Abstract

This paper examines the practices of Sharia cooperatives in Indonesia through an Islamic law perspective, focusing on their adherence to Sharia principles, the effectiveness of existing legal frameworks, and the operational challenges they face. Utilizing a comprehensive literature review, the study reveals that while Sharia cooperatives aim to provide ethical financial solutions, many struggle with compliance due to inadequate understanding of Islamic finance, regulatory ambiguities, and governance issues. The findings highlight the importance of enhancing regulatory clarity, establishing robust Sharia supervisory bodies, and fostering continuous education among cooperative managers and staff. By addressing these challenges, Sharia cooperatives can better align their practices with Islamic law and contribute to the broader Islamic finance ecosystem in Indonesia.

Abstract

This study explores the challenges and strategies of teachers in madrasahs in the West Java region as they face the digitalization era in Islamic education. Utilizing a qualitative research design, semi-structured interviews were conducted with 15 teachers to gain in-depth insights into their experiences. Thematic analysis, conducted using NVivo software, revealed key challenges such as limited digital literacy, inadequate technological resources, and resistance to change due to traditional pedagogical values. To address these challenges, teachers employed strategies like peer collaboration, informal learning networks, and professional development initiatives. The findings emphasize the need for targeted digital literacy programs, improved technological infrastructure, and cultural shifts in educational practices to support the integration of digital tools in Islamic education. These insights can inform future policies and programs aimed at enhancing the effectiveness of Islamic education in the digital age.

Abstract

This study examines the impact of Islamic ethical farming practices, halal certification, and sustainable goat farming on the economic welfare of goat farmers in rural Indonesia. Using a quantitative approach, data were collected from 90 goat farmers through a structured questionnaire, and the results were analyzed using SPSS version 25. The findings reveal that all three independent variables—Islamic ethical farming practices, halal certification, and sustainable goat farming—positively and significantly influence the economic welfare of goat farmers. Sustainable farming practices had the strongest effect, followed by halal certification and Islamic ethical farming. The study concludes that integrating ethical, religious, and sustainable practices enhances the productivity, marketability, and long-term viability of goat farming operations, thereby improving farmers' economic welfare. These results offer valuable insights for policymakers and practitioners seeking to promote sustainable and ethical agriculture.

Abstract

Sadly, there are still some da'wah activities in Indonesian society that are exclusive, intolerant, and even potentially contrary to the spirit of nationalism. In 2017, the Indonesian Ulema Council issued a da'wah guidebook that was intended to be a moral standard for preachers in Indonesia. This literature review is an effort to find out whether the dimension of sharia mqasid values exists in the formulation of the da'wah orientation of the Indonesian Ulema Council. Normative-philosophical methods are used in this study. The concept of modern sharia maqasid developed by Jasser Auda serves as the basis for the analysis of this research. The results of the study show that the formulation of the da'wah orientation of the Indonesian Ulema Council contains elements of sharia maqasid values. Hifz din and hifz nafs form the personality of religious-humanist Muslims, hifz waton forms the personality of nationalist and pluralist Muslims, and hifz ummah forms the personality of prosperous and harmonious Muslims. This research shows that the value of sharia maqasid can serve as the basis for the values, methods, and paradigms of Islamic da'wah in a multicultural society. This study has not studied the concrete steps taken by the Indonesian Ulema Council to support da'wah activities in Indonesia in accordance with the various da'wah orientations that it has set.

Abstract

This study examines the implementation of Fatwas issued by the National Sharia Council-Indonesian Ulema Council (DSN-MUI) as a foundational regulatory framework for Islamic finance in Indonesia. Through a literature review analysis, the research explores the role of these Fatwas in shaping Sharia-compliant financial practices, their integration into regulatory frameworks, and the challenges associated with their application. Key findings highlight the dual role of DSN-MUI Fatwas as theological and regulatory tools, their contribution to ensuring Sharia compliance, and the need for standardized enforcement mechanisms. Drawing lessons from global practices, this study emphasizes the importance of institutional capacity and collaboration in enhancing the effectiveness of DSN-MUI Fatwas. These insights provide a valuable roadmap for advancing Islamic finance in Indonesia, fostering alignment between religious principles and regulatory frameworks.

Abstract

ESG integration is emerging as a game-changing influence on the world's financial systems with wide-ranging consequences for the Islamic finance industry. This research, therefore, has been designed to reach an objective that presents compatibility, challenges, and opportunities concerning ESG adoption in Islamic finance through a systematic review of 22 peer-reviewed manuscripts indexed in the Scopus database. The findings identify a good coincidence between ESG best practices and Sharia principles, as both witness vital echoes on ethical behavior, social development, and sustainability. Good harmony has been noted, though regulatory disparity, weak frameworks, and lack of awareness stand in the way. Green sukuk and international collaboration are promising pathways for the arising ESG issues. This would provide actionable insights for policymakers and financial institutions so that sustainability and ethical value creation can be encouraged at large, while positioning Islamic finance as a world leader in sustainable finance.

Abstract

The integration of Islamic values into the learning of STEM subjects aims to align modern education with ethical and spiritual principles for holistic learning experiences. This study systematically reviews 25 manuscripts from the Scopus database to analyze curriculum designs, pedagogical strategies, educational outcomes, and challenges in incorporating Islamic values into STEM education. The findings have identified the inculcation of ethical values, contributions of Muslim scholars in history, and project-based learning as some of the effective approaches. Other positive impacts are increased motivation, ethical awareness, and all-round development of students, while resource limitation and teacher preparedness remain some of the major barriers. This study informs educators and policy-makers who might want to consider culturally relevant and ethically anchored STEM education frameworks.

Abstract

Socio-religious conflicts in Indonesia pose significant challenges to social harmony in its diverse communities. This study explores the critical role of ulama (Islamic scholars) in mitigating such conflicts through qualitative analysis involving four prominent ulama. Data were collected via in-depth interviews and analyzed using NVIVO software to identify key themes and strategies. The findings reveal that ulama play a pivotal role in promoting peace and tolerance through preventive religious teachings, mediation in disputes, community engagement, and counter-radicalization efforts. Despite facing challenges such as resistance from radical groups and limited resources, their contributions are instrumental in fostering socio-religious harmony. The study emphasizes the need for institutional support and collaborative efforts to amplify the impact of ulama in conflict resolution. These insights offer valuable implications for policymakers and stakeholders working toward sustainable peace in multicultural societies.

Abstract

This study will focus on the peculiarity of Nusantara Islam amidst the setting of Indonesian multiculturalism by studying the content analytically based on 21 documents indexed by Scopus. For that reason, Islam is seen harmoniously merged within the variances of the Indonesia cultural setting for religious tolerance to meet societal peaceful coexistence. The findings prove Nusantara Islam is inclusive, and flexible, and hence has emerged pivotal in unifying the highly fractionalized populace along unifying bonds of unity over diversity. It struggles for sustainability amidst the growing transnational ideologies, globalization, and digital dissemination of radical discourses. This paper underlines the value of Nusantara Islam as a model of religious moderation and provides recommendations on how to meet contemporary challenges. The research enriches the body of knowledge dealing with the interrelationship between religion and multiculturalism in ways that benefit the global discourses of interfaith harmony and cultural pluralism.
