Abstract

Anemia in pregnant women is a condition of low hemoglobin levels in pregnant women which is a common health problem and can affect both the mother and the fetus. One potential non-pharmacological method to overcome anemia is giving date infused water. Dates are rich in iron, vitamin B complex, and vitamin C which support the formation of hemoglobin and iron absorption. This study aims to analyze the effect of giving date infused water on hemoglobin levels in pregnant women. This study used a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. The study population was all pregnant women in the third trimester with anemia at TPMB Mintarsih, S.SiT., Bd in the month of 33 people. The sampling technique was carried out using the total sampling technique. The results of the study showed that giving date palm infused water significantly increased hemoglobin levels in pregnant women with anemia in the third trimester. The Paired Samples Test statistical test produced a p value = 0.003 (p < 0.05), which indicates a significant effect of giving date palm infused water on increasing hemoglobin levels. This study recommends date infused water as a non-pharmacological intervention that can be used to support the health of pregnant women.

Abstract

Malaria is usually spread by the bite of a female Anopheles mosquito that has the disease., which feeds on blood to support egg development. Anopheles mosquitoes are typically active at night. During the blood-feeding process, the mosquito’s saliva containing Plasmodium parasites in the gametocyte stage enters the human body. Within the body, the male and female sexual forms (gametes) of the parasite unite to form a cyst-like sporozoite. These sporozoites then travel to the liver, where they multiply and develop into exoerythrocytic schizonts. Malaria can have negative impacts on pregnant women and their unborn babies. These effects may include maternal and infant death or a range of complications affecting the mother, fetus, and newborn. This research seeks to explore how malaria during pregnancy affects the weight of the placenta and the weight of newborns. A quantitative method with a descriptive approach was used. The study subjects were pregnant women infected with malaria who gave birth at the Sentani Health Center. Among the 12 respondents infected with malaria, all had placental weights of less than 500 grams. Meanwhile, the 20 respondents who were not infected with malaria all had placental weights of 500 grams or more. The Chi-square test for placental weight yielded a p-value of 0.000, indicating a significant effect of malaria infection in pregnant women on placental weight at Sentani Health Center, Jayapura Regency, in 2024

Abstract

This study was motivated by the need for optimal nutrition and the need for good sleep quality in infants to support their growth and development. This study aims to determine the effect of infant massage on nutritional status and sleep quality in infants aged 0-6 months. The research design was a quasi-experimental design with a non-equivalent control group design. The study population was infants aged 0-6 months who had low nutritional status and sleep quality at the Haji Hospital in Surabaya. Based on the table above, it can be interpreted that of the 12 infants who received infant massage in the control group and the experimental group, there was a significant effect with a p-value of 0.004 <α 0.05 on sleep quality. While for the nutritional status of the experimental group, a p-value of 0.003 <α 0.05 was obtained. In this study, it was concluded that there was a significant effect of giving infant massage on the sleep quality of infants aged 0-6 months. The researchers found that the quality of infant sleep had increased, where after the infant massage, the poor quality of infant sleep decreased, from 5 infants (41.7%) to 0 infants (0%). This is also seen in the category of good baby sleep quality, increasing significantly from 2 babies (16.7%) to 12 babies (100%) after baby massage. There is a significant effect of giving baby massage on the nutritional status of babies aged 0–6 months.

Abstract

Based on the 2020 Population Census, Indonesia's maternal mortality rate (MMR) reached 189 per 100,000 live births, ranking third highest in ASEAN. The high MMR is closely related to increased maternal morbidity. Early detection is a key strategy to reduce morbidity, one of which is by using the Modified Early Obstetric Warning System (MEOWS). This tool is effective in predicting morbidity risk and the length of postpartum care. This study is a literature review analyzing the effectiveness of MEOWS in reducing postpartum maternal morbidity. Articles were retrieved from electronic databases including PubMed, Sage Journal, Science Direct, and Proquest using the keywords “postpartum,” “modified early obstetric warning system,” and “maternal morbidity.” Out of 665 articles found, 6 were selected based on inclusion and exclusion criteria. The review results showed that MEOWS is effective in predicting postpartum maternal morbidity, with sensitivity reaching up to 99.3% and specificity of 93.5%.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is one of the leading causes of death in women in Indonesia. Early detection through VIA (Visual Inspection with Acetic Acid) examination is an important step in prevention. However, the level of knowledge and motivation of women of childbearing age towards this examination is still low. Education through booklet media is one of the strategies that can increase understanding and encouragement to do the examination. This study used a quasy experimental method with a non-equivalent control group design approach. The Mann-Whitney test results showed a significant value of p<.001 (<0.05). which means there is a significant difference between the two groups. Education through booklet media has a significant effect on increasing the knowledge and motivation of women in conducting early detection of cervical cancer.

