Abstract

This study presents a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of Islamic microfinance literature, aiming to map its intellectual structure, thematic evolution, and global collaboration patterns. Using data extracted from the Scopus database and analyzed with VOSviewer, a total of relevant publications from 2000 to 2024 were examined through keyword co-occurrence, temporal overlay, density visualization, co-authorship networks, and country collaborations. The results reveal that Islamic microfinance, poverty alleviation, and financial inclusion are the central themes, while emerging topics such as Islamic social finance, waqf, zakat, and fintech reflect a shifting research focus toward ethical innovation and digital integration. Temporal analysis shows a gradual evolution from early concerns with institutional structures and Shariah compliance toward contemporary discussions on impact and sustainability. The co-authorship and collaboration maps highlight Malaysia and Indonesia as key contributors, with increasing cross-border partnerships involving both Muslim and non-Muslim-majority countries. Despite the growing body of literature, the field remains fragmented in certain areas, with limited research on behavioral dimensions, governance models, and long-term impact assessment. This study contributes to a deeper understanding of the research landscape and offers strategic directions for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners to advance Islamic microfinance as a tool for inclusive and sustainable development.

Abstract

This paper explores the concept of productive waqf as a sustainable financial instrument within the framework of Islamic Sustainable Development Goals (Islamic SDGs). The literature review analyzes various scholarly works on productive waqf, focusing on its potential to generate income through investment in income-generating ventures, such as real estate and social enterprises. The review identifies key benefits of productive waqf, including its alignment with poverty alleviation, education, healthcare, economic empowerment, and environmental sustainability. Despite its potential, challenges such as legal barriers, governance issues, and public awareness remain significant obstacles. The paper highlights the need for regulatory reforms, professional management, and public education to unlock the full potential of productive waqf. It concludes that with proper reforms, productive waqf can play a pivotal role in achieving sustainable development goals within the Islamic context.

Abstract

This study examines the optimization of Sharia fintech in the development of green bonds and sustainable investments in Indonesia, using a qualitative analysis based on interviews with five key informants from various sectors, including fintech, finance, and regulatory bodies. The findings highlight the significant role of Sharia fintech in promoting sustainable investments, especially in the context of green bonds, by democratizing access to investment opportunities and aligning financial products with ethical, Sharia-compliant principles. However, challenges such as unclear regulatory guidelines and the need for technical expertise in ensuring Sharia compliance were identified. The study also underscores the potential for synergy between Sharia finance and sustainable investment goals, with recommendations including the creation of standardized regulatory frameworks, the promotion of financial literacy, and the use of advanced technologies like blockchain to enhance transparency. The results suggest that while the integration of Sharia fintech with green bonds holds great promise, further collaboration among stakeholders and a clear regulatory approach are essential for its successful implementation.

Abstract

This study investigates the impact of Islamic Microfinance, Waqf, and Zakat on poverty alleviation in Indonesia using quantitative analysis. A sample of 190 participants was surveyed using a Likert scale (1-5), and the data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling-Partial Least Squares (SEM-PLS) to examine the relationships between these variables. The results indicate that all three factors—Islamic Microfinance, Waqf, and Zakat—have a significant positive impact on poverty alleviation. Zakat was found to have the most substantial effect, followed by Waqf and Islamic Microfinance. The findings emphasize the importance of integrating Islamic financial tools in policy frameworks aimed at reducing poverty and promoting social welfare in Indonesia. The study provides valuable insights for policymakers and Islamic financial institutions to enhance their strategies in poverty alleviation programs.

Abstract

This literature review analyzes the performance of the Jakarta Islamic Index (JII) compared to the Composite Stock Price Index (CSPI) in Indonesia, focusing on key factors such as return performance, risk and volatility, market reactions to economic factors, and the role of Shariah compliance. The review highlights that while the JII generally demonstrates lower returns, it offers greater stability, lower volatility, and resilience during economic downturns due to its ethical and Shariah-compliant nature. In contrast, the CSPI, which includes a broader spectrum of sectors, tends to provide higher returns during periods of economic growth but carries higher risk due to exposure to more volatile industries. The JII’s focus on stable and ethical companies makes it an attractive option for risk-averse and socially responsible investors, while the CSPI is more suitable for those seeking higher returns with a higher risk tolerance. The findings suggest that both indices offer distinct advantages depending on investor preferences and market conditions.

