Abstract

Anemia is one of the health problems that is still a serious concern in Indonesia, especially in adolescent girls. Adolescent girls are included in the high-risk group of suffering from anemia because they are in a period of rapid growth and begin to experience menstruation, so the need for iron increases. Iron deficiency anemia in adolescents not only has an impact on physical conditions such as fatigue and low immunity, but also has an impact on reducing study concentration, academic achievement, and reproductive health in the future. Adolescent girls who suffer from anemia are at risk of developing anemia during pregnancy and have an impact on the growth and development of the fetus in the womb and have the potential to give birth to babies with stunting or low birth weight (BBLR). This study aims to find out the knowledge about anemia and compliance in consuming blood supplement tablets in adolescent girls in Pariti Village, Sulamu District, Kupang Regency. This study uses a descriptive design with a Cross Sectional approach. The population in this study is 35 adolescent girls with Purposive Sampling technique. Data analysis uses univariate frequency distribution. The results showed that most of the young women had good knowledge of anemia while most of the young women had a low level of adherence in consuming blood-boosting tablets.

Abstract

One of the factors that causes stunting is the history of breastfeeding. Breast milk is the only ideal food that is the best and most perfect for babies to meet the physical and psychological needs of babies who are growing and developing. Exclusive breastfeeding is the provision of pure breast milk without any additional ingredients from the age of 0-6 months. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting at the Weduar Health Center, South Kei Besar District. The research method used was quantitative using a cross-sectional study approach. The sample in this study was 30 toddlers using a total sample. The instruments used were questionnaires for breastfeeding and observation sheets for the nutritional status of toddlers. Bivariate analysis used the chi square test. The results showed that out of 30 toddlers who were not given exclusive breastfeeding, 11 toddlers were given exclusive breastfeeding and 19 toddlers were given exclusive breastfeeding. Bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting (p value 0.0002). The conclusion of this study is that there is a relationship between exclusive breastfeeding and the incidence of stunting in toddlers at the Weduar Health Center, South Kei Besar District.

Abstract

Anemia is a prevalent nutritional problem among adolescent girls, impacting their health and academic performance. One effective and affordable alternative intervention is the use of local iron-rich foods, such as mung bean sprouts (Phaseolus aureus). This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of consuming mung bean sprout salad in increasing hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls with mild anemia. The study population consisted of 150 female students at SMK Unitomo Surabaya. A sample of 30 individuals was selected using purposive sampling. The research design was pre-experimental with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. Respondents received an intervention of 200 grams of mung bean sprout salad per day for 14 days. Hemoglobin levels were measured before and after the intervention using the cyanmethemoglobin method. The results of the paired sample T-test showed a significant increase in hemoglobin levels after the intervention (p < 0.05). These findings indicate that consuming mung bean sprout (Phaseolus aureus) salad is effective in increasing hemoglobin levels and can serve as an alternative intervention to reduce the prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls.

Abstract

Stunting remains a significant public health issue in Indonesia, with long-term impacts on child development. Midwives, as frontline health workers, play a critical role in delivering nutrition and health education to mothers during the crucial 1000 days of life to prevent stunting. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of nutrition and health education provided by midwives in increasing the knowledge of pregnant women and mothers of toddlers to prevent stunting. Methods: A quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach was used involving 30 respondents (15 in the PowerPoint group and 15 in the leaflet group). Data were collected through structured questionnaires and analyzed using paired t-tests. Results: The PowerPoint group showed an average knowledge score increase from 36.7% to 84.9% (+48.2%), while the leaflet group increased from 32.3% to 70.1% (+37.8%). Statistical analysis showed a significant difference in knowledge improvement (p < 0.05), indicating that PowerPoint-based education was more effective than leaflets. Additionally, positive behavioral changes were observed in iron tablet adherence, posyandu attendance, and handwashing practices. Conclusion: Nutrition education delivered by midwives significantly improves maternal knowledge, especially when using audiovisual tools. Integrating such education into antenatal care and community health programs is recommended to enhance stunting prevention efforts.