Abstract

Dysmenorrhea pain is a cramp in the lower abdomen that occurs before menstruation or during menstruation. WHO (2017) said that 50% of women in every country experience dysmenorrhea. Treatment of dysmenorrhea consists of pharmacological and non-pharmacological. One of the non-pharmacological treatments is acupressure therapy. This study aims to determine the effect of acupressure therapy on dysmenorrhea pain in female students of SMA Muhammadiyah 7 Surabaya. The type of research used is quantitative, Quasi Experiment One Group Prepost-test research design. The study was conducted in January 2023 at SMA Muhammadiyah 7 Surabaya. The sampling technique used cluster sampling, with a sample size of 29 female students. The results of the study showed that before being given acupressure therapy, the majority of female students experienced moderate dysmenorrhea pain as many as 20 female students (69%) and a minority of severe pain as many as 5 female students (17.2%), after being given acupressure therapy, the pain scale experienced became mild as many as 26 female students (89.7%) and moderate pain as many as 3 female students (10.3%), the results of the data analysis test using paired sample T-test obtained a p-value of 0.000 <0.05, meaning that there is an effect of acupressure therapy on dysmenorrhea pain. Pressing the acupressure points at the taichong point (LV 3) and the sanyinjiao point (SP6) can reduce the sensation of dysmenorrhea pain, by increasing the hormone endorphin. The hormone endorphin is a hormone that can bring a sense of relaxation to the body naturally, which can release pain receptors to the brain.

Abstract

Optimal breast milk production is key to meeting the nutritional needs of infants. However, many breastfeeding mothers still experience obstacles in breast milk production. One of the commonly used traditional interventions is turmeric (Curcuma longa), an herbal plant containing curcumin and has long been used as a natural galactagogue. The purpose of this study was to systematically review the scientific literature on the effect of turmeric on breast milk production. The results of the study indicate that giving turmeric in various forms (extracts, herbal medicines, supplements) has the potential to increase breast milk production through hormonal mechanisms and anti-inflammatory effects. However, further research is still needed with stronger experimental methods to support its use in clinical practice.

Abstract

Emergency airway management is frequently performed by general practitioners in emergency departments (EDs); however, their success rates remain poorly defined. We conducted a systematic review and meta-analysis of PubMed, MEDLINE, and Google Scholar (2015–2025) for studies reporting endotracheal intubation (ETI) or supraglottic airway (SGA) placement by general practitioners or non-specialist residents in the ED. Exclusion criteria were specialist operators and surgical airway procedures. Fifteen studies (31 874 ETI attempts) were analysed qualitatively; five sufficiently homogeneous studies were pooled in a random-effects meta-analysis using first-pass success (FPS) as the effect measure. The pooled FPS for general practitioners was 75 % (95 % CI, 70–80 %; I² = 92 %). Major complications (hypoxaemia, hypotension, aspiration) ranged from 12 % to 49 % and increased significantly with each additional intubation attempt. Simulation studies showed 97 % successful ventilation with SGA placement by novice operators compared with 62 % with ETI. Determinants of success included ≥ 50 prior ETI experiences, use of rapid sequence intubation, video laryngoscopy, senior supervision, adherence to difficult-airway algorithms, and regular simulation training. ETI competency among general practitioners in EDs remains below the international benchmark of ≥ 85 % FPS. Enhanced formal training, wider availability of video laryngoscopes and SGAs, structured supervision protocols, and recurring simulation programmes are recommended to close this skills gap and improve patient safety.

Abstract

Anemia is one of the common health problems affecting adolescent girls, including those in Islamic boarding school (pesantren) environments, which have distinctive lifestyle and learning patterns. Low levels of knowledge and poor adherence to iron supplementation are major contributors to the high prevalence of anemia in this population. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of animation-based education and iron tablet supplementation on improving knowledge and hemoglobin levels among seventh-grade female students at SMP Nurul Jadid. A quasi-experimental design with a pretest-posttest approach without a control group was used, involving 45 students selected from one of five classes through purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of educational sessions using animated videos covering topics on adolescent nutrition, anemia, and the importance of iron tablet consumption, alongside the provision of one iron tablet per week over a six-month period. Data were collected through a knowledge questionnaire and hemoglobin measurements before and after the intervention, and analyzed using a paired t-test. The results showed a significant improvement in both knowledge (p = 0.001) and hemoglobin levels (p = 0.002). Therefore, animation-based education combined with iron tablet supplementation is proven effective in enhancing nutritional and anemia-related knowledge and in increasing hemoglobin levels among adolescent girls.
