan laboratorium. Hasil dan Pembahasan: Terdapat peningkatan signifikan pada saturasi oksigen dari rata-rata 92,6% menjadi 96,3% (p = 0,002) dan kadar hemoglobin dari 10,1 g/dL menjadi 11,5 g/dL (p = 0,004) setelah intervensi. Hasil ini menunjukkan bahwa kombinasi posisi semi-Fowler membantu memperbaiki ventilasi paru, sementara suplementasi zat besi meningkatkan kapasitas pengangkutan oksigen oleh darah. Kesimpulan: Kombinasi intervensi posisi semi-Fowler dan suplementasi zat besi terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan status oksigenasi dan kadar hemoglobin pada anak dengan gagal napas akut ringan. Pendekatan ini direkomendasikan sebagai intervensi keperawatan yang integratif dan aplikatif dalam praktik klinis keperawatan anak.

Abstract

Primipara is a woman who gave birth for the first time and had her first child. Primaripara mothers are usually not ready to play a role in taking care of babies. One of the access to overcome baby care is through health services that are easily accessible to the community with programs to improve maternal knowledge and skills. The purpose of the study was to determine the relationship between MP-ASI feeding behavior by primipara mothers and nutritional status. Research Methods with instruments using questionnaires, total sampling techniques with a total of 39 respondents. The results of the study showed a p-value of >0.005 which means that there was no relationship between the behavior of breastfeeding MP by primipara mothers and the nutritional status of clowns aged 6-24 months in Pambusuang village. The conclusion of this study which includes the relationship of knowledge, attitudes, and actions of MP breastfeeding by primipara mothers to nutritional status where the results of the study have a p-value of >0.005. The results showed that there was no relationship between the behavior of MP breastfeeding by primipara mothers and the nutritional status of clowns aged 6-24 months in Pambusuang village, Polewali Mandar Regency.

Abstract

Adequate nutrition for toddlers is crucial, especially during the First 1000 Days of Life, to support optimal growth and development. Malnutrition in toddlers can lead to issues such as stunting, wasting, and increased disease risk. This study aims to determine the effect of supplementary feeding (PMT) on the nutritional status of undernourished toddlers in the Katumbangan Health Center area. The research used a quantitative method with a pre- experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The population consisted of 42 undernourished toddlers aged 11-59 months, also used as samples through total sampling. Data were collected through anthropometric measurements of weight and height before and after the 30-day PMT intervention. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test to identify differences in nutritional status before and after the intervention. The results showed a significant improvement in nutritional status after PMT, with 47.6% of the toddlers improving from malnourished to normal status. Statistical tests showed a p-value of 0.002, indicating a significant difference. In conclusion, PMT is effective in improving the nutritional status of toddlers, and it is recommended to continue the program to reduce the prevalence of malnutrition in the area.

Abstract

Backround : Underweight is a condition where infants and toddlers are unable to reach their ideal weight. UNICEF in 2020 estimated that 45.4 million children were underweight, while according to SKI 2023, the prevalence of underweight toddlers in West Sulawesi was 23.1% and in Majene district was 23.8%. Objective : This study aims to determine the relationship between maternal knowledge and parenting patterns on the incidence of underweight in toddlers aged 12-59 months in Tallu Banua Village. Method : This study uses a cross-sectional approach, with purposive sampling technique, and a sample size of 94 respondents. Data collection using questionnaires and secondary data sources. Data were analyzed using the chi-square test with a significance value of < 0.05. Result : The research results show that maternal knowledge is mostly in the insufficient category with underweight incidence, with a p-value of 0.000 (p<0.05), while parenting patterns with underweight incidence in Tallu Banua Village have a p-value of 0.448 (p>0.05). Conclusion : The conclusion of this study indicates that there is a significant relationship between maternal knowledge and underweight incidence in children aged 12-59 months in Tallu Banua Village, and there is no significant relationship between maternal parenting patterns and underweight incidence in children aged 12-59 months in Tallu Banua Village.

Abstract

The act of reading food labels is one of the pillars of the Balanced Nutrition Message (BNM) which can support a healthy lifestyle by helping consumers choose the food they consume to casure if is safe for their health. This research aims to determine the relationship between knowledge and the level of compliance with reading food labels for packaged foods among students of the Nutrition Study Program at the University of West Sulawesi. This research uses an observational type of research using a cross sectional design with a population of 380 nutrition study program students. The sample used was 87 nutrition study program students taken using the Probability Sampling technique. Data collection used a questionnaire by using google from and statistical data analysis used the chi-square test. The results of statistical tests show that respondents' knowledge of food labels in the good category (4.6%), in the sufficient category (69.0%) and in the poor category (26.4%). Meanwhile, for the level of compliance, respondents who had the highest level of compliance were in the medium category (85.1%), in the high category (11.5%), and in the low category (3.4%). The data in this study shows that the respondents' knowledge regarding food labels is in the sufficient category and the level of compliance in reading food labels is in the medium category. The conclusion of this study shows that the ρ value ≤ α (0.05), which means there is a relationship between Knowledge and the Level of Compliance with Reading Food Labels for Packaged Foods among Nutrition Study Program Students at West Sulawesi University. Nutrition students are expected to be able to educate the public about the importance of reading food labels on packaged foods before buying certain products, because they can have negative impacts.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the unhealthy food choices of young women due to a lack of knowledge about healthy food choices and the increasing rate of overweight due to food choices. This research aims to determine the effect of nutrition education on increasing knowledge and attitudes towards healthy food choices in young women to prevent overweight with multimedia video learning. The method used is a quantitative design using pre-experimental design with a one group pretest-posttest approach and probability stratified random sampling technique. The research population was 263 female students and the research sample was 96 female students. Knowledge and attitude data were collected using a questionnaire, and analyzed using the Wilcoxon test and paired t-test. The research results showed that there was an increase in the average value of knowledge from 30.10 to 82.60. Meanwhile, the average attitude value was originally 61.43 to 80.48. Based on the analysis test carried out, there is a significant value for knowledge and attitudes, namely 0.000, which means <0.05, it can be concluded that there is a significant influence of providing nutrition education using multimedia video learning on increasing the knowledge and attitudes of young women about healthy food choices to prevent overweight.
