Abstract

With the war in Afghanistan spanning over 13 years coming to an inconclusive end, the three multiple transition processes (security, political and economic) have begun. Afghan security forces are assuming greater responsibility and leadership in the country along with the formation of a new political setup. Despite gains from the last decade, Afghanistan continues to be challenged by a plethora of problems, and is far from being stable. Afghanistan will continue to present challenges to the international community, its region and its neighboring states, particularly Pakistan. Given its proximity to Afghanistan and its involvement in the war against terrorism (now referred to as the ‘overseas contingency operations’), Pakistan is perhaps the most important regional player that has always been directly affected by events in that country. Although the challenges Afghanistan faces are domestic in nature, they have a direct impact on Pakistan as they, among others, stem from the porous nature of the Pak-Afghan border. Therefore, in such a scenario, a macro-level assessment of security risks that Pakistan may face in the aftermath of the withdrawal is essential. The main objective of the current investigation are to analyze the role of cross border policies in facilitating Pak-Afghan Trade Post- Taliban. Qualitative research methodology adapted to intricate dynamics of Pak-Afghan relations, particularly in the context of security and defense. These methodology included content analysis on refugees, security agreements, trade policies, defense strategies and shed light on the multifaceted aspects of this complex relationship. During study detail explores the historic relations among both countries and how ties up such security issues of post 9/11. Pakistan decided to support the U.S. policy of war on terrorism and this meant Pakistan officially went to war against the Taliban. Pakistan's goal is to see a stable Afghanistan, but if the U.S. would withdraw its forces, elements in Pakistan might once again be tempted to favor the Pashtuns in the governance of Afghanistan.

Abstract

This study aims to examine the effect of ESG disclosure, hedging policy, and cash holdings on firm value. The sampling method employed is purposive sampling, focusing on energy sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange. The sample consists of 11 companies over the period from 2018 to 2023, yielding a total of 60 observations. The data utilized in this research are secondary, obtained from annual reports and sustainability reports of the companies. Data analysis is conducted using panel data regression analysis. The findings indicate that ESG disclosure does not have a significant impact on firm value. This study reveals that many companies in Indonesia have yet to implement sustainability concepts or publicly disclose ESG information. ESG disclosure remains in a developmental stage and has not been widely adopted, thus it is not a primary consideration for investors. Conversely, the hedging policy positively affects firm value, suggesting that companies that implement hedging strategies can enhance their value. Meanwhile, cash holdings do not exhibit a significant influence on firm value.

Abstract

Objective: This study investigates the moderating role of job satisfaction in the relationship between burnout, work-life balance, and lecturer performance in the era of Industrial Revolution 4.0. This methodology/approach uses a quantitative approach with purposive sampling and partial least squares (PLS) analysis. Using a quantitative research design, a cross-sectional survey was conducted to collect data from the university lecturers. Standard questionnaires were used to measure job satisfaction, burnout, work-life balance, and lecturer performance. Data will be collected through an online survey platform with a minimum response rate of 70%, involving 121 random permanent lecturers from various private universities at the Higher Education Service Institution (LLDIKTI) Region IX Sulawesi. Descriptive statistics were used to summarize the data, and inferential statistics were tested using the partial least squares (PLS) hypothesis. Findings – Burnout did not significantly affect lecturer performance, while a higher work-life balance led to increased job satisfaction. Increased burnout reduces lecturer performance, but work-life balance has a direct impact on performance. Higher job satisfaction improves lecturer performance and weakens the negative effects of burnout. Job satisfaction moderates the relationship between work-life balance and lecturer performance. These findings emphasize the importance of managing burnout and promoting work-life balance to improve job satisfaction and performance among lecturers in the context of Industrial Revolution 4.0. This study contributes to the understanding of the complex relationship between these variables and provides insights for developing strategies to support lecturers’ well-being and performance in the face of technological advances and changes in the work environment

Abstract

This study  focus on the WACC method in determining the optimal cost of capital. The cost of capital must be calculated on an after-tax basis, because after-tax cash flow is the most relevant cash flow to fulfill an investment decision. This study aims to calculate the amount of WACC juxtaposed with the amount of ROA in liquors sub-sector companies listed on the IDX in the period 2018 - 2022 (DLTA and MLBI). The results showed the following calculation as follow: DLTA's highest ROA occurred in 2019 at 2,229%, but in the same year the WACC figure showed 4.44%, CAPM 4.46%, Equity/asset 85.10%, while in the period 2018 - 2022 the lowest WACC was in 2021 at 2.75%. And for MLBI, the highest ROA is 4.236% occurred in 2018, with WACC value 4.39%, CAPM 9.36%, and Equity/asset 40.41%. Meanwhile, the lowest WACC calculation occurred in 2020 at 3.23%. Thus it can be concluded that both of the companies have not achieved optimal result, because when the company achieved the highest ROA it was not matched by the lowest WACC in that period.