Abstract

Breastfeeding provides health, psychological, social, and economic benefits for both mothers and babies. However, despite the WHO's global target to increase exclusive breastfeeding coverage, Indonesia has seen a decline. The main obstacles include lack of social support, ongoing education, and low maternal motivation and confidence. Husband support plays a vital role in the mother's psychological well-being and milk ejection reflex. This study aims to examine the relationship between husband support and bounding attachment with smooth breast milk production in postpartum mothers. A cross-sectional study was conducted involving 43 postpartum mothers at Purwodadi Health Center, Malang, using questionnaires and analyzed with Chi-Square and Fisher exact tests. Results showed 77% of mothers received low husband support, 51% had low bounding attachment, and 60% reported smooth milk production. There was a significant relationship between husband support (p=0.003) and bounding attachment (p=0.039) with milk production. In conclusion, strong husband support and good bounding improve breast milk flow.

Abstract

Abstract

Malaria is still one of the health problems in several countries, including Indonesia. Malaria cases in pregnant women in Indonesia in 2019 were around 1,769 cases, the most in Papua Province. Pregnancy with malaria has an effect on low birth weight. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between malaria infection in pregnant women and the incidence of low birth weight (BBLR) at the Harapan Health Center, East Sentani District, Jayapura Regency. This type of research is quantitative with a case control design with a retrospective approach. The population is all pregnant women who live in the working area of the Harapan Health Center with a history of malaria in the last 2 (two) years, namely 2022-2023 with a sample of 77 respondents taken using the total sampling technique  according to the inclusion criteria. Data were obtained using questionnaires. The data was analyzed using the chi-square test (x2) using a significance level of 95%, for the closeness of the relationship was seen using the OR (odd ratio) value. The results of the study were obtained by most (72.7%) pregnant women aged 20-35 years, with secondary education (42.9%), not working (62.3%) with multigravida parity (68.8%), with a pregnancy gap of 2-5 years (53.2%). Most pregnant women are infected with malaria (74%) and give birth to babies with BBLR (54.5%). Bivariate analysis showed that there was a relationship between malaria infection and the incidence of BBLR with a value of p = 0.0000. The results of the OR test found that pregnant women infected with malaria were 12 times more likely to give birth to babies with BBLR.

Abstract

Breast milk is a white liquid produced by a woman's mammary glands and given through the breastfeeding process. Based on an initial survey conducted in the working area of Alusi Community Health Center, out of 10 respondents given a questionnaire, 7 did not provide exclusive breastfeeding, while 3 did. Among them, 4 had low knowledge, 3 had moderate knowledge, and 3 had good knowledge. Additionally, 6 respondents had a negative attitude, while 4 had a positive attitude. The purpose of this study is to determine the relationship between mothers' knowledge and attitudes toward exclusive breastfeeding at the Lumasebu Posyandu. This study employs a correlational analytic research design. The study population consists of all mothers with infants aged 6–24 months at Lumasebu Posyandu from November to December 2024, totaling 30 participants, using a saturated sampling method. The independent variables in this study are knowledge and attitude, while the dependent variable is exclusive breastfeeding. The data used include both primary and secondary data. The study applies the Spearman Rank correlation analysis. The findings show that knowledge has a p-value of 0.008, leading to the rejection of Ho (p < 0.05), indicating a significant relationship between knowledge and exclusive breastfeeding. Attitude has a p-value of 0.005 (< 0.05), meaning there is a significant relationship between mothers' attitudes and exclusive breastfeeding. The independent variable with the highest OR value is attitude, with an OR of 8.224, indicating that attitude is the dominant factor influencing exclusive breastfeeding.

Abstract

This study aims to compare the effectiveness of acupuncture therapy and red ginseng herbal combination in reducing cholesterol levels in hypercholesterolemia patients. A Randomized Controlled Trial design with a two-group pretest-posttest approach was applied, involving 50 respondents randomly divided into acupuncture and herbal groups. The acupuncture points used were ST 36, ST 40, SP 6, and RN 12, while the herbal group received a red ginseng preparation. Wilcoxon test results for the acupuncture group showed a significant reduction in cholesterol levels (p<0.05). Similarly, the herbal group also showed a significant decrease using Paired T-Test (p<0.05). Both acupuncture and herbal therapies effectively reduced cholesterol levels, with acupuncture showing more pronounced results. These findings support non-pharmacological approaches in managing hypercholesterolemia.
