Abstract

Chronic renal failure is the deterioration of kidney function, which, over time, will be increasingly damaged and cannot be repaired so that the body fails to maintain metabolic, fluid, and electrolyte balance. Thirst is one of the problems often encountered in patients undergoing hemodialysis with fluid restriction. Thirst is typically responded to by drinking, but patients with renal failure are not allowed to respond the usual way to the thirst experienced. Therefore, thirst management is essential. One thirst management that can be applied to respond to thirst is chewing gum to reduce thirst in chronic renal failure patients undergoing hemodialysis. Hemodialysis patients experience thirst, which causes discomfort and affects quality of life; chewing gum (peppermint) is an intervention that can be used to reduce thirst. This study aimed to determine the effect of chewing gum on thirst in hemodialysis patients. The research design used is a quasi-experiment with a one-group pre-test design. The sampling technique was purposive sampling with a total sample of 35 respondents. The intervention group was given chewing gum. The thirst assessment instrument uses the Thirst Distress Scale (TDS) assessment instrument. Research results: The average thirst before chewing gum (22.34) is severe. After being given the intervention for three days, the patient's thirst decreased to (12.91) mild thirst. Analysis using the Wilcoxon test with a p-value of 0.000 ? < 0.05, where there is a significant effect of chewing gum on thirst in hemodialysis patients at Dr. M Yunus Bengkulu Hospital.

Abstract

Physical and physiological health declined with age. These reduce activity ability. NCDs are also rising in elderly persons. Thus, increasing older adults’ physical activity reduces sedentary mortality and maintains health. The aim of this study is to explore the experience of Thai older adults participating in long-term exercise. A qualitative design was conducted with individual semi-structured interview online using voice calling via the LINE application. Three older adults aged 72-87. Participants explained their experience with their long-term exercise engagement. Data were analyzed using Colaizzi (1978) method. Four themes emerged from the data collection: (1) receiving support from society, (2) obtaining benefits, (3) understanding ageing demand, and (4) Engaging to be a habit. Motivation to exercise influences older adults' regularity. Extrinsic and intrinsic motivation affect exercise involvement. Older adults gain psychologically and physically from exercise. Personality and society also affect exercise motivation. The findings help older people, healthcare professionals, family members, and society understand geriatric exercise motivation to promote and execute exercise programs.

Abstract

Water is a basic need for life, especially for humans who always need water throughout their lives. Humans use water for daily needs such as drinking, bathing, washing, toileting, and so on. After measurements were carried out, the turbidity results were 113 NTU, pH 9; The iron (Fe) content is 4.83 mg/L, manganese (Mn) is 1.75 mg/L, and TDS is 336 ppm. The aim of this research was to determine the decrease in Fe, Mn, pH, turbidity and TDS levels before and after treatment using varying thickness combinations of rice husks and kapok shells of 20 cm, 30 cm, 50 cm. This type of research uses a quasi-experimental method (Quasi Experimental) with a post test design with control group, namely research carried out before and after treatment. Then the difference between the two measurements is looked for and the difference is considered as a result of the treatment. The research results showed that the reduction in Fe, Mn, pH, turbidity and TDS levels occurred very significantly even though the turbidity and TDS did not meet the quality standards required by Minister of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2023.

Abstract

The death rate caused by road traffic accidents in Indonesia is still quite high, where some of these accidents involve trucking vehicles. The aims of this research was to determine the relationship between behavior and the risk of accidents in coal transport truck drivers at PT. X. The type of research used is analytical descriptive with a cross sectional approach. The study population was coal hauling truck drivers working at PT. X with a total sampling of 44 respondents. Based on the results of the study, it was found that most (75.0%) drivers have good knowledge; More than half (54.4%) of drivers are supportive of driving behavior; More than half of drivers (63.6%) have good measures against the risk of workplace accidents in coal truck drivers; And more than half of drivers (59.1%) are at risk of workplace accidents. There was no significant relationship between driver behavior, knowledge, attitudes and actions towards occupational accident risk in coal truck drivers. Insignificant research results cannot reduce the importance of risk control in the company because accidents risk death. To reduce the accident rate among truck drivers, it is necessary to provide facilities to increase intensive education and safety training.