Abstract

The Society 5.0 era marks a paradigm shift in the use of technology to address social challenges sustainably. In this context, zakat as an Islamic social financial instrument has undergone a significant transformation. This study aims to analyze the role of technology in optimizing zakat management to improve the social welfare of the community. The research method used is a qualitative study with a descriptive-analytical approach through literature studies and secondary data. The results of the study indicate that digitalization of zakat through online platforms, integrated information systems, and the use of big data and artificial intelligence can improve distribution efficiency, transparency, and accountability. Technology also allows for the personalization of mustahik empowerment programs, so that social interventions can be more targeted. However, this transformation faces various challenges, including community digital literacy, infrastructure limitations, and data security issues. Therefore, collaboration between the government, zakat institutions, and the technology sector is essential to create an inclusive and sustainable digital zakat ecosystem. This study recommends an integrative strategy that combines technological approaches, policies, and sharia values in zakat management to achieve holistic and equitable social development goals in the Society 5.0 era.

Abstract

This study aims to map the development of scientific literature on Islamic law through a bibliographic review approach to 201 articles published between 2012 and 2025. All articles were categorized as final stage articles, written in English, and analyzed in the context of the social sciences (Subject Area: Social Sciences). The focus of the study was on key topics such as Islamic Law, Fiqh, Islamic Jurisprudence, Sharia, Islamic Finance, Maslahah, Maqasid al-Shari'ah, and Shariʿah Compliance. Bibliographic data were obtained from indexed scientific literature and cleaned using OpenRefine software to ensure consistency of information related to titles, authors, affiliations, and keywords. The articles were published in 84 different scholarly journals, all of which were categorized as Open Access, either Gold or Hybrid Open Access, demonstrating the open access to Islamic legal knowledge globally. The analysis showed that the publications came from authors with affiliations spread across different countries, with a total of more than 20 countries. The three countries with the highest contributions to the literature are Indonesia (91 publications), Malaysia (26 publications), and Turkey (14 publications). This indicates the academic dominance of the Southeast Asian and West Asian regions in contemporary Islamic law discourse. The results of the analysis also show that the themes of Islamic Law and Fiqh are the most dominant in the titles of publications, while topics such as Maqasid al-Shari'ah and Shariʿah Compliance, although not yet prominent in frequency, show significant potential in the development of applied studies, especially in the fields of Islamic finance and contemporary legal policy. This study contributes to the mapping of academic trends in Islamic law and identifies publication gaps that can serve as a basis for further research based on a bibliometric approach.

Abstract

Khilafiyah, or differences of opinion in Islam, is an inherent phenomenon in the history of Islamic thought. This study aims to explore the dynamics of khilafiyah and its contributions to enriching the Islamic intellectual tradition. Using a qualitative approach based on literature review, this research examines classical and contemporary sources to identify the causes of differences of opinion, the methodological frameworks of scholars, and the relevance of khilafiyah in addressing modern issues. Findings indicate that khilafiyah not only broadens the intellectual horizons of Muslims but also serves as a crucial foundation for the development of disciplines such as fiqh, usul fiqh, hadith studies, and theology. Amidst the challenges of globalization and pluralism, khilafiyah remains relevant as an adaptive and solution-oriented tool for contextual ijtihad. However, critical awareness is needed to prevent polarization of the ummah due to the misuse of differences. Thus, khilafiyah must be understood as an intellectual heritage that reinforces the values of moderation, tolerance, and diversity within the framework of ummah unity.

Abstract

This study explores the relationship between conservative Islamic thought and the state in Indonesia, tracing its evolution from early Islamic political ideals to contemporary dynamics within the nation-state. Through a qualitative literature-based analysis, the research examines key historical milestones, including the role of Islam in anti-colonial resistance, the Jakarta Charter debate, the Konstituante period, and the post-Reformasi landscape. Drawing on primary scholarly sources, the study highlights how Islamic values—such as justice (‘adl), consultation (shura), and public welfare (maslahah)—have continually interacted with national political developments. While the formal inclusion of syari’ah within the constitution remains contested, Islam’s influence endures through cultural, educational, and institutional channels. The study concludes that a contextualized and inclusive interpretation of Islam offers significant potential for contributing to national unity, ethical governance, and democratic resilience in Indonesia.
