Abstract

Low Back Pain (LBP) is a musculoskeletal disorder resulting from improper ergonomics. Low back pain is a highly prevalent global health issue that leads to activity limitations and work absenteeism. One occupation with a high ergonomic risk is office work involving the use of computers or laptops. Among office workers at Mining Company X, 96.4% were found to have a moderate ergonomic risk and were classified as requiring corrective action based on the Rapid Entire Body Assessment (REBA) method. In addition, these office workers reported moderate severity of low back pain complaints. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between working posture and low back pain complaints among office workers at Mining Company X. This study employed an observational design with a cross-sectional approach. The respondents consisted of all office workers at Mining Company X, totaling 30 participants. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive analysis for each variable through frequency distribution tables, as well as cross-tabulation and contingency correlation tests to assess the strength of the relationship between variables. The results showed that the majority of workers had hazardous working postures (67%) and experienced moderate low back pain complaints (67%). There was a moderately strong relationship between working posture and low back pain (C = 0.482). It can be concluded that there is a relationship between working posture and low back pain among office workers at Mining Company X.

Abstract

Low back pain (LBP) is a common musculoskeletal disorder that often occurs due to excessive muscle contraction. It may also be caused by heavy workloads and long working hours. Workers across various sectors generally experience LBP and can interfere with daily activities. Understanding preventive measures for LBP is crucial to reduce its occurrence. This community service activity aimed to provide education to workers regarding LBP, including its definition, causes, risk factors, ergonomic working positions, and stretching exercises as preventive strategies. The program was implemented using the Participatory Education Method (PEM) approach. The activities were carried out through poster media, interactive discussions in the form of question-and-answer sessions to identify workers’ problems, and simulations of stretching exercises that can be practiced during work breaks. The results showed a significant increase in workers’ knowledge about LBP. This improvement in understanding is expected to raise workers’ awareness of maintaining ergonomic posture and performing regular stretching exercises, thereby reducing the incidence of LBP in the workplace.

Abstract

Neck pain is a common health problem that often affects workers, especially those who engage in strenuous physical activity or have poor posture habits. Every job carries the risk of accidents or occupational diseases. One example is a non-ergonomic posture or body position during work (not in accordance with the principles of comfort and safety) which can trigger prolonged pain in certain parts of the body. Education from physiotherapy is very useful in helping workers understand the importance of good posture and how to reduce the risk of neck pain. Therefore, the purpose of this study was to measure the effectiveness of physiotherapy education regarding neck pain in improving the posture of workers at the UPTD Agribisnis North Pontianak. The method used in this activity was to provide health promotion counseling regarding physiotherapy education related to neck pain and posture. To measure workers' understanding, a pre-test and a post-test were conducted in the form of questions.

Abstract

Gestational diabetes (GDM) is one of the pregnancy complications characterized by glucose intolerance that first appears during pregnancy. This condition not only increases the risk of complications such as preeclampsia, preterm labor, and macrosomia, but also has long-term effects on both the mother and baby, including a higher risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life. The PKM SADARI GDM Movement (Awareness and Risk Detection of Gestational Diabetes) aims to improve the knowledge and awareness of pregnant women in the community regarding the risks and prevention of gestational diabetes mellitus (GDM), as well as to promote early detection through educational approaches and simple screening. This community service program is carried out through several methods, including interactive education and outreach on GDM, physical activity training using prenatal yoga as a non-pharmacological preventive measure, risk screening using questionnaires and random blood glucose testing, and continuous assistance and monitoring throughout the program. The solutions offered include the provision of easy-to-understand information, early risk detection, and the implementation of a healthy lifestyle that can be independently practiced with the support of local health workers. In conclusion, the SADARI GDM movement serves as an effective and applicable strategy to increase pregnant women's awareness of the importance of GDM prevention through education, early detection, and structured physical activity, and it has the potential to become a sustainable promotive and preventive effort at the community level.

Abstract

Cervical cancer is the uncontrolled growth of cells (cancer) in the cervix. All women are at risk of developing this cancer. However, sexually active women are more likely to be affected. In its early stages, cervical cancer usually does not cause easily recognizable symptoms. The most common symptom is abnormal bleeding, for example, bleeding after sex, outside the menstrual cycle, or after menopause. The benefits and objectives of this outreach program are expected to improve women's knowledge and quality of life regarding cervical cancer prevention. The method used in this program is to provide health education through counseling about cervical cancer and cervical cancer prevention practices such as proper vaginal hygiene. Based on a self-awareness survey, the most common problem identified was a lack of knowledge about cervical cancer and a lack of awareness of early cervical cancer prevention methods. The priority problem was the lack of knowledge among the Sawangan Village community about early cervical cancer detection in women of childbearing age (WUS). To address this, we implemented one effort by conducting outreach on cervical cancer for women of childbearing age (WUS) and providing guidance on proper vaginal hygiene to prevent cervical cancer. After the outreach and practice of cervical cancer prevention, participants had a better understanding of cervical cancer and how to prevent it.

Abstract

Malaria in Indonesia remains a major public health concern in the eastern regions, despite a national decline in prevalence. An analysis of partner data obtained for 2024 indicates that approximately 93% of districts/cities in Indonesia have become malaria-free; however, Papua and West Papua still account for over 60% of national cases. In Papua Province, malaria is classified as highly endemic, with an Annual Parasite Incidence (API) reaching 12.5 per 1,000 population. Pregnant women constitute a vulnerable group due to limited access to antenatal care services and low use of insecticide-treated bed nets. Biak Numfor District is categorized as moderately endemic, with an API of 4.2 per 1,000 population and approximately 1,850 malaria cases throughout 2024, including 210 cases affecting pregnant women. Key risk factors include tropical conditions, population mobility and insufficient health education. Within the service area of Biak Kota Health Center, approximately 280 malaria cases were recorded in 2024, including 35 cases among pregnant women. The objective of this community service activity is to enhance the knowledge of pregnant women and mothers of toddlers within the Biak Kota Health Center’s service area regarding malaria, including its transmission routes, impacts on pregnancy, causes, symptoms, and consequences of malaria during pregnancy (such as anemia, miscarriage, and low birth weight), prevention methods through the use of long-lasting insecticidal nets (LLINs), maintaining environmental cleanliness, and avoiding mosquito bites, as well as the importance of routine blood testing for malaria during antenatal care (ANC) visits. The method employed involved small group discussions using leaflet.
